A MESSAGE FROM THE M A DA M E WELCOME M Y L OV E S From my cracked wide open heart, and the depths of my soul. It is a true honour and privilege to be here with you in this moment, in and amongst it- as we tumble, stride and fall, and attempt to make sense of it all. In this issue of Nu Motive, we are celebrating and honouring Cancer Season with a vast array of creative contributions from artists, writers, mystics and guides from around the globe, both far and wide. We are both providing and receiving, as a way to nourish ourselves and each other whole heartedly. Maybe, perhaps, these collaborative pursuits are a part of the way we learn how to carve a new path, a new world, a new wild. Cancer is the embodiment of both motherhood, as well as the eternal child. Learning, navigating, honouring and witnessing our emotions is 100% the name of the game. May this issue shower your soul, moisturize your mind, and be a soothing balm to your body. Take your time. Go slowly. Observe. Revisit. Reflect. Pause. Carve time and space for yourself to be with this digital magazine. As you'll soon find out, it is oh so much more then that. This cancer season, I will be learning how to love myself, from a completely new perspective, and in a brand new way. Thank you for joining me, us, and yourself. You are so welcome here.

This issue is dedicated to my mother, Patricia-Anne Wiley, who just made her cosmic exit from the earthly realm on June 18th, into the Great Beyond.

I wondered, what would it feel like? To walk this Earth, and know that she was no longer grativity bound. I pondered, how would I navigate not being able to hear her voice, through the vibrations of her moving lips. I questioned, is it possible to expand in love, rather then contract - when I would say goodbye for the last time? I was curious, would it be possible to feel her miraculous soul, as it left her human body? And I prayed, that I could fulfill her request, when she asked me if I would walk her home. She came to visit me, just hours after her sacred passage and said. "Look, my daughter. I'm as brave as you are now." 5

have been creating playlists for loved ones (myself included) since cassette tapes were in rotation. I'd cut out pictures out of a magazine and make a collage as the cover, and would always name it something clever. Thoughtful. Cheeky. Evocative. Some things never change, and I'm glad for that, and hope you are too. I had a blast creating this playlist for us, and have come up with some playful suggestions for you to enjoy this playlist to below:

H O W T O E N J O Y T H I S P L AY L I S T 01

IN T H E BAT H

Immerse yourself in the water. Soak. Rinse. Shed. Cleanse. Let your emotions wash over you, no attachment. 02

JOURNALING

Make yourself a comforting beverage, open a fresh sheet of paper, and let your feelings f low. 03

SLOW MOTION MOVEMENTS

With 5 hours of playlist, there's a variety of movements that your body can express. Stretch, shimmy, shake. 04

COOK A NOURISHING MEAL

2 words. Comfort food. 2 more words. Comfort music. 05

TA K E A WA L K IN N AT URE

Move slowly, steadily, and intentionally. Let the sights, sounds, textures, and vibrancy guide you. Deeper along the path, deeper into you. 06

might initially be perceived as cold or distant, perhaps it is because of the very depths of her emotions that she must protect herself with her hard, outer shell. In truth, not everyone deserves to win over her empathy and loving nature. Because of this, it might be a bit difficult at first to break through to her, but if you do… she is known to be the most loyal of them all. It is warned to tread carefully, though, because to betray her is to lose her hard-earned trust forever.

uled by Mother Moon, Cancer is deeply intuitive and highly sentimental. The Moon is the ruler of our feminine energy. She is sof t; she is nur turing. She is tender. She holds the paradox of being both our inner child and our inner mother. It is because of this combination that we are able to experience deep healing ourselves, which allows for us to extend that healing to others, too. She provides to us that inner knowing, allowing for us to listen closely to our heart’s whispers, leading us by way of intuition. It is of no surprise that many born under this sign are known to have healing and psychic powers. Cancer is emotionally intelligent, able to pick up on the energy around her, and she is able to read others well. In her presence, you will feel understood. You will feel seen as she pierces straight through you, shedding light on the core of your true being. It is also because of this, however, that as a Cancer, she must learn to protect her own energy so that she does not mistake the emotions of the collective as the emotions of her own.

In working around the energy of the Moon this Cancer season, the two dates to keep in mind are June 21st and July 5th. On June 21st, the Moon will transit into Cancer, where it will be sitting in its natural sign. Because of this, you can expect for this New Moon to be perhaps a little bit more emotional than it already normally is. Your intuition will be more heightened during this time. Like all New Moons, we will be asked to make space to sit in silence with our own soul. What messages come up during this time? When you are sitting in meditation, take note of the way that your body feels. We often believe that our intuition comes from the spiritual realm, but it can actually be found right there in the physical plane of our own bodies. Being that this date will mark the start of the lunar cycle, it invites us to review and ref lect again on our intentions. Remember that the beauty in working with the lunar cycle is that is allows for us to change and adapt accordingly, rewriting our intentions with each new season in a way that feels most authentic to us. The Moon also rules our unconscious mind, and it is good practice to keep a dream journal to write down your dreams first thing in the morning, as it is during this lucid state that messages often make their way through to us, too. If certain objects or symbols keep popping up, make note of that. It is through the delicate weaving of our subconscious dreams that provides a roadmap to our conscious lives on the Earth plane.

