Visit the Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden – home of the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry.

Grab a Nice Ride and bike around Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun) to check out all the running and biking trails the Cities have to offer.

I found Minnesota Law to be friendlier, more collegial, and more collaborative than other schools I toured. Along with great faculty, wide variety of concentrations and clinical options at Minnesota Law, my positive interactions with student ambassadors and fellow admitted students were huge factors in my decision. I needed Minnesota Law’s strong support system to be successful during my three years of rigorous legal education.

More Ways to Explore the Twin Cities DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS/STONE ARCH BRIDGE WALKING TOUR Both downtown Minneapolis and the Stone Arch Bridge are great places to explore on foot. Get to know the historic Mill City by creating your own walking tour or signing up for a guided tour. If you prefer to go on your own, we suggest:

Minneapolis Named BEST CITY PARK SYSTEM in U.S. for 2020 (Trust for Public Land’s Annual ParkScore Index)

Start on the downtown, western end of the Stone Arch Bridge. Stop at the St. Anthony Falls Visitor Center to learn about the history of this unique stretch of the Mississippi River. Make your way across the iconic Stone Arch Bridge towards the St. Anthony Main area. Wander towards SE Main Street and take a left.

If you need to refuel, stop in at one of the many eateries that line SE Main Street and overlook the river. Aster Café is the perfect spot for a snack & a drink. Make your way back towards downtown on the Hennepin Avenue Bridge. Once you’ve crossed, take a left and you can jump on West River Parkway to take you back to where you started. Go a little further down West River Parkway and check out the Mill City Ruins and Guthrie Theater. Head up to the 2nd floor of the Guthrie to experience a beautiful overlook of the falls on the Endless Bridge. End your walking tour with a sweet Twin Cities original: Izzy’s ice cream, located 2 blocks east of the Guthrie on the corner of 11th Avenue S & S 2nd Street.

Minneapolis is consistently rated as one of the most bike-friendly towns in the US. Don’t believe us? Rent a bike or scooter and explore for yourself. Nice Ride MN bike rental stations are available all over Minneapolis and St. Paul. Four stations are located on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota campus alone. Renting a bike is as easy as buying a single rental, a 3-day pass, or a membership at one of the bike rental stations. Scooter rental is just as easy. Download the app on Lime or Bird and grab your scooter.

From there, you can take city streets to explore anywhere you like, including the U of M area and downtown Minneapolis. For an even more scenic adventure, get on West River Parkway (the bike path that follows the Mississippi River) to jump on the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway System: a series of connected trails that span 50 miles in the Minneapolis area. Clearly marked signs along the Grand Rounds will show you how to reach the South Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, Minnehaha Falls, and other natural attractions.

Uptown is a bustling and artsy area of Minneapolis, featuring the 11-acre Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the Art Car Show, the Uptown Art Fair, and the Walker Art Museum. Uptown is also home to the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes where you can enjoy more than 13 miles of lakeside paths for exercise and relaxation. Uptown is also known for an eclectic mix of dining choices, such as Thai, Japanese, Chinese/ Latin fusion, and Italian, as well as outdoor and rooftop options.

Where Students Live (Continued) NEIGHBORHOOD: Northeast

Northeast has a unique and quirky urban culture with a plethora of art galleries, farmers markets, brew pubs, ethnic restaurants, and family-run businesses.

Another popular neighborhood is Northeast (aka “Nordeast�). The most common types of rental property in NE are homes and duplexes, though a few high-rise apartments have been built recently. Northeast is a great option for students who are looking to live in a more residential area with a community feel plus easy access to great restaurants, shops, Downtown and the Law School. The bus lines running from NE to Downtown and the Law School are very efficient, including a number of express buses which run directly to the University. Although Northeast does feel more residential than Uptown or Downtown, the community has commercial districts stretching along the major corridors of University Avenue, Central Avenue, East Hennepin Avenue, Broadway Avenue, and Stinson and New Brighton Boulevards towards the city limits. Additionally, many rental homes have yards, which can be a big draw for those with dogs or children.

NEIGHBORHOOD: Seven Corners Students live in a number of apartment buildings that are literally across the street from the Law School. Convenience and accessibility are top priorities for those that select to live in this area.

Fortune 500 Companies Minnesota is home to 19 Fortune 500 companies, many which are located in downtown Minneapolis.

NEIGHBORHOOD: Downtown

Downtown is adjacent to the Seven Corners neighborhood (where the Law School is located). Although parts of Downtown are within walking distance to the Law School, there are many buses that connect Downtown to campus in as little as five minutes. Home to many Fortune 500 companies such as Target, U.S. Bancorp, and Xcel Energy, the Downtown neighborhood offers many places to unwind. Here you can find an array of restaurants and bars, anything from award-winning chili and burgers to Thai, vegetarian to pizza, fine-dining to casual.

To beat the winter cold, Downtown features nearly 8 miles of skyway systems to connect almost every building in Downtown. You can leave your apartment, head to the downtown Target, catch a bite to eat at the newest restaurant, and take in a movie without ever stepping foot outside! There are many communities offering affordably priced one and two bedrooms. Downtown also has many condos for rent by owner, which can be great for students looking to live in this vibrant area.

NEIGHBORHOOD: Loring Park The Loring Park neighborhood is on the southwest corner of downtown Minneapolis. It houses a park of the same name which hosts various cultural, social, and political events. The park is surrounded by apartment buildings, many dating from the early 1900s. Recent construction in the area has brought many new town homes and condominiums to the area. Loring Park is locally known for its diverse social environment and as a nexus for many arts and cultural events. Notable buildings in the area include the Walker Art Center, Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis Convention Center, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

NEIGHBORHOOD: Dinkytown Dinkytown is located immediately north of the University’s East Bank campus.

It is a very popular housing option for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Traditional student housing options are plentiful. The Washington Avenue Bridge Bus Circulator provides easy access from the East Bank campus to the Law School’s front door.

NEIGHBORHOOD: North Loop

Several bus lines

as well as the Green Line light rail run from the North Loop to campus, making it easy for students to get to the law school in 15–20 minutes.

The North Loop neighborhood is located west of Hennepin Avenue, near downtown Minneapolis. The area has experienced tremendous growth since the construction of nearby Target Field. Many bars, restaurants, and small retail shops contribute to the vibrancy of the North Loop. The North Loop is popular among young professionals.

Accordingly higher-end apartments with many amenities are the most common housing found in the North Loop. Several bus lines as well as the Green Line light rail run from the North Loop to campus, making it easy for students to get to the Law School in 15–20 minutes.
