Hello! This is Uma, a fourth year architecture student at Asian school of architecture & design innovations, Vytila, Kochi.
I am currently seeking a position as an architectural intern and would be an honour to have such opportunity in your esteemed organisation as a part of my academic course and to maximise my knowledge in all aspects of architectural design.
I have always been inclined towards sustainability in architecture, green aesthetics and thoughtful use of materials incorporated in design. I believe that design should not only be aesthetic, but also taking in consideration of each individuals.
This portfolio showcases some of my academic works that I had worked in my four years of architecture experience.

AIM OF THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A RESIDENCE FOR A FAMILY CONSISTING OF 4 MEMBERS SATISFYING THEIR REQUIREMENTS AND COMFORT. THEY PREFERS WELL NATURALLY VENTILATED ROOMS. DESIGN SHOULD INCLUDE MORE OPEN SPACES RATHER THAN ENCLOSED SPACES CONSIDERING PRIVACY OF EACH SPACES. RESIDENCE SHOULD BE DESIGNED KEEPING RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE AND USER’S REQUIREMENTS .

SITE ALREADY HAS EXISTING VEGETATION IN TWO OPPOSITE SIDES. THE CENTRE PORTION WITH NO VEGETATION IS DIVIDED INTO BUILDABLE AND UNBUILDABLE AREA.
UNBUILDABE AREA IS CONVERTED INTO GREEN ZONE IN SOUTH WEST AND DRIVEWAY IN NORTH EAST. BUILDABLE AREA DIVIDED INTO SEMI PRIVATE AND PRIVATE ZONE.
FLAT ROOFS WITH BARE CONCRETE CEILING CAN MAKE THE INTERIOR EVEN HOTTER. GREEN ROOF IS A BETTER OPTION TO CONTROL HEAT TRANSFER AND MAKE INTERIOR COOLER.

LIVING ZONE PLACED AT NORTHERN FACE AND SLEEPING ZONE PLACED AT SOUTHERN FACE TO SHADE THE FAMILY LIVING AREA.
CENTRAL SPACE IS CONVERTED INTO AN OPEN COURTYARD TO FACILITATE PROPER CROSS VENTILATION.
LIVING ZONE IS CONFINED TO GROUND FLOOR AS SLEEPING PROVIDES SHADE TO THE LIVING ZONE AT DAY TIME.
A CORIIDOR TO CONNECT SLEEPING AND LIVING ZONE. A PRIVATE LIVING IN THE COURTYARD BESIDES THE CORRIDOR
LIVING ZONE HAS BEEN DIVIDED INTO GUEST ZONE AND SERVICE ZONE. AND CORRIDOR EXTENDED TO TERRACE SPACE.
JALI PROVIDED IN THE NORTH WESTERN SIDE TO MAKE SURE OF PRIVACY TO THE FAMILY LIVING. AT THE SAME TIME IT FACILITATE CROSS VENTILATION.

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A PRIMARY HEALTH CENTER IN THE HEART PART OF CHERANALLOOR CITY. THEY PREFERS WELL NATURALLY VENTILATED ROOMS. DESIGN SHOULD INCLUDE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT INCASE OF ANY OCCURANCE OF DISASTERS. PHC SHOULD BE DESIGNED KEEPING RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE AND BASIC REQUIREMENTS.

AIM OF THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A MULTI PURPOSE HIGHRISE BUILDING BY CHOOSING APPROPRIATE FUNCTIONS TO BE INCORPORATED IN THE URBAN CENTRE CONSIDERING THE SURROUNDING AND ENVIRONMENT EACH FUNCTIONS TO BE WITH APPROPRIATE REASONS IT SHOULD CO-EXIST WITH SURROUNDING.
SITE LOCATION IS NEAR THE HIGHCOURT AT ERNAKULAM. LOCATED NEAR MARINE DRIVE KOCHI.
TOTAL SITE AREA – 3300 SQM

GLASS FAÇADE ON NORTH AND EAST SIDES FOR MAXIMUM LIGHT INTAKE
LIBRARY
It’s a public space. Provides calm atmosphere to the users. Can be used by people of any age. Library is extended by merging up with Coworking spaces acting as a semi – private space.
Public part of library takes up 2 whole floor with an approx. area of 600 sqm.
Coworking space occupies another 2 whole floors with an approx. area of 1000 sqm.
CAFÉ
Public space that can be accessed by outside people as well as the users of the rest building. It covers 70 percentage of ground floor.
HOTEL ROOMS
It’s the private part of the building. For visitors and guests.

Simple rectangular form.
Interiors
Curves also add a sense of movement to a structure. Also reflect a sense of fluidity from the natural surroundings of the building.
