Text Response I did have trouble accessing the library off campus until I was told I needed a separate password. The wireless network on campus is slow. As an instructor I use wireless in the classroom for instructional purposes. service requests are slow Wireless is spotty; I don't have access to my website anymore and nobody knows anything about it; the fil space is too little (200 Mb) Decency filters do not belong on a university campus network. Academic freedom for faculty and students is unacceptably compromised. Need Wireless access covering the Lauretta Taylor Building, more file space on T:Drives It would be great to have wireless access all over campus. That would be a big help in classrooms without technology. Wireless is not available in all locations on campus 1. I cannot believe that the entire campus is not fully wireless. It would make things so much easier, both for the students and the professors, if it were. At the very least, EVERY building with classrooms should have wireless access. Oh, and make sure the access is consistent; I taught in Cook a year ago, and could *never* get a wireless signal, despite it being a designated hot-spot. 2. I also do not like that the network (or parts of it, say Banner) will go down at key times (when grades are due, during finals week, during registration, etc.) We need wireless access in the Lauretta Taylor Building. often running slow both on campus and off. Computer terminals in smart classrooms can often be quite slow I would appreciate it if I could access my network files from any networked computer through the my computer icon. Wireless on second floor or Lauretta Taylor, but not on the third floor. Need wireless across campus, on all floors. Need more reliable and more widespread WI FI Statistic Total Responses

Text Response the archival system doesn't really work well. Retrieving emails rarely works as advertised. It's ridiculous that every piece of email I have over one month old is vaulted. I cannot access those emails from off-campus. I've never seen a system work like that before. no access to full outlook Lots of problems sending and receiving materials at times. Four years worth of saved emails were completely lost from my account in 2007. I heartily dislike Outlook's online functioning. I heartily dislike Outlook's storage of older emails, which means I can't access them off campus. The new archive process puts things in archive a bit too soon. I don't like how it works from off campus. Except for that time when it went down for a few days (which should. never. happen. again.) Can't pull up archived emails from off campus--that's a problem to me I especially appreciate the email access to T:Drive documents. often the system does not recognize students' bronco account and sent to their old -email accounts Statistic Total Responses

Text Response Documents/forms are sometimes very difficult to find and I have found on several occasions that pages or forms are out-dated. Department webpages are somewhat unattractive, dull, and limited in the information they provide. So many things are not updated. Even ITTS doesn't keep its site updated. Very difficult to locate things. Nothing ever seems to be removed. dont know how to use collage As a new faculty, I have had difficulty locating certain information, such as where the Cashier's office is located, as well as some policies regarding students. Is just cumbersome and irritating There should be a way to get to each departments website quickly! It is not an easy thing currently. It is not easy to find things quickly; have to use the Search engine The FSU Website is cumbersome and not very intuitive. There are also too many dead links (Ooops! messages) The website is looking much better these days. I am not a fan of the search engine - it does not always provide the most useful results. For instance, if I search for the academic calendar, why is the top result a link to the faculty-staff info page, rather than directly to the web page containing the calendar? We are responsible for so much paperwork...can you make access any more user-friendly? Perhaps under faculty, provide a forms link to all forms in use throughout the university, with brief descriptions of what the forms are for. The departmental website template looks rather dull -- it needs to be redesigned generally okay, but there is some strange navigation (e.g., navigation from the home page to the Astra academic calendar is useless). However, is there anything to be done about the fact that the whole thing is off to the left on screen? the search engine often does not pull up FSU websites which I know are out there I appreciate the newer images and design. I would appreciate it if the search tool worked better, if old pages/information were removed from the site more regularly, and if it was easier to navigage the site (fewer links to get to the needed information). borken links are still often found Needs to stay current Better than previous years but still needs an easier navigation process. Some pages are hard to find and some of the links are corrupted. Overall, it's very good, but I'd like to see more links between related programs and easy-to-find, central links to all curriculum guides. Statistic Total Responses

Text Response N/A I find the on-campus blackboard help more effective than the off-campus help desk. I never use blackboard anymore. I was burned my first semester here - it went down at a crucial time and I lost all the data I had input. Never again... The assitance I have received has been helpful. support for Bb isn't very helpful -- neither on campus nor through the help desk Blackboard is a good tool. However, I have had some issues regarding the Grade Book, and a workorder regarding this issue is still open (i.e. not resolved) more than 2 weeks after I placed it. Students often need help off-hours, which is the time when it is least available. Also, all students need some sort of Blackboard tutorial, so that they can understand the basics about the program. In fact, I think all students need a tutorial about the use of technology *period*. It is surprising to me how many students I come across who do not know how to do things like attach a file, or add page numbers to a document. your help is great but this version of Blackboard is not playing well with me Bill Gibson is great - so this is not about him. Blackboard problems are often put off on someone else and not dealt with. several times they don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. students and me had to call serveral times in order to get problems fixed. If you have other opinions about Blackboard or other Course Management Systems, please comment here:

