We would like to express our sincere thanks to all our loyal friends, devoted supporters, energetic volunteers and committed staff in not only making our Gala a successful event but mostly for helping the Unicorn Children’s Foundation change the lives of so many children. Mike and Valeria Rosenbloom

Mission of The Unicorn Children’s Foundation: The Unicorn Children’s Foundation provides leadership, education, and funding of initiatives that inspire and empower children and young adults with neurodiversity; those who think, communicate, and learn differently.

Strategic Vision: We envision a world where all individuals with neurodiversity are respected for their strengths and interests and are provided an opportunity to have access to effective treatment, learn in nonthreatening environments, have a place to call home, obtain and sustain employment, and engage in recreational and community activities that many of us take for granted.

Donor Value Proposition: By impacting dynamic and global systemic change in the diagnosis and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, we will be able to create tax-payers who are fully participating members of the community rather than tax-burdens who are recognized as uniquely talented with their own strengths and interests that, when cultivated, will allow them to lead productive and fulfilled lives.

History: Unicorn Children’s Foundation was founded by Dr. Mark Rosenbloom shortly after his threeyear-old son was diagnosed with a severe communication disorder. Up until that time, he had been told by numerous professionals that his son, who was not yet speaking would “grow out of it”. But, he didn’t. Since its inception in 1994, Unicorn Children’s Foundation key objective has been to provide hope and answers for the families of children who think, communicate, and learn differently. Education, awareness, and research initiatives have been supported to: ■

promote early identification of symptoms associated with diagnoses of ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s, Bipolar, Dyslexia, and other learning disorders;

develop and disseminate worldwide ground-breaking and extensive evaluation and treatment guidelines;

foster communication and collaboration between parents, professionals, and policy makers to promote learning and increased awareness, and;

provide adequate tools and resources to better meet the needs of individuals with neurodiversity

Letter from the Chairs Dear Friends, In the name of the foundation, the committee and most importantly the kids, we welcome you to the 2014 Unicorn Children’s Foundation 14th Annual Gala at the stunning Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. Funny how things work out because as we volunteered to chair this event, it feels we have been “guided” to be here and could not be more honored and yet humbled by this extraordinary experience. As we get more involved, the more we realize how powerful and gifted these kids are, especially because thanks to them we are all joining forces. These young adults are making a difference in the obvious goals, and also in a personal and spiritual sense. Only working for such a noble cause can touch our hearts. These kids have a way of making magic happen every day!!! With our help they will continue to flourish!!! We are convinced that the students of the Unicorn Village Academy will become productive and happy men and women of tomorrow. Between Lily and I, we have had extensive careers in the Latin American entertainment industry, and feel quite at home on stage. We believe in this case, the scenario transcends the stage and places our kids and their particular needs as protagonists tonight ......and continue to do so into the future paving the road for generations to come. Our intent is to simply make a difference and have fun doing it and that’s why we are all here. Please accept our deepest appreciation and gratitude and always be sure that thanks to you our “key to unlocking potential” is always opening new doors!!!! Kind and warm regards always,

Lily Braun Event Chair

Letter from the Program Book Chair Dear Supporters of the Unicorn Children’s Foundation, This is a milestone year for the Unicorn Children's Foundation – as we approach our 20th year helping families and children with learning and communication disorders and a year during which the Foundation accomplished major, spectacular goals. I welcome all of you tonight to what will be a wonderful gala in celebration of the success made possible by all of UCF's supporters. This year marked the opening of the Unicorn Village Academy, a community-based life skills, academic and career high school for those between the ages of 14-22 who have neurodiversity and hidden abilities. This strength-based learning environment on a beautiful campus in Boca Raton is preparing a previouslyunderserved age group with the skills needed to live, work and enjoy life. The Academy's motto – Paratus Pro Vita – indeed makes these teenagers and young adults ready for life. The dream of the Unicorn Village Academy is now a reality, adding to the ongoing programs made possible by Unicorn: • The UCF Mobile Screening Clinics providing free developmental screenings of children and parent referrals • The establishment of a 211 Special Needs Hotline for parents and caregivers to connect with specially trained resource specialists • UCF's ongoing efforts to educate parents and professionals through conferences, literature, and other resources • UCF's sponsorship of "Transitions 2013: High School to Higher Education" a conference held at Lynn University that attracted nearly 1,000 participants and was critical for parents, guidance counselors, principals and headmasters of students with learning differences. Now, time for the fun! This evening's gala will indeed be a Noche Caliente Tropical. Tonight we celebrate all the wonderful people who have helped us reach such important goals and who will help us reach far and beyond for the next two decades and more. This fabulous celebration would not be possible without the extraordinary work of our Gala Chairs, Lily Braun and Andres Garcia Jr. Once again we thank our Honorary Chair, Donald Trump, for making it possible to hold this spectacular night at the landmark Mar-a-Lago. We also must thank the talented and dedicated staff of the Unicorn Children's Foundation, whose hard work not only made tonight possible, but makes possible every single day the vital work we do for children and young adults. And I cannot end without thanking you. Without your continued support, your generous contributions, Unicorn would not be able to point proudly to its accomplishments and its vision for the future. With your support, we will continue to enlighten the lives of those whom we serve, and in doing so, also our own. Sincerely,

