Bobby Kennen is a veteran voice on the UNF coaching bench owning over two decades of collegiate coaching experience including nearly 20 years at the Division I level and more than a decade and a half in the ASUN.

Kennen was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the Ospreys in August of 2012, after joining the staff as the first hire for head coach Matthew Driscoll in 2009. He is involved in every aspect of the UNF program and is the team’s recruiting coordinator. He has responsiblities for on-court coaching, video breakdown, opponent scouting, team academic progress, skill development and compliance.

Prior to the start of the 2010-11 season. Kennen was rated No. 2 on a list of ASUN assistant coaches as selected by the league’s head coaches.

He has plenty of familiarity with the ASUN Conference after serving as an assistant coach at both Jacksonville and former league member, Campbell.

Kennen served on Hugh Durham’s coaching staff at Jacksonville for five years before making the move to Campbell as the squad’s top assistant for four years. While he was with the Camels, he helped turn around a team that won only two games during the 2004-05 season to one that finished 11-9 in conference play in 2008-09 and won 14 games overall for the second year in a row.

During his time at Campbell, the Camels set or tied 33 school records, including the most points in an Atlantic Sun Conference game in school history and the largest margin of victory on the road. In 2006-07, Campbell posted the program’s highest season wins total (14) since the 1995-96 club finished 17-11. The Camels also set a school single-year record with 12 victories at Carter Gym. CU fans responded by filling the 54-year-old facility to 95 percent of its capacity, including 10 sellouts over the last two seasons.

Kennen’s career has also included assistant coaching stops at Wichita State (1999-2000) and Central Florida Community College (1998-99). He served as an assistant coach and head coach in the high school ranks after playing collegiately at Palm Beach Atlantic where he earned bachelor degrees in biology and physical education in 1993. He then went on to earn his master’s degree in educational leadership from Florida in 1998.

Kennen has also earned the respect of fellow coaches around the country. In 2002, he was appointed to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Assistant Coaches Committee, which serves all assistant coaches with their needs and concerns related to the profession.

At Jacksonville, Kennen was involved in all facets of the Dolphin program. In addition to working with the JU guards, he coordinated opponent scouting, monitored the team’s academic progress and planned all team travel. Kennen also conducted individual player workouts in the off-season and earned a reputation as a tireless recruiter.

In his five years at Jacksonville, Kennen had the opportunity to work under one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history. Upon his retirement in March of 2005, Coach Durham ranked eighth among active Division I coaches with 633 career wins and was the 25th winningest Division I coach in the history of college basketball.

Prior to joining Durham’s staff at JU, Kennen spent one season at Wichita State where he was in charge of the development of the perimeter players and served as the Shockers’ recruiting coordinator. Kennen’s first recruiting class at Wichita State ranked first in the MVC and 62nd nationally in 1999.

Before joining the coaching staff at Wichita State, Kennen spent 1998-99 as an assistant coach at Central Florida Community College after three seasons (199598) as head coach at Williston High School in Williston, Fla.

At Williston, he led the Red Devils to three straight Suwannee Conference Championships, earning Coachof-the-Year honors each season. In 1995-96, Williston won a school-record 18 games en route to the conference title.

Kennen began his coaching career as an assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Santaluces High School in Lantana, Fla., where he helped lead the Chiefs to the 1993-94 sub-regional championship.

As a player, Kennen was a four-year starter at guard at Palm Beach Atlantic College from 1989-93, earning PBAC Athlete-of-the-Year honors in 1993, and was a four-time academic all-conference honoree.

The Ocala, Fla., native also served as team captain for three years and finished his career as the school’s alltime single-game (20), single-season (294) and career (918) assists leader. Kennen graduated Cum Laude with B.S. degrees in biology and physical education from Palm Beach in 1993, and earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Florida in 1998.

Kennen, who was born in Lakewood, N.J., has a son, Trey, and a daughter, Regan, who played collegiate volleyball at Coker.
