The College of Education prepares educators for the 21st century. Graduates of this program are in high demand, particularly in areas of critical teacher shortage. They are knowledgeable, skilled, collaborative, reflective, and sensitive to the needs of diverse learners. Master of Education, Post Baccalaureate Initial Licensure Pathways
The College of Education offers seven Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs for adults who have earned a bachelor’s degree (i.e., post baccalaureate), may have some professional work experience, and want to obtain teaching credentials. The programs are designed to meet the needs of adult learners, with courses offered in the evenings and/or in blended or online formats. They combine course work and field experiences to prepare candidates for teacher licensure.

Having worked in communications for nearly a decade, Kelly Eury was ready to take the next step in her career. “I had been thinking about graduate school for a number of years,” she said, “but it wasn’t until I looked into Mary Washington that I knew this was the place for me.” UMW’s master’s program in education provides valuable experience writing lesson plans, giving presentations, and more. “The faculty are top-notch and really care about the program and their students,” she said. “Graduates leave UMW confident and fully prepared to lead a classroom.”
