Introduction The annual Sneaker Ball is one of the Black Alumni Chapter’s signature events, which attracted 300 people last year. For event sponsors, this is a unique opportunity to connect with likeminded individuals and business professionals. The UNC Charlotte Alumni Engagement Office, Black Alumni Chapter, and Truist share similar values. Supporting the UNC Charlotte Black Alumni Chapter Sneaker Ball would directly align with Truist’s stated purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities. 2
Sneaker Ball Attendee Profile The UNC Charlotte Office of Alumni Engagement and the Black Alumni Chapter are proud to have a diverse audience attend Sneaker Ball. Approximately 300 attendees with varied backgrounds came from all over North Carolina in 2023 to attend this signature event. Purpose of Event The Black Alumni Chapter Sneaker Ball began as a way to engage alumni and raise funds for student scholarships. Since its founding, interest has grown, our audience continues to expand, and we strive to make each year even better than the last. The Black Alumni Chapter is committed to making the Sneaker Ball a “party with a purpose.” Their goal is to raise money for the Black Alumni Chapter Scholarship which provides funds to upper-class students with an emphasis on student success and graduation. The Black Alumni Chapter raised more than $8,000 for their scholarship this year. We often hear from our alumni that if not for the generosity of others, an education of UNC Charlotte’s caliber would have been beyond their reach. This academic year, over 28,000 applications were submitted for only 1,932 available scholarships. The Sneaker Ball is just one example of how the Black Alumni Chapter raises funds to increase access and decrease the financial burden that prohibits so many in our community from continuing their education. Furthermore, UNC Charlotte is the 29th largest producer of bachelor’s degrees for African American students in the United States. Graduation rates for African American students at Charlotte rose to 68.5% over the past five years which is over 20% above the national average of 40.6%.

The Black Alumni Chapter’s goal is to make Sneaker Ball the premiere event for Charlotte, engage both the University and the broader Charlotte community, and raise critical funds that will enable UNC Charlotte to be a catalyst for economic mobility, growth, and development for years to come.

Expenses Covered by Sponsorship As we move into year four of Sneaker Ball, our goal is to further enhance and elevate this event to meet both the Black Alumni Chapter’s and Truist’s standards.