Sure, Cancer can be a bit moody at times, but what do you expect? Like the Moon, she has her phases, waxing and waning… always ever-changing. She is both enigmatic and nostalgic. To understand her is to respect her natural process and to learn to ride her waves. Because, yes, she is a cardinal water sign and while you might see her taking a break from it all, crawling around the shallow shores, it won’t be long before she is diving back into the daring depths of her emotions, seeking out to explore new crevices of her own soul. That is the unique thing about her, she is able to weave herself between the sea and the shore, allowing for her to survive in both the physical and the emotional realm. She is ruled by the heart and to experience her emotions in all of their totality, to her, is to be alive. Is to be free. While she 15

edic Astrology uses the sidereal zodiac and is based on ancient scriptures (the Vedas). The Sanskrit for "cancer" is Karkata, and it is a sign ("rashi") ruled by The Moon, or Chandra. Yoga students might know the word Chandra from the asana posture such as half-moon or “ardha chandrāsana”.

ur relationship with our mothers, and our quality and tone of our foundational learning environment will be summarized by the natal charts. We can gain insight into our core beliefs, relationship with our mothers and the quality and tone of our foundational education environment by studying the following in our charts: •

The fourth house

The placement of Karkata

The placement of Chandra and relationship with that planetary ruler

The angle between Chandra and Karkata

Chandra's Nakshatra

Any outgoing and incoming drishti to the Moon and Karkata

Depending on what's going on with the above, you may be drawn to developing rituals and sacred routines to develop and nurture this region of your life, or you may feel compelled to ignore this. Nothing is wrong with either.

OUR CORE BELIEFS Revisiting our Foundational Learning Much of our core beliefs about ourselves and the world are formed during our childhood, by our parents and foundational education. All of this is represented by both the sign Karkata, and by its ruler, Chandra.

Especially with three eclipses this summer, this is a good time to not react, but to simply practice awareness of our f luctuating emotions and rhythms of nature. Re-learn, re-study, re-parent.

As the symbol of the ground, roots, borders, home environment, emotions, mother, burial, and foundational learning, Cancer presents to us the chance to truly dig deep into our earliest education.

Take this time to go back to the basics of your study, namely the yamas and niyamas if you are a yoga student or teacher (and have you read Patanjali’s Eight Limbs yet?). Deborah Adele has a lovely little book [ ht t p s : //w w w.c h a p t e r s . i nd i go.c a /e n- c a / book s/t he-ya ma s-n iya ma s-ex plor i ng-yogas/9780974470641-item.html] about our personal inventory of these jewels.

As the world starts to check their assumptions based on their childhood foundation, let us take this time to re-learn and listen before jumping to new fundamental beliefs.

19

DE VELOPING R I T UA L S A N D P R AC T I C E S What actions and behaviours bring you a sense of reinforcement, safety, and comfort? Developing a personal practice of any kind is a wonderful way to nurture the quality of the flowing and ebbing Moon in our lives, who rules the tides and times of year.

01

GOOD MORNING, SUN

Upon rising, offer a "hello" (namaste) to the Sun. The Sun and Moon are the two luminaries among all of the planetary gods; they complement one another. By letting our mind acknowledge the Sun, we connect to our deeper universal light — it's also a great way to incorporate daily gratitude into your life, which is a wonderful remedy for anxiety and depression.

02

A LTA R S PAC E

If you don't have an altar space in your home, simply begin by turning a shelf or tabletop or dresser into a little area for devotion. You can think of the altar in terms of a place of personal inspiration or an area of your home where you would like to invite a more subtle self-loving practice to blossom. On the altar or mantle, place only a very carefully selected collection of items that carry significance, such as medallions, gems, statues, images, f lowers, candles, and so on. Including white, pearl, or silver items will be of special benefit for the Moon.

03

FIVE ELEMENTS

Each day, offer a fresh variety of each of the five elements: earth (twigs, rocks), fire (a candle), water (a crystal or porcelain glass), air (incense), and ether or space (a f lower petal for the gods). By inviting a daily practice of loving devotion and offering, we ease the burden of the busy mind and self-centered mentality, and open to the expansiveness of mystery. Try to choose f lower petals that have fallen to the ground already.

03

Simply notice the night sky. Maintain a connection to the sky above and around you, and to all of existence beyond this planet.

