New Statistical Analysis Evaluates Survival for Endometrial Cancer as a Second Primary Malignancy


Heidy Medina, a Ph.D. candidate in epidemiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences, is first author of a paper that evaluates the survival outcomes of patients with endometrial cancer as a second primary malignancy (ESCP).

M.D./M.P.H. Joint Degree Program

Medical Student-Created Community Health Initiative Wraps Up Pilot Phase M.D./M.P.H. students, Lauren Hucko and Margaret Koester, have completed the pilot phase of the Healthier Together: A Group-Based Approach to Weight Management and Lifestyle Change intervention. The students now plan to scale the intervention at other medical schools across the country.

Match Day 2022 Highlights Miller School Students’ Success University of Miami Miller School of Medicine students gathered at the Schoninger Research Quadrangle on Friday, March 18th in celebration of Match Day with family members and friends. EVENTS


Dr. Sara St. George presented her two family-based digital lifestyle interventions with Hispanic families: (1) “Healthy Juntos” (Healthy Together); and (2) “Con Cariño, Abuelita” (With Love, Grandma) during a recent DPHS Division Showcase presentation. Dr. St. George described the process of codesigning the interventions with Hispanic grandparents, parents, and youth, as well as some of the lessons she has learned as a junior investigator entering the health tech field.

Dr. Patricia Moreno presented her research examining health-related quality of life among individuals with cancer with a particular focus on Hispanics/Latinos in the United States during a recent DPHS Division Showcase presentation. Dr. Moreno also provided an overview of her recently-funded NCI Career Development Award (K01) that aims to improve early integration of palliative care among Hispanics/Latinos with metastatic cancer in order to ensure patients live as well as possible following a stage IV diagnosis.