Text Response N/A People should concentrate on teaching instead of using jazzed up technology. The technology only enables a faster mode of failure. Blackboard has some quirks that are rather annoying. It does not allow me to post pictures and it often reformats the spacing of tests. When copying course material from one course to another, you have to re-modify all tests (such as setting them for two attempts, etc). They are not copied with their settings already in place which then requires more time to set everything. I don't know what the other options are, but why not consider them. I would like to try Moodle All of the functions are not available in Bb. For example In Gradebook I can't get to compute the average even though they have a column option for average. Blackboard is clunky and slow and has both a redundant and a way too fussy interface. Some student have issues with getting appropriate assistance to access Blackboard D2L Blackboard is not especially user friendly, and students have too many difficulties using it. I have heard that 'Desire to Learn" is a useful system. I don't LOVE Blackboard, but it's no worse/better than others. Don't change just for the sake of change. Blackboard works great. Why would we change it, having to learn a new system and do much of our work a second time for a new syster? Statistic Total Responses

If you are dissatisfied, please comment:

Text Response Limits appear to be set on the number of copies we can make this semester. But, faculty did not receive e-mail notification of this change. The printers will charge your account and then not print. You will send a one page document but be charged for two pages. The cost per page varies each time I print!!!! WTF??? They stop working and run out of paper too often. This was one of the worst decisions ever made on this campus. Access if difficult, printers are constantly down, the process if very slow, It is absolutely devestating academic advising. too expensive, plus sometimes I am charged color prices for black and white pages Do not use The printer works great, except when it doesn't. As a new faculty, I have no way of knowing who to contact when there is a problem (such as when the printer on my floor ran out of ink and was out of service for 5 days). They are either out of paper or not working and you cannot get your copies when you need them. inconvenient; having to get up and leave my office every time I need to get a copy. It is ridiculously expensive! It is a shame! Somewhat inconvenient to share a printer/copier, especially when the nearest one breaks down; I seriously doubt the cost savings due to the high price per copy When there are problems with the printers, the delays are too long for assistance The printer on the 1st floor of LS breaks down, freezes, and jams frequently and no timely help is available. Also, when printers run out of paper, it may be days before the paper is replaced. As a faculty member, it is more helpful to have a computer at my desk. Unlimited copies are a necessity as well for handouts for my classes. Some faculty have used thousands while other make only a few. How is this controlled? I am concerned that the machine on the third floor near Butler 340 is constantly not working. I recommend a new one! Availability of materials are not presently known to me. still can't figure out the actual costs. Goes down often, waiting in line with students to print. Bring back faculty printers It is not true that there is 1 printer to 6 faculty members in Criminal Justice. Also, the one in our office is not color. our main printer is constantly breaking down, cleaning itself, etc. Not the case with those in other locations How is a printing budget established if people print as much as they like and if people cannot use a different code when working on a project for a different department or project? Prefer something closer at hand. I am a program coordinator and have a difficult time getting printing money. The printers often out of order or delayed prints. It is also very expensive (9 cents a page?). I don't know if it is real cost saving other than creating inconviences. Having one's own printer seems more convenient, though I do understand the expense issue. I must leave my office to print. Not only is it inconvenient, but when advising a student, I don't want to leave the student in the office alone while I retrieve the print out to give him/her--something about confidentiality for myself and everyone else. Often unable to access item sent to be printed. Items have ended up in other locations/other buildings or offices. It's a big interruption to have to leave my desk to print something. Also, often the system loses my print job. The system frequently loses the documents I send to the printer. In the past, I have had MY documents being printed by someone else in another part of campus -- CONFIDENTIAL documents. When the printer has a problem, none of us can print locally and we have to go to a printer elsewhere. Statistic Total Responses