04

Chant "Om Chandraya Namaha" 108 times (or 11 times if you’re in a hurry!), using a mala or simply saying it to yourself in your head. Perhaps you start out by saying the mantra out loud, then take it more and more internal into subtle layers of mind until you are only saying it in your head.

05

R OOT CH A K R A SEL F- LOV E MED I TATION

Lay comfortably or be seated easily. As you inhale, imagine breathing in a bright white light of pure non-judging unconditionally-loving energy. This energy is part of you and is in the world around you. Your inhalation brings this pure energy into you. The exhale pulls this bright incandescent shakti energy down into your hips and pelvis and then out through your legs into the roots, the earth, home, the shores of our mind. As you breathe, let each breathe bring new waves of this light repeatedly through your hips and pelvis, breathing new life and energy into your root chakra and foundation of self-awareness, security of self-love.

“Sacred mountain, centre of the universe.” ~ Swami Lalitananda 06

JOURNAL TO IDENTIFY FEELINGS

Do you know what your feelings are when you feel them? Are you able to label them, or do they feel like one unending blob of grossness? Taking some time to explore with curiosity what the labels of our feelings are enables us to better move through them when we feel overwhelmed.

21

MOVEMENTS 01

M O U N TA I N P O S E (TADASAN A)

The roots of a mountain are solid, immovable. Swami Lalitananda in Vancouver wrote about her experience practicing Tadasana on a busy intersection in downtown Vancouver one day. She stood on the sidewalk and simply witnessed the comings and goings of the world, as people walked by, looked at her, didn’t look at her, did their own things. She noticed the nervousness in some, the joy in others, the fear in herself that she was doing something strange or that she would be harassed. As we stand, we do not perfect standing. We simply stand, in full awareness of the body, mind, and emotions, from one breath to the next; the never-ending f low of feelings. The world is there, in front of us, and we simply see it, and we notice that it is also within us, in our receptive awareness of our mind’s impressions.

“You can find everything you need to know about yourself through this one pose.” ~ Swami Radha 02

TREE POSE (VRIKSHASANA)

In the comfort of your own home, practice tree pose with exploratory curiosity: “how does it feel to bring my bent knee further back in order to open my root pelvis more? How does it feel to push my top foot into my standing leg to activate the posture — am I still breathing deeply with a soft relaxed face?” Rather than raising your arms overhead, how does it feel to keep your hands together in front of your heart? What about just a few millimetres apart? How many slow deep breaths can you take on one foot, and what happened in your mind’s eye during the experience?

02

ROOT CHAKRA ENLIVENING FLOW

Explore a f low of postures to awaken our roots, taking three full breaths each posture, using any variation or modification that feels intuitive and suitable for your body as it is today: 1.

Mountain Pose > Tree Pose > Warrior 2 > Extended Side Angle > Revolved Side Angle > Downward Facing Dog // (repeat on second side).

2. Goddess > Triangle (right side) > Half-Moon (right side) > Goddess > Triangle (left side) > Half-Moon (left side) > Tadasana. 3.

Warrior Three > Standing Splits > High Lunge > Lizard > Janu Sirsasana > Half Lord of the Fishes > Purvotanasana > Downward Facing Dog // (repeat other side)

4. Supported Bridge > Shoulderstand (unless unfamiliar or otherwise contraindicated) > Legs up the Wall > Savasana

ancer is home. How you return home to yourself. How you nurture yourself. The mother. The womb. We’ve been confined for months. To our homes, our spaces. To our own vessel. And to the home within ourselves. With Gemini season, we saw more movement. Expansion. Quarantines were lifted. We were able to leave our homes. Socialize. Connect. But the outer world feels different. It feels chaotic. Unfamiliar. New social distancing guidelines. Civil unrest across the globe. We’re all trying to adjust to this new world. To find our place. So Cancer is asking us to return home. To ourselves. To our inner child. To do the inner work. To nurture our own needs. To heal, not only the home within ourselves, but our spaces.

Close your eyes for a moment, and feel into it. Does it feel calm and peaceful, or chaotic and cluttered? As we heal, it ’s so important to have a space that nurtures. That feels good. Balanced. Calm.

The energy of our external space is simply a reflection of our energy within.

So, I’m sharing with you a few tips to create a sacred, healing space.

24

MAKE ROOM In order to manifest, and invite in new, we must first create space. Thoroughly dust, clean, declutter, purge. Look around your home. Take inventory. What can stay, and what needs to go? As you go through your belongings, take time to evaluate why you are keeping items. Notice the attachments. Letting go is painful, but it’s simply creating space for something new. Something magical. Thank your items for all they’ve given you, and release them with love.

