program (BPSS) provides a

expand their understanding of service, connect academic and communitybased experiences and build their

students with similar interests and provided special opportunities

for leadership development and

community engagement. This year,

Program Components The BPSS program offers participants a structure to learn about and practice public service and engagement beyond the scope of traditional volunteerism,

recognizing the value of organizational and policy-based service in addition to direct service. While in the BPSS program, many students are introduced to

social entrepreneurship, community-based research, advocacy and philanthropy as important forms of public service. Special opportunities available to BPSS

participants include: SMART Mentoring program, Philanthropy as a Tool for

Social Change course, North Carolina Outward Bound School scholarships and the Buckley reflection series.

The program is open to all full-time undergraduate students with at least four semesters remaining at Carolina. To complete the program, students build a portfolio which includes the following program components: »» Orientation session
