THE CREATIVE ALLIANCE PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

JOB ROLE

Uncultured Creatives is seeking a part-time intern to join our studio, offering an opportunity to gain experience in arts administration.

The role may encompass producer and project management, marketing and social media, and/or studio management, depending on the skills and interests of the selected candidate.

ABOUT THE ROLE AND APPLICATION PROCESS

Employer: Uncultured Creatives

Hours: 2 days per week for 47 weeks

Salary: £100.80 per day based on £12.60 an hour (9 AM – 5 PM, with a 30 minute lunch break)

Contract: 1-year fixed-term employment contract

Location: Flexible working, with a collaborative artist studio practice based in Blackburn, Lancashire

References: All offers of employment are subject to receipt of two references These may include a reference from a current or former employer, an educational institution, or a professional who can recommend you for the position.

1. CV outlining your relevant experience (maximum 2 pages, A4)

2. Cover letter (maximum 2 pages, A4) detailing your interest in the role, suitability, and areas for development

3. Diversity Monitoring Form (completed online). This will be stored separately from your application and used anonymously to understand applicant demographics and report to our funders.

4. Two professional referees who can comment on your experience and abilities (e.g., a current/former employer, educational institution, or a professional reference). Referees will only be contacted after you have been successful and accepted a job offer.

ABOUT YOU

Our studio produces artworks, events, exhibitions, and collaborative cultural projects across various contexts. While prior experience working with the arts or arts organisations is not required, the role aims to develop your knowledge of the sector. We seek an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills, an innate ability to organise, a keen eye for detail, and a strong willingness to learn. You should be comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the above, you must:

● Be proficient in basic programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Drive, as well as relevant social media and web-based platforms.

● Be flexible in working remotely when required and in our Blackburn studio under instruction.

● Be willing to occasionally travel to sites where we are commissioned (travel costs covered; additional opportunities for negotiated overtime on certain projects)

● This is a freelance contract allowing flexibility in the delivery of work days as agreed with the directors

● The candidate will be responsible for reporting their income through a self assessment and paying any national insurance and tax however as part of the internship the candidate will receive advice and support and setting up their financial reporting.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER

● The opportunity to learn about all aspects of working with an artist, curator, and producer across a range of commission contexts, including public, private, gallery, participatory, and socially engaged projects.

● Access to a training budget to attend short courses, seminars, and mentoring sessions outside the organization.

● A proportion of the role will allow flexible working with other partners in this program, including Prism Contemporary, The National Festival of Making, The Making Rooms, The Super Slow Way, and the British Textile Biennial This will provide a broader understanding of Blackburn’s creative economy and allow assistance to different partners during peak resource demands.

● Access to The Making Rooms for creative business training and innovation development, with opportunities for training in technology and machinery use.

● A supportive and creative environment where you can develop your own portfolio if you have an artistic, making, or creative practice

ROLE

Your role will be tailored based on your skills and interests, and may include tasks in the following areas:

● Studio oce management and administration: Contract and database management, proofreading and copywriting for marketing and exhibition texts, supporting budget updates, and gallery inventory management.

● Marketing: Managing mail-outs, advertising, listings, promotions, studio contact lists, and press releases.

● Fundraising: Assisting with bid writing and evaluation support for the Directors

● Project management: Assisting the producer in project and event delivery, including contracting, booking hire/equipment and transport, material sourcing, project administration, budgeting, and artist liaison.

● Logistics: Managing supplies, maintaining an inventory, and supporting the transport and storage of artworks.

● Website management: Updating the business website with new projects and media.

● Exhibition installation and curatorial support: Assisting with installations, which may involve heavy lifting and periods of manual work.

● Project development: Research and artistic development support for the Directors.

● Photography: Capturing artworks and documenting events for The Second Act.

As a Creative Alliance Intern, you will receive a training budget and be required to share learning experiences with other Creative Alliance members. This may include making presentations, sharing resources, and creating blog posts. Upon completion, you will be encouraged to act as an ambassador for future programs, with potential for additional paid full-time or part-time opportunities.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE POST HOLDER

Due to the funding associated with this internship, applicants must be EITHER a graduate of a Blackburn with Darwen-based educational institution OR a resident within the Blackburn with Darwen Unitary Authority area.

There are no age restrictions or formal educational requirements for applying. The successful applicant will be contracted for one year.

We specialise in the delivery of complex commissions, including artworks, video, events, digital projects, and exhibitions.