BLESS & CLEANSE Now that you have created room, imagine that you’re filling the space with divine, unconditional love from your heart. Watch as it expands from your heart chakra and fills each corner. Each crevice. In your mind’s eye, bathe your walls in gold. Sage your home to cleanse it of any unwanted energy that is still hanging around. Anything that is no longer serving you. Imagine that the smoke is carrying it from your space. Burn Juniper and Palo Santo to bless the space, and invite in positive energy. Abundance. Blessings. Opportunities. Place selenite, other crystals, and plants throughout your home to balance the energy. Let them choose you.

M A I N TA I N It’s important to nurture this space. To view it as an extension of your own energetic body. As a ref lection of your own energy. A vessel for your own healing and your own love. And nurturing it can become part of your spiritual practice. Keeping it clean, tidy, and grounded. Continuing to sage and bless it each day.

TENDING TO

THE WILD A Nature Therapy Invitation for Cancer Season Kelsea Anderson 28

C

ancer is the most nurturing sign in the zodiac. In this seasons dive into the nature bath, you are invited to take note of how you are nurturing nature in your life, or how you can start now.

Tending to the wild is an interactive earthbased practice, where one offers acts of nurture towards Mother Nature, helping to restore the balance between humans and the natural world.

This Cancer invitation is to notice how you can incorporate wild tending in your own life, in your own way, or focus on where you may already be doing so. There are so many simple ways to care for the nature in our lives. Here are a few ideas how: • tidying up a favorite walking trail from fallen branches

Interacting with nature in this way is an ancient practice as cultures and peoples all over the world tended to the wild as a way of life - not only a way to improve the Land, but a spiritual way of being. They understood that what was nurtured and cared for would thrive, resulting in benefits for both their people and the earth, as well. Native Americans used fire to burn fields to improve new plant growth and to manage the forests. In modern day, we can think of farmer’s weeding their gardens so the crops thrive, or pruning fruit trees for a healthier fruit yield. Small acts of wild tending are powerful and meaningful too, it can be as simple as watering a plant or picking up trash from a favorite walking trail.

picking up any trash in a place in nature that you visit frequently

watering your house plants & f lowers

weeding the garden

Choose an act of wild tending that calls to your heart and see if you can incorporate it into your lifestyle routine for the duration of Cancer season. If you are unsure, ask the Land or being, “What can I offer you? In what way would you like to be nurtured more?” Listen with your heart for any answers that may come. Over time, notice how your relationship with the Land or being you are tending to transforms. To reflect on your experience you can explore journaling about your wild-tending journey, or share with us by tagging us at @ultreiavida!

During the Cancer season, you are invited to focus on how you may already be tending to the wild or new ways you can implement into your daily/weekly habits. Not only is tending as act of nurturing and care-taking for the Land, it also encourages us as humans to slow down, and interact with nature as it awakens and opens the senses. 29

This is a season that encourages you to look inwards, and stay closer to the Earth than to the Ether. Find strength and inspiration in the everyday: how can you live in ritual and ceremony with nature and all that surrounds you in your current environments? Cancer season encourages you to pause. Take the time away from all external stimulation, and look at the internal processes. The focus is on your home base. Your Self. In a sense, roam the open field of the many layers of you! Take your time in this traverse, you’ll have help and lessons coming from the celestial bodies, with eclipse and retrograde season present as well. Enjoy the journey.

A season of CLEARing so you can be the CLEAR channel you are (Get it? Terrible pun? Maybe??). The lessons of Gemini season spill over, as you learn to befriend the shadow and the light, harmonizing them and working to free yourself from over-identifying with too much. Cancer season asks you to build a bridge between our realm and the other ones that surround us, and as you do this, ask yourself if you can help others on the same quest as well. If there is resistance to sharing your medicine with others, perhaps consider that the resistance is part of the lesson from the shadow.

Fortune favours the brave. This season, bravery comes in the form of taking chances and going against the norm. Make your choices and get going, even if they seem to be going against the grain. You’ll be rewarded for it. Cancer season brings you a boost, and while everything you’re called to do seems to be the opposite of Cancer’s graceful, f lowing nature, keep those running shoes on because you’ll need them for the adventures you’ll go on. Stay awestruck by all the creativity and ideas that this season will bring. With the sun in the sign of motherly Cancer you experience rebirth.

AN INTRODUCTION TO INTUITIVE SOCIAL MEDIA Genevieve Coulson

34

H

ave you ever felt like there should “be a better way ” when it comes to social media marketing? Maybe it seems like everyone is doing the same things and it ’s starting to fall flat for you. Maybe you’ve done “all the right things” but not seen the results and you’re left wondering what went wrong, now what? Or maybe you look at social media marketing and think, “I know it ’s something I need but I don’t know how to make it work for me”. Whatever your current stance is on social media marketing if you’ve read this far there’s a chance that something in you feels like there’s room for improvement -welcome to energy and intuition, business style. Cancer is deeply intuitive and highly sensitive to energy. My work (magnetic social media) is centered around energy and intuition. So it was a no-brainer that I would invite you, the reader, into the world of intuitively guided social media marketing. Let ’s begin…

