Touching the community

Lower School: During the 2014-2015 school year, the lower school performed many random acts of kindness. With a focus on “paying it forward” in our Wright Way classes, we learned how our actions might cause chain reactions creating that domino effect. During the month of November, we collected cans for the Joseph Project. We were able to help 100 families in our surrounding school neighborhood. K5 visited Westminster Village on November 17th and sang songs from their Thanksgiving program. They were able to “perform” for two sets of residents there. In December, each grade level supported various charities around our community: —K4 - Made ornaments for Wilmer Hall —K5 - Donated toiletry items to the residents of Westminster Village —1st grade - Collected toys to benefit Penelope House —2nd grade - Exceeded the goal in donating over 100 toys / toiletries to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital —3rd grade - Supported Dumas Wesley’s The Joseph Project in feeding and caring for the homeless with cans and toiletries to fill up backpacks —4th grade - Brought in clothing, toiletries, and food for the Government Street Presbyterian Church Coffee Club Christmas Party —5th grade - Collected toys for The Ransom Café Candy Cane Christmas
