“Be All You Can Be” is no longer the Army’s internationally-acclaimed and award-winning advertising campaign slogan, but the message still applies – and it applies to students already enrolled in the university. “I want to get the message out that freshman and sophomores are still eligible to join ROTC and compete for scholarships for the remainder of their degree programs,” said Major Troy Thomas, the Professor of Military Science. “We have a number of initiatives that will allow these already-enrolled students to join our program and take advantage of the many scholarship opportunities that are available to them.” Across campus, there seems to be a misperception that stu-

dents already enrolled can’t join ROTC. This may be preventing students who may need scholarship assistance from pursuing a scholarship and a guaranteed job once they graduate and commission as Second Lieutenants in the active duty Army, Army Reserves or Army National Guard. Students who may have civilian opportunities already, or are in majors where jobs are almost guaranteed, can still receive scholarships, with their service obligation met while serving in the Army Reserves or Army National Guard. In addition, students who may need scholarship assistance and a part-time job now, may enlist in the Army Reserves or Colorado Army National Guard and join the Simultaneous Member-

ship Program (SMP). Scholarships, for those who qualify, are paid by the State of Colorado (if Colorado National Guard) or the Army Reserves, in exchange for serving one weekend a month and two weeks each year in the guard or reserves. Students who become contracted scholarship Cadets in the ROTC program receive full tuition, books, and a living allowance, which increases as the Cadet advances through their individual degree programs. Sophomore Cadets will also receive pay for two summers of Cadet Summer Training Camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky, while freshman may only need to attend (story continues on page 8)

Here is another atrocious comment: Friend: I don’t feel very good Paul: “What, you’ve never stood next to a dead guy?” Friend: No. Paul: [laughs] Considering this, YouTube has much to learn. By continuing to put individuals like Paul on a pedestal, they are further perpetuating similar behavior. Yes, Paul may have a mass following, but if his content has the potential to cause harm, YouTube not only has a right, but an obligation in taking action. What message are they sending by allowing ing him an enormous stage to stand on? The fact that the majority of Paul’s fans are from a younger audience should also heighten concern. To YouTube’s credit, however, the website did yank him from Google’s Preferred Program, which marries high end advertisers to revenue stream from his 15 million subscribers.