The word intuitive can mean slightly different things for different people but at the root of it is an inner-knowing, a pull towards something that we can’t really put our finger on but we feel a call to trust. In business, your intuition can appear in small things like leaning towards certain color schemes or sensing that a person will make a great partner. I want you to start thinking of your intuition as a muscle -- you can train, strengthen, and develop it. When I talk about energy (in terms of social media) I want you to begin thinking about the exchanges that take place. In social media, energy is exchanged: •

From you to your audience via your content

From you to your audience via engagement

From your network (following/search) to you via the content you engage with

Working with energy and intuition go hand in hand, they will both enhance the other. So the following section shares a few of the ways that I love incorporating these two components into my social media work and suggestions for how you can begin to as well.

35

INTUITION 1. Our intuition works best when it knows that we are receptive to it. So make it a point to start checking in with yourself. Your intuition can be like your business GPS -- let it guide the way. Make it a practice before beginning your way day/task to take a deep breath and let yourself know that you’re tuning in. Any signs, messages, signals it wants to send your way, you’re open to them 2. Notice the things that draw you in, notice the things that you put off. This may seem like a no brainer and more about preference than anything but we can also look at it from the lens of intuition. If you absolutely love doing the engagement work but dread/put off content creation your intuition could be guiding you to do more of the direct type of connection and communication. Hand the other piece off or rework your strategy so you have less of the thing you dread and more of the thing you naturally enjoy (and probably thrive at) 3. Identifying your ideal client or target audience is a must for any successful marketing strategy and this is one of the areas you can use your intuition. As you start to paint your picture make space for “feeling” into it. Go beyond the standard demographic notes (location, gender, work, income etc.) and think about what they might dream about, what kind of things they splurge on, where do they like to travel… let your mind run with it a bit and see what kind of vision it creates. You might be surprised at the specific gems it draws out 4. Honor your No (and your Yes). This applies to business and life but it’s a big one. Our intuition is largely rooted in self-trust. If you are constantly saying yes to things you want to say no to, your internal mapping system is bound to get thrown off. Check-in with your Yes and No for all things from deciding on color palates to font faces, to the delegation of tasks and messaging. Listen for that pull and then act on it

36

ENERGY 1. Our intuition works best when it knows that we are receptive to it. So make it a point to start checking in with yourself. Your intuition can be like your business GPS -- let it guide the way. Make it a practice before beginning your way day/task to take a deep breath and let yourself know that you’re tuning in. Any signs, messages, signals it wants to send your way, you’re open to them. •

Create the content in a carousel-style post with 2-5 slides to encourage people to stay on your account longer and increase your chances of the content being seen (the algorithm works in your favor on this)

Get it in your Stories! Repurpose your carousel content to create a storyboard style f low, adding slides in between or additional text/graphics/stickers to the slides themselves

Add a “second-tier” of hashtags to your Story, you’ve already selected one hashtag bank to put with your feed content that pertains to the post/y0ur IC now in the Story select another bank, maybe one that is trial IC and use it to draw that energy in there

Depending on the nature of the content save it and create a Highlight so that you have this living at the top of your feed. Think of it as a little battery charging station -- you always have a source of really well-crafted, you absolutely love it energy sitting right at the top of your feed to invite people in

2. Throughout your workday (or while working on any given task) make it a point to energy check. •

Are you vibing and cruising on through things with an effortless almost f low? Are you crushing through things feeling straight-up electric and on fire? Are you mellow and blissed but getting it all done in perfect time? All signs point to STAY in this energy -- notice how this feels and aim to make it your standard operating system.

Or… are you tense? Shoulders hunched and jaw clenched. You feel drained, tired, or distracted. You’re looking for distractions. You feel heav y, slow, frustrated, discouraged. PAUSE. All signs point to giving yourself a breather and a reboot. If you continue to try to operate from this place you won’t feel good and chances are that will ref lect in your work. (I know we all have things that we sometimes have to just “grin and bear” it through but there are still ways that you can do that kind of work and lighten your energy around it)

3. Start to read energy. You know when you’re being genuine, you also know when you’re not. Start to look for signs of this in others. In their messaging and copy, in their engagement. Notice when you feel that instant “click ” with someone when you’re engaging. Make note of the interactions that give you a boost, lift you up, make you want to connect more -think of how you can incorporate this into your practices and strategy

THE EMOTIONS T H AT D E F I N E YO U R H I G H E S T SELF IN HUMAN DESIGN Arianna Maag 38

E

ach human design type has an emotional theme that serves as an indicator of when the individual is in their power and when they are at risk of stepping out of their power. Knowing your human design allows you to advocate for your deep personal needs including emotional and unconscious. It also fortifies your ability to react and respond in ways that are consistent to your most innate nature.

