harles C. Mann, an acclaimed author specializing in scientific non-fiction, traveled to UNCW on March 27th to discuss his book 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created. The UNCW Honors College, fascinated by Mann’s A Friend of Honors.............9 Award Winners...................9 contribution to the knowledge of this era of history, offered an Honors seminar taught by Dr. Scott Simmons entitled “1491: New World Theories on Mesoamerica.” Mann’s previous novel, 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, Honors Athletes...............10 conveys the unrecognized complexities of the native inhabitants of the Americas prior to Europe’s influence. 1493 succeeds in following the effects—both positive and negative—of European inhabitation of the New World.
