Research and innovation make change happen
The University of Bergamo counts more than about a thousand researchers (including Phd students and research fellows) involved in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research focused on innovation.
8 Departments and 6 Inter-departmental Research centers plus one interuniversity center cover a large variety of fields: engineering sciences, economics and management, social sciences and humanities.
The University of Bergamo considers research as an important driver of change and innovation for the social, economic and cultural development of the society, starting from the territory in which it is located.
The Doctoral School
Established in 2013, the Doctoral School counts more than 300 faculty members (both national and international) and has taught hundreds of PhD students since its foundation.
The School fosters a vibrant research community, organises interdisciplinary courses and international networking. It supports dynamic cooperation with industry, private companies and
the public sector to plan doctoral research projects on topics of common interest, also relying on direct funding of scholarships and activating Executive Doctorates.

Admittance requires a Master’s degree or a foreign equivalent, besides qualifications in the areas specified in each Program application call.
PhD students are encouraged to spend a research period abroad (max. non-continuous twelve months).
The School offers administrative support to the PhD students from admission to the degree award.
Regular Duration: 3 A.Y. for all the programs, except for Economics (4 A.Y.).