The MANIFESTOR energy type can experience life between the realms of anger and peace. When manifestors feel angry, which might begin as growing passivity, that anger is showing them where they feel powerless or have repressed their urges. These feelings surface to show when they are not honoring their true self. However, when they are fully owning their power and acting on their urges they will feel a sense of peace as they move about their day to day.

The PROJECTOR energy type will perceive their contributions in either a light that shines bright as success or a dim one that echoes bitterness. This bitterness/success dichotomy helps projectors identify when their gifts are being recognized and summoned by the appropriate audience and when they fall short. When projectors own their brilliance and answer the right calls they will engage in a cycle of success.

The GENERATOR & MANIFESTING GENERATOR energy type experiments with life by weighing situations on a scale that leans towards satisfaction or frustration. These sacral beings know when they’re following decisions that aren’t energetically aligned to them when they start to feel frustrated and it is a sign to up level their actions. When generators commit their energy to things like work and relationships that feel genuinely good to them they’ll experience deep satisfaction. The REFLECTOR energy type dances with life through songs of surprise or disappointment. As ref lectors pull away from life too much or begin to see their sensitivity as weakness or identify with labels that do not serve them they will be met with feelings of disappointment. However, when ref lectors stay present and appreciative of all moments, whether these moments are perceived externally as good or bad, and are simply noted as profound, ref lectors get to delight in feelings of surprise in life.

Emotions provide depth and context to the human experience. In human design they can guide you as beacons on the best path for your optimal energy and happiness and serve as warnings when you’re veering from your true self. When you can recognize your feelings you’ll be able to recognize when you’re living in your truth. 39

ALIGNING WITH

THE MOON

Using the Moon as our guide, we can manifest our desires with grace and ease. Monica Giddens 40

iving in a world that focuses on technology and infrastructure, it 's easy to forget that we are beings of nature, first and foremost. Nature has a process for for ward movement and when it comes to how we navigate our own grow th and progress, we can take inspiration from the natural world. Just as Mother Nature has cycles and phases, we too work best when we allow ourselves the time and space to honor our own grow th processes. The moon can be an invaluable guide that takes us through the process of manifesting

our desires. Just as nature needs time to grow from seed to fruit, so too do the desires of our hear t. Since I began to align my work and personal project schedules with the moon, I' ve brought more patience and awareness to each project and harnessed the moon's incredible energy to sustain my focus and will to see it through.

NEW MOON SETTING INTENTIONS We are planting the seeds of our desires and really getting clear about what we want... what would you like to see manifest into your life this cycle? By making this intention and taking yourself seriously, you WILL manifest what you're asking for or something even better! So what is something that, if it manifests, will convince you of the power of these practices and your connection to the Universe? MANTRA Universe, I make my intention for ________ known to you. I welcome any inspired action that will help to bring this intention into my reality. I now surrender everything I think I know about time and space and allow you to surprise and delight me with what is possible. I know I am worthy of this desire and release all unnecessary shame or guilt I've felt in the past. I am in the receiving mode. Between the New and Full Moon, you will begin to receive guidance to show you the way to your desires (or more clarity about what you want, a win win, either way!) Trust that you're being guided and follow these intuitive nudges.

FULL MOON HARVESTING YOUR BOUNTY By the Full Moon, you should see some evidence of your desires in the physical world. Give gratitude to yourself for believing in your power and to the Universe for co-creating with you. MANTRA Universe, I've made my intentions known to you and you continue to give me the inspired action that's leading me to my desires. I see evidence of your guidance all around me and each moment of clarity helps me know my heart more. I'm truly grateful that I get to continue to deepen this connection with myself and energy within every being on this planet. Try this out starting on the next New Moon and allow the Universe to show you just how powerful you are!

WHY

G

kind you can make a tequila shot out of.

asppppp!!! Did I really just say that?

I mean, come on, you've probably felt it too.

If there's anything I'm sure about it's this...

We're all so bombarded with these empty quotes like:

Things are NOT going to work out the way you intended it to.

"Believe in Yourself " and "Just shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you' ll land amongst the stars".

There will be countless moments where you feel like your brain is going to snap like a stale breadstick.

CRINGEEEEE!!!

There will be moments in your life where you feel like you’re progressing as slow as an outdated internet explorer browser.

Whenever I come across these over-thetop-cliches, I wind up the biggest eye-roll, you'd think my eyes were going to get stuck to my lids.

And after all that, you want me to just believe in myself? EFF YOU!

Maybe you save these quotes on your phone and take a glance at them from time to time as an act of self-reminder.

You know what I call this? I call it toxic positivity.

That's all well and dandy! Heck, that's more than dandy! If it works for you then all the fucking power to you!

And don't get me wrong, I've been known to be as positive and as optimistic as a Tinky Winky Teletubby.

