Due to the new educational landscape implemented in the country, Bicol University (BU) will undergo curricular revision in all its offered courses aligned with the K to 12 program set for incoming freshmen in 2018. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Helen Llenaresas said that the curricular revision would be competency-based and outcome-based education in accordance with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) memorandum orders.
“Well, now we are sure that we’re at par with other countries or other universities in the Philippines and also in Asia at least in the ASEAN countries,” she added. Last September, the university conducted a special academic council for the curricular revision of different courses in the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), College of Nursing, College of Science (CS), and College of Business, Economics and Management (CBEM). In CAL, the curricu-
lum of Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Speech and Theater was proposed to be renamed into Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPeA) with 149 units from 140. Meanwhile, BA in Journalism will now have 158 units from 146, BA in Broadcasting, from 155 to 161 units; and AB English Program which will become AB English Language, from 140 to 149 units. CHED declares BU as model HEI Sheila Mae Sajuela and Jasmin Salvacion
Proving its status as a world-class institution, Bicol University (BU) was hailed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as one of the model Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines. According to Christian E. Rivero, Education Supervisor II of CHED, as a model university, BU will serve as the host for the conduct of University Dynamics
Laboratory (UDL) under the Philippine Higher Education System (Phil-HECS) Executive Development Program (EDP). "BU was hailed as a model university because of its center of excellence in instruction, research, extension, and production," Rivero said.