Text Response Too much time spent running from desk to printer. What functionality? If there is a problem with the print job, I have to walk all the way back to my office in order to re-print. It's much more convenient to initiate if the printer is nearby. WHAT FUNCTIONALITY? THE F******* THINGS NEVER WORK! Absolutely not! The functionality is worthless with broken or unaccessible machines. It is not just an inconvenience. not true Do not use I did not receive a Banner ID # until the 3rd week of the semester, so for 3 weeks, I had to do all of my photocopying at Kinkos, and wait until I got home to do my printing - a huge inconvenience. Are you kidding? Most of the time the centrilized printers are slower! I bought my own printer and placed in in my office because of the inconvenience and cost of the centralized print service. When there are problems with the printers, the delays are too long for assistance There are some conveniences (e.g. ability to print on any printer on campus from any network computer), but having to print exams etc. in the hall compromises exam security, and the frequent problems with some printers are an inconvenience. I had (still have) a problem with MS programs shutting down when I have sent jobs to the centralized print server. A problem like this makes it a bit tricky to have to rely on a centralized print service. Availability of materials are not presently known to me. I am often charged with making copies that I did not make. I don't know how it happens if our banner numbers are used unless someone has our numbers without our knowledge. The written answer choices aren't the same as the radio button choices. my info. does not work in printer and I like having my own better If it's not to be a bottlececk, wasting my valuable prep and research time, the technology needs to work smoothly nearly all of the time. It does not No...especially when I'm just working with an advisee. I have no idea what functionality I have gained from the centralized print service. I do enjoy the front to back printing and color features. I have had CONFIDENTIAL print jobs end up in other departments. I lose a lot of time printing, and I have to leave my desk with students present -- confidentiality risk. I have to leave students in my office to print documents, and I'm concerned about confidentiality. Statistic Total Responses

Text Response Poorly equipped; usually broken; too few I'm usually satisfied, but, occasionally, I've had difficulty with equipment--and maintenance has not been performed in a timely manner. By the time someone fixes the problem (weeks later), I no longer need the equipment. Dont' use them and don't agree with them. I get better results on student learning with good old chalk and black board. I would like dvd/vcr capability in all smart classrooms. They hardly ever work. I go around and around between software that doesn't match hardware, dirty projector screens with cords so short I have to stand on chairs to pull them down, different configurations in every new classroom I teach in, and no help from the helpdesk. They never know what to tell me! We need more. the phone beside the station doesnt work Not enough available for education department use. We need to be able to take a laptop to any class and connect it to a projector even if we do not have all the expensive equipment I teach in a Smart room, but I wasn't able to take advantage of all the features until I could log into the computer (which couldn't happen until after I got a Banner ID). There are not enough of them and some require the instructor to hook up his own laptop. We need to have 100% smart rooms - any less is counter to our mission. Also, we need to have regular maintenance done to the equipment so there are not so many problems. Need more of them Not enough smart classrooms If they ever work properly, I think they could be nice. In my experience, there is always something wrong with the system. It's seems to be too complicated for some professors. The setup is not right in many in the rooms. It is so easy to trip on the cables! The screens are not where they should be. The computers are slow, some of the projectors are badly maintained, and this shouldn't be a feature: ALL classrooms should have this AS MINIMUM. We need more smart rooms. Some existing smart rooms are poorly designed (projectors facing the wrong direction for the design of the room). Satisfied, but more LS and LSA rooms need to become smart. If LSA 247 were to become a smart classroom, it would be of great benefit to all sections of at least five science courses (ZOOL 110, 210, 230, 350, and 370). Though it would be nice to have more Need more of these Still not enough for eveyone to have one that wants/needs a smart room Not enough for the entire campus I think we need more of them. At the very least, if we had CONSISTENT wireless access across campus, then the demand for a fully wired smart room would diminish somewhat. WE NEED MORE smart classrooms! We need more in the Butler Building. Two rooms are 342 and 325. it's frustrating when equipment doesn't work, no instructions on the equipment, and no one to call after 5:00 Smart Classrooms are good, but I have very limited access to the ones in my building. We need more and we need them to be kept in working order. help desk/ steaff need to be on just prior to 8 AM. when you teach an 8 AM class, and the equipment you planned on using in class in down (usually on a Monday morning), nobody is there to help and get the issues resolved quikc enough for the class time not to have been wasted, If a Smart Classroom is attained, often there are problems with technology (bulbs missing, speakers missing, updates missing that require administrative approval, for example) or the rooms do not function similarly across campus. Also, faculty, especially new faculty, could use specific instructions on how to get and use Smart classrooms on campus. Perhaps could this be added to new faculty orientation? Need more across campus. The equipment is difficult, or impossible, to access in some classrooms, particularly in SBE building. Love them! ALL classrooms should have these capabilities. Text Response almost impossible to get a satisfactory room Occasionally, I do not recieve Smart Classrooms for classes in which I really need the equipment. No one has ever explained what this process is. The system has not worked because everyone wants a smart classroom. i have to ask several times Some faculty seem to always get the rooms they want and others do not I had to beg colleagues to give me their classroom so I can teach my class. There doesn't seem to be rhymn nor reason on the assignment of smartrooms Every semester I ask for a smart classroom and I get a closet. All classrooms assigned are not smart classrooms. Having classrooms every semester scheduled as "TBD" or changed to another location, even BUILDING, when they had a Smart Classroom in a satisfactory location in the past is very frustrating Archaic and ridiculous and if ALL classrooms had a computer and projector as should be standard, it wouldn't be an issue. Need more smart classrooms More Smartrooms are needed or a better scheduling is needed I am not sure that faculty are aware of the process If there is a process, it is not well known There is no rhyme or reason for how and why smart classrooms are assigned ( The current system needs enhancement. Can certain class be scheduled in the same space each semester? I have had problems being placed in a Smart classroom for the past two years without going through stressful requests. It is very difficult to get classes scheduled in smart classes at this time. it seems that the actual scheduling process is random. Class size is not considered. Classes are often scheduled in rooms that are too small. The original request for smart classrooms were by the depts.; it now appears other depts. have priority to the rooms. not enough to go around It is very unpredictable. Every semester, I make clear which classes I need them for, and more than half do not get smart classrooms. If there is a current process to schedule a Smart Classroom, please make that information more available to faculty and staff. Ideally, distribute the procedure via email and post the procedure on the ITTS website. Seems kind of hit or miss. Those of us who teach using smart rooms don't have them and those of us who don't use them have them. That makes for confusion and problems at the beginning of the semester. I specifically request a Smart Classroom and then am assigned a different one. Then I have to make another request. I TEACH freshmen how to use Blackboard, so I need a Smart Classroom. I've had to ask each semester for a Smart Classroom, and sometimes, I'm not scheduled for one. I teach Freshmen how to use Blackboard, among other things, and I need a Smart Classroom. Text Response I have never been helped by them. They always tell me I need to talk to "X" but that they don't know where he is. I can leave a message. the four hour response promise is a lie One call was answered courteously and professionally. The other call was answered with an "sorry, can't help." Filling out a work order and then having to wait and see if and when someone contacts you is no solution to anyone's problems. Soemtimes, they are nice and answer a question... wait, maybe it's Blackboard Help? This is not a complaint, but I wanted to point out that the folks at ITTS are generally quite responsive to reports of problems, particularly so in the last year. 'Posted hours on weekends'??? what does that mean? there is no help on weekends (except Blackboard) needs to start before 8 AM The Campus HelpDesk has been very helpful in the past. most of time the response is quick and effective some work orders I have placed either have not been done at all or done partially. Text Response The computers in Butler 312 do not always function properly--and we don't have enough for a 21 member class. more labs are needed in other locations I'm not familiar with this resource. What computer labs? We need some small computer labs that can be used for exams and labs for Natural Science students My students have complained about inability to access computers, particular at key times (during exam weeks). At least one student has also complained about arbitrary and capricious enforcement of lab usage policies. need to be able to reserve a lab for an entire class (not for entire semester) If possible, update all software across campus at the same time: sometimes students save work in a lab and then cannot open that work in a classroom because all computers had not been updated with the same software. this questions you should ask students We need more computers in more locations available for more hours. Very limited computer access in Butler building, for example. Statistic Total Responses

