New Meta-Analysis Sheds Light on the Effects of Pediatric Obesity Interventions Among Hispanic Youth in the U.S. A new meta-analysis on the effects of pediatric obesity interventions on the weight status and lifestyle behaviors of Hispanic youth in the United States will be
published on February 1st in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Sara St. George, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and Marissa Kobayashi, Ph.D., post-doctoral scholar in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami, served as co-first authors of the paper.

Department of Public Health Sciences Welcomes Dr. Elahe Nezami Elahe Nezami, Ph.D., joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's Department of Public Health Sciences as a new faculty member in December 2021. Dr. Nezami is a Professor on the Educator track in the Division of Health Services Research and Policy. She is dedicated to improving education and training in the public health and global health disciplines and expanding the general population's knowledge of public health and global health issues.

2021 year in review University of Miami major highlights include various research, service and education activities in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Highlights include research on umbilical-cord derived mesenchymal stem cell infusions, a new wastewater study to help predict coronavirus outbreaks, a study to evaluate the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines among the firefighter and first responder populations, the recognition of Dr. Felicia Marie Knaul as a Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and the election of Dr. Guillermo Prado to the prestigious National Academy of Medicine, among others.
