Associate AD for Sports Performance 11th Season Michigan State, 1996

Fred Burnett rejoined the North Florida athletic department in August 2019 as the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance.

In his current position, Burnett is responsible for the overall direction, management and supervision of the Athletic Training and Strength & Conditioning units. He serves as head athletic trainer working primarily with the UNF men’s basketball and golf teams.

Burnett’s first stint at UNF was from June 2009 to May 2016 serving as the Head Athletic Trainer. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Student Athlete Performance in 2012 and added sport oversight for Cross Country/Track & Field.

Following his first stint at UNF, served as the Director of Sports Medicine, Athletic Development and Wellness at the Center for Health and Sports Medicine.

Prior to his arrival at UNF, Burnett spent seven seasons as the athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program at The University of Texas as well as three years (1999-2002) as an assistant athletic trainer at Auburn University.

While at AU, he managed the Olympic Sports athletic training facility and coordinated the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate student athletic trainers. He began his career in sports medicine serving four years as a student athletic trainer at Michigan State, assisting in the medical care of student athletes for football, men’s basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s golf.

At MSU, he had direct responsibility for the daily medical care for men’s track and field and cross country in 1995 and men’s soccer in the fall of 1996 Burnett’s career also included a three-month internship with the Philadelphia Eagles in the summer of 1996. He was the athletic trainer for USA Archery during the Summer 2007 Outdoor Archery World Championships in Leipzig, Germany, and served as the athletic trainer for USA Archery assisting in the team’s preparation for the 2008 Olympics at World Cup events held in both France and Turkey.

A native of Centreville, Mich., Burnett earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and exercise science from Michigan State in December of 1996 and completed his master of education degree in administration of higher education from Auburn in June of 1999.

In addition, he is a nationally certified athletic trainer (ATC) Burnett is married to the former Courtney Lisgaris and the couple have two children -- a son, Liam, and daughter, Audrey.