Valeria Rosenbloom 3

Letter from the Executive Director “All children have within them the potential to be great. It is our job to create a great world where their potential can flourish” Greenspan

Dear Friends: According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 of every 6 children is diagnosed with some form of neurodevelopmental disorder, such as: Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Asperger’s, Autism, Bipolar, Dyslexia and other learning disorders. Over the course of the next decade, we will witness more than 12 million individuals with neurodiverse needs reaching adulthood in the U.S. alone. The Unicorn Children’s Foundation remains committed to transforming the lives of individuals who learn, communicate, and think differently and have invested over $3,000,000 since our inception in innovative education, awareness, advocacy, and research initiatives. With no identified cause and the number of individuals affected continuing to increase, it is time that we stop viewing these individuals as damaged or disabled and begin to view each person as uniquely capable with talents and interests that can be cultivated into skills that allow them to participate in everyday routines, activities, and places. To make this possible, we need your continued support and the support of the community to create dynamic systemic changes that are capable of accommodating and supporting individuals who are neurologically different so they may live productive and fulfilled lives. Our first action in creating this change is completing construction of Unicorn Village Academy which will open its doors in August 2013 in South Florida. The curriculum at this innovative high school will allow youth who think, communicate and learn differently to develop life-long personal, social, and career skills based on their own strengths, interests, and preferences. In addition, we will continue to invest in programs that educate, enlighten, and make the community aware of the importance of preparing and integrating youth with neurodiversity into the mainstream. For example, our sponsorship of the Lynn University Transitions educational conferences over the past 3 years have assembled nearly 2,000 participants from multiple states and countries as well as subject area experts in the field of neurodiversity to further reinforce the need for systemic changes in our educational institutions. This acceptance of diversity will benefit not only individuals with neurodiversity but the community as a whole. At Unicorn Children’s Foundation, we envision a world where all people, regardless of their neurological makeup, can be fully engaged members of society who are given the opportunity to live independently, obtain and sustain employment, pursue continued academic endeavors, and participate in the communities in which they live. With much appreciation,

Sharon Alexander, M.H.Sc. Executive Director/Director of Programs

Your Support Makes a Difference To date, we have awarded in excess of $3,100,000 to support various initiatives around the world, including: $1,000,000 Endowment to the Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Studies at Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, to promote research on best practice interventions for clinicians, educators, and parents. $1,000,000 in grants for research and education at universities and organizations: York University, Toronto, Canada Angels Reach Developmental Enrichment Centers, Hialeah, Florida University of Maryland Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C. Peter Blum Family YMCA, Boca Raton, Florida Sulam, Jerusalem, Israel Miriam Foundation, Montreal, Canada Over $800,000 to fund the development and construction of Unicorn Village Academy, an innovative high school where youth who think, communicate and learn differently can develop life-long personal, social, and career skills based on their own strengths, interests, and preferences. This safe, non-threatening, and supportive learning environment will provide students with an opportunity to prepare them to live independently, obtain and sustain employment, pursue continued academic endeavors and participate in the communities in which they live. Over $200,000 to fund Unicorn Children's Foundation Mobile Community Developmental Clinics that promote awareness of the early warning signs of developmental, communication, and learning disorders by providing developmental screenings and parent consultations at no charge to families, especially those in traditionally undeserved areas. Currently these clinics are operated in partnership with University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University. Over $50,000 to fund 211 Palm Beach/Treasure Coast Special Needs Hotline, the first call for help, connecting families with available resources and service organizations in the community. Nearly $25,000 in grants to community organizations to promote awareness and education as well as provide opportunities to participate in community activities.

