MODULE 1 | The Business of The U: A Live Panel Discussion

MODULE 4 | Leadership in Action

The first module will introduce participants to the University’s core purpose through a conversation with members of senior leadership, moderated by the President of the University. Panelists will share their thoughts on UM’s core purpose of transforming lives through teaching, research, and service, as well as their expectations for University leaders.

Participants will work closely with their supervisors to complete a variety of activities on the job. They will also demonstrate learned skills through networking and peer coaching.

Empower your managers to further develop their professional skills with the Essentials of Leadership program. This program is designed to advance manager development through interactive modules, leadership discussions, individual assessments, experiential learning activities, and coaching.

MODULE 2 | Choosing to Lead and Change as the New Normal

Upon successful completion, participants will have the tools and foundational knowledge to become transformational leaders who build successful teams.

Learning objectives: -- Understand the impact of effective management and leadership in organizations -- Develop an individualized leadership development plan -- Understand change and its impact on productivity -- Build a toolbox to successfully navigate change for themselves and their teams

On the job activities may include: -- Shadowing leaders -- Leading projects -- Facilitating strategic meetings and training sessions -- Managing continuous improvement projects through initiatives that impact the department or organization

Participants will take a deeper look into their personal leadership skills through the completion and evaluation of the Managerial Assessment of Proficiency (MAP). The MAP measures 12 leadership competencies in the areas of managing your job, thinking clearly, building a team, and relating to others.

MODULE 3 | Driving Results Through Others Participants will learn skills to help them become better collaborators, provide more effective feedback, set clearer goals, understand the legal aspects of management, and align their workforce needs to departmental goals. Learning objectives: -- Learn how effective leaders drive superior performance from their teams -- Improve communication strategies and understand the value and purpose of multiple communication methods -- Empower staff through effective delegation, feedback, clear performance and productivity goals, and specific accountability measures -- Initiate and sustain a team environment that maximizes productivity and engagement -- Understand the legal aspects of managing talent, including FLSA and HR policies
