NEUROLOGY EXPERTS FOCUSED ON YOU
2022-2023 ACHIEVEMENTS FOR
Welcome Jose G. Romano, M.D.
Welcome to the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. We provide the most advanced neurological care in the region and have contributed to the development of cutting-edge advances in the understanding of neurological disorders and its treatments, through our dedicated Discovery Neuroscience laboratories and our large clinical research initiatives. Additionally, our focus on professional education ranks our residency program in the top neurology training programs and one of the largest in the country.
I am honored to serve as the interim chair and continue our mission to offer excellent clinical care, comprehensive diagnostics, and novel treatments engineered through clinical and translational research. We have forged close interdisciplinary collaborations with neurosurgeons, radiologists, geneticists, and other disciplines as we continue to develop better treatments and prevention for neurological disorders through cutting edge research.
Whether you are a patient, a referring physician, a researcher, or a future resident or fellow, I would like to welcome you and thank you for your continued support.
Tribute Ralph L. Sacco, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Sacco, our highly respected and beloved chair, passed away on January 17, 2023, from a glioblastoma. His leadership helped establish the Department as a hub for research, education, neurological clinical care and brain health and his work was integral to advancements in overall brain health, stroke, and cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment, and helped advance health equity.
While he received many national and international honors (National Academy of Medicine, President of AAN, first neurologist to be President of AHA), his passion was mentorship and seeing those he influenced succeed and thrive. He touched the careers of more than 300 residents and fellows during his 15 years as Chair. While he will never be forgotten, we know he would be proud of our achievements as we continue to transform lives for many of those suffering with Stroke, Headaches, ALS, Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders, Epilepsy, Brain Tumors and other neurological disorders.