Letter from the Founder Dear Friends: 20 years ago, my son Samuel had just been diagnosed with “autism”. As a new, residency-trained and Board Certified Emergency Physician, I naively thought that I simply had to do my research, speak to a few experts in the field, and an understanding and effective treatment for my son would soon be forthcoming. How wrong I was! I discovered, first hand, the misinformation, the confusion, the financial “gouging” of desperate parents, and the suffering of these children and their families. I also discovered many caring and competent professionals who were equally frustrated that they just did not have the information, or the tools, to provide the effective evaluations and treatments that were so urgently needed. Confused and conflicted, I wanted to help myself better understand these disorders and their best treatments, and communicate this information to those who could most benefit. The seeds of the Unicorn Children’s Foundation began to germinate and this foundation was formally created late in 1994. As I reflect on these early years, I would like to honor those without whom the Unicorn Children’s Foundation would never have existed, or would never have survived past the first vulnerable years. If there were a Unicorn Children’s Foundation “Hall of Fame” these people would be the initial, founding, inductees: 1. Dr. Stanley Greenspan. I experienced the problems. Dr. Greenspan had potential great solutions: an Interdisciplinary Council, Best Practices Guidelines, a yearly scientific conference, a network of competent professionals and a scientific journal, just to name a few. We teamed up and the Unicorn Children’s Foundation was born. 2. Mike Rosenbloom. In 1994, my dad owned Globe Communication Corporation. One of the products he published and sold in supermarket chains was a yearly horoscope calendar. He agreed to also publish a Unicorn Calendar, and donate the proceeds to the new Unicorn Children’s Foundation. This calendar, which included fantastic images of unicorns, and also bullet points on early identification and evaluation, was very successful and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the new foundation to accomplish its initial objectives. 3. Marina Polvay. She was an incredibly talented and energetic 84 year old public relations “hurricane”. It was her bold idea to have a gala fundraiser when the Unicorn calendars were no longer possible because my Dad had sold his company. The first Unicorn gala was to be a fabulous affair – but once committed, it became clear that she could not make it a success. She needed help… 4. Juliette Ezagui. When it looked like this first gala was about to fail, Juliette “rode in on her magic Unicorn” and, with her hard work and talent, made it a success. Then helped make every gala after that a bigger and bigger success. Simply stated, without Stanley, my Dad, Marina, or Juliette – we would not be here tonight, and everything that has been accomplished would not exist, everyone we have helped, and everyone we will help in the future, would still be suffering. As we move into our 20th year of operations, let’s not forget to honor these 4 Unicorn Children’s Foundation’s “Founders”. With greatest respect and appreciation!

Mark Rosenbloom MD, MBA, FACEP Founder, The Unicorn Children’s Foundation 6

Letter from the President Dear Friends: I am pleased to welcome you to another dazzling event benefitting the Unicorn Children’s Foundation. This evening will be another incredible and memorable affair. Your attendance tonight demonstrates not only your generosity, but your commitment to our mission to serve children and families affected by neurodevelopmental and communication disorders. By now most of you should know, the Unicorn Children’s Foundation has been working diligently to create our Unicorn Village Academy, a high-school for 14 – 22 year-old special needs children that fosters social, emotional, and academic student development. We are thrilled to inform you we now have a home and anticipate opening the program for the 2013-2014 school year. Research now shows that 1 in 3 young adults with autism have no paid job experience, college or technical schooling nearly seven years after high school graduation. These numbers are worse than for those with other disabilities including those who are mentally disabled. With roughly half a million autistic kids reaching adulthood in the next decade, this is an issue the community urgently needs to address. Our individualized program will provide academic instruction and on-the-job training. In addition, our expertise will facilitate the requisite social cues and skills needed to assist these students in obtaining employment. With your unwavering support, the Foundation has strived to meet the growing needs of individuals with neurodiverse challenges. For the last three years, we have partnered with Lynn University to produce their Transitions Conference attended by over 700 professionals, parents, and students from all over the world. This meeting provides invaluable information to educate participants on topics from advocacy to transition through college and adulthood. We invite you to share in our dream to provide a safe haven for these children to grow and progress, and ultimately, find a place in our community to live and work. Our Unicorn Village Academy will provide individuals with the tools to change their lives, explore their dreams and achieve their own goals. We offer these students the opportunity to engage in their community and help them maximize their true potential to lead productive and fulfilling lives. I would like to thank our dedicated board and our devoted staff for all their hard work and effort. I hope you enjoy this special evening. Thank you again for your support and generosity. With sincere appreciation,

Rafael C. Cabrera