But truth be told, life hands a lot of bad and sour lemons our way - and not the

But in my opinion, toxic positivity is just as harmful as negativity. 45

Alternatively, as kids our biggest concern was convincing our parents to give their permission to stay out a little longer past curfew or if Mark would check off the “Yes, I like you” box on the paper note you discretely passed to him in class.

Here’s the biggest trap that we all easily fall into… We’re trained to believe that confidence or “believing in yourself ” is an innate thing. That the “believe in yourself ” muscle comes naturally to some but not to others.

And as a natural progress of life, these moments of self doubt just keep getting bigger, more agile and more aggressive. Hulk aggressive!

That’s a load of bull! Believing in yourself is a hard learned skill. It's not a natural human instinct in fact it's the total opposite.

And so life becomes a series of playing ‘catch up’. It starts becoming revolved around:

Staying positive, being happy, and being confident, actually all goes against what your brain is biologically wired to do. Our brains are designed to help us survive. It actively looks for problems to act as an unanticipated fire alarm to put you in a constant state of survival mode.

How am I a full grown adult and still chasing my tail to make ends meet?

Why can’t I fit in the jeans that I used to wear in college?

Gina just had her second kid, and I just swiped cheeto dust off my finger like a lollipop!

Think about our ancestors - the basic neanderthals who relied on their 5 senses for human survival. And as we evolved as humans, our brain strengthened the tool to watch out for signals of danger.

And you’re there feeling like you’re placing dead last in a runner’s race of a marathon called “life”.

And when you’re faced with a series of unfortunate events, as we all typically are, your brain is like “nah, girl, dangerous territory, this is as uncomfortable as a stiletto high heel, so you better stop.”

Ok, so before you go reaching to the tissues wiping the sad sobs of self-pity (hello I’ve been there), there’s actually two simple ways to strengthen your “believe in yourself ” muscle.

So naturally, as we grow and our responsibilities start to accumulate, the “believe in yourself ” muscle keeps getting weaker and weaker. Why? Because there’s so much more to be doubtful of. When our inner child is no longer at play, our inner critic’s voice becomes as loud as a megaphone at a pride parade festival. The sad thing is: you’re the only one who can hear it. 46

HEAL

Even if you haven’t taken a single engineering course - which let’s be real, only a handful of the population probably has, but here’s what engineers do best…

Now that you reverse engineered and figured out where that problem really derived from, now it’s time to heal and let your inner child play.

They look at a problem and reverse it to get to the solution.

Think to yourself:

So what does that mean? It means look at your current struggle and look back into how this manifested into the struggle that it is today.

Did I face this issue when I was just 5 years old?

How would I have reacted if I was just a child?

What were some of things that made me feel like I was a total badass when I was a kid?

Keep digging like you’re an archaeologist at the brink of a major artifact discovery!

For example: “I am a people pleaser” and you best bet that this intercepts any “believe in yourself ” muscle you could possibly have.

And here’s truly the best part…

Ok, so why are you a people pleaser? Because I love to help people.

START PLAYING!!! Allow your inner child to kick your inner critic to the curb.

Why do you love to help people?

Dancing made you feel like a badass? Do it!

Because I want to feel needed.

Cartwheels got you into champion mode? Get Cart-wheeling!

What makes you feel that you’re not needed? Because I always lived in my brother’s shadows and I was never needed in my family. BINGO!!! Now you dug to the root of the problem.

Is it easy? Not at first. But again, no muscle is automatically developed unless you work for it consistently. So don’t ever think that these empty quotes are the solution to where you wanna be… Because the only way you’ll fully heal or ever be able to “believe in yourself ” is when you truly work for it.

ancer season pulls us out into the public space within the northern hemisphere, summer calls; long days with friends, less time at work, and the joys of feeling warmth in the body. If Cancer season finds you in the winter months, watch your tendency to hibernate, hang solo and dig deep into your emotional field that is where cancer thrives, in the depth of emotions.Â

Cancer energy when balanced, is a great healer, a powerful empathic being that can hold the cries of suffering. An archetype, that demonstrates true service, deep listening and embodied states of empathy. A great deal of personal boundary and private dignity is needed for cancer energy to stay in balance with the surrounding environment. Social situations, and social niceties can often pull us away from inner vibration of balance, and we risk losing contact with our own energetic pulse. Sensitivity is

a skill of the Cancerian knowing, however it can be turned inward as victimhood, or pointed outward blaming others when in actuality we really aren't stepping up to help ourselves. Like every astrological sign, cancer contains specific manifestations of darkness. We can bring these dark sides into the light, so they do not undermine our love, integrity and service out in the world.

REFLECTION PROMPTS TO BRING THE DARK SIDES OF CANCER INTO THE LIGHT JO U RNAL , REFLECT AN D EX AM I N E thes e e ne r g etic c u r re nts within yo u.