Text Response Because of the reliance on a Banner ID, new faculty whose paperwork gets held up in HR are at a severe disadvantage in being able to take advantage of resources. It would be useful if guest access/temporary IDs could be issued to help us out. Technology support service has declined over the years. I am not sure if it is due to cut backs but it was better in the past. Again: Are you kidding? I'm in the process of bringing my own computer. I have my computer since summer 2007 and no prospect for an update. Besides, I have to have long fights with half of ITTS to get a simple software upgrade. Get rid of decency filters on ALL computers and entire network. Computer and projector in EVERY classroom. Better coursework management software needed. My office computer is unreliable. It freezes during startup repeatedly, so that to boot it up I have to turn it off and on again at leasst 3x daily, sometimes as much as 6x. Three immediate improvements I suggest: 1) Increase/enhance wireless access across campus (starting with the Lauretta J. Taylor Bldg); 2) find an alternative to Blackboard. Barring this, efforts should be made to dramatically improve access to help for folks experiencing problems with Blackboard; 3) increased bandwidth or whatever it would take to keep the network, Banner, etc. from crashing during vital periods. Although FSU has technology services, I wish the services would function more reliably and consistently across campus. Also, I wish the procedures for requesting and using services were clearly established and posted on the web. how about research? FSU should also provide sufficient support for research activities. We obviously need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I sent in a footprints about the inability to have sound when using a video that is online (I wanted to show a 60 Minutes segment)--there was no sound. There is still no sound and no correspondence about the request. All classrooms should be Smart Classrooms! Statistic Total Responses

Text Response Don't use them. I don't trust anyone with my data and files. My T drive is limited to 500 mb, and I'm not sure if it is possible to increase server space. I can only access it on campus. Need more space on the T: Drives More space is needed plus easy remote accessibility is not very satisfactory I need more space. I would appreciate it if I could access my network files from any computer through the my computer icon. Constantly running out of space on my T: drive. I am just not sure how safe it is for my data. I wish there is a password protection I think entering students need a little more instruction on how to use these drives. I have second semester freshmen who had never heard of them.