1.

Checkmate your victimhood mentality. Clearly outline any places in your life you feel powerless, or as if you don’t have a choice in the matter. Dig deep look at your personal actions, family unit, political systems and community roles.

2. When and where do you have a hard time containing emotions? At what times in your life have you been emotionally violent towards others with your unprocessed emotions? Write out an experience you can ref lect upon and learn from. 3.

Do you experience oppressive self-diminishing thoughts? Write them out in detail, so you know what they sound like and where they lurk in your mental ecosystem.

Cancerian energy has a tendency to be way too hard on itself, and retreat into the shell of safety instead of building self-confidence. Take these above ref lections into the next month. Answer them several times with true honesty and see what comes up for you. Is there behavior lurking in your dark waters that needs to be released? To process the dark sides of cancer with light heartedness keep your creativity practice intact: dance, write, make art, sing, build altars get your loved ones and your family involved. Potent and balanced cancer energy has the power to health familial relationships and create a beautiful chosen family to support you in this deep inner work. Powerful Cancerian Transformation ahead if you ask these psyche clarifying questions.

CALLING HOME Jill K Therrien In a desperate search for comfort I reach to the sky. Grandmother moon greets me with her calm luminosity. I slide down to the ground beneath her invitation. I am drenched. Moonbeams and unconditional love wash over me. Her steady quiet holding strong. I feel the safety of her womb allowing me to drop deep into the abyss of my inner landscape. Effortlessly now I sing songs to Ocean mother before me. Her waves lapping at my feet, I slowly begin to find my pulse. There is truth, nourishment, and peace in this heart space. I linger between each beat. I f loat along in this moment, then that, wading in tides of insecurity, injustice, and Ancestral grief. I find solace in our connectivity. I am enraged. I am compassionate. I am wounded. I am terrified. I am gaining courage in each pause. It is possible to be all things. I return to this wisdom again and again. I want to feel it all. I need to feel it all. For me, for us, for them, for you. I embrace the vulnerability in my strength and rise. I find grace in my breath as I feel my belly rise and fall, caressing the space where my daughter once lived, now a vacant womb. Salty tears meet Ocean, ref lecting Moonlight, and the Winds return, softly passing along, witness to our exchange, calling Home.

Surrendered Intentions Ciara Kosse Destined for an evolution in this damaged vessel, I arrive detached from my assignment. Grasping onto a belonging weaved into the realm of galactic measure. Treading softly, exposing myself to the vulnerable ways of the world in disbelief. Aggressively digging into the thickness of this highly sensitive earth; imagining for a moment that I can curate a forward into this tangible space. Questioning the insecurity in my gate and forcing myself to walk into the lion's den by this transparency, I pause. Holding powerfully to the characteristics uprooted by my Ancestors before noticing the change in frequency...have I been exposed? The deliverance of this new heartbeat comes with the dancing ref lection of the moonlight. An accosted surge of rhythmic beats forcing me to take continued action and seizing every breath of uncertainty. Channeling the solar energy, I anchor my gifts in the captivating eclipse. Rocking myself to a lullaby sung by the tiresome children fighting a war that my claws can't sink into any further. A humble beginning to a beguiling dimension; collapsed by love. I stand still in the waves of frivolous destruction, admiring the commune I’ve built in alliance with a fatigued collective. One of honourable despair for their brothers and sisters, representing both sea and shore, son and daughter, man and Maker. Allowing the abyss to answer my cries, I fervently dig for the revival of our Mother’s essence. While the shadow casts it’s vast leavening across the planes, forcing a revolution, I weep. With conscious weaponry, I question and listen, holding tightly to my center beneath the galaxy and crack wide open.

THE ME ANING OF MOTHERHOOD A single woman's journey to understand why motherhood means so much to her. Nina Singh

S

cision. It is a decision I sometimes wish I could be making.

ince the quarantine began three different friends experienced the word motherhood in different ways. One gave birth to a healthy baby boy just a few days ago. One announced her pregnancy and revealed the gender over Zoom, FaceTime and Whatsapp. And the third endured a miscarriage. Each of these women had a different journey to conception and what followed. Their emotional experiences were vastly differently. But they all share a common desire, to bring a child into this world. A desire that I share with them.

For most unmarried single people like myself motherhood might not even be a thought. But for me, since I was thirteen and my neighborhood babysitting business got off the ground, I knew the job of being a mom was one I wanted. By the time I was 27 I could feel that desire in my body. Seeing a baby or a toddler run around brings me so much joy. I find that I am more present when I am around kids. I am in awe watching their eyes take in things mine have already overlooked.

When ref lecting on these friends’ experiences, I could not help but think of the ways in which they prepared to carry a child. For many women, the preparation is both a physical and mental process that can go on sometimes for years and even then, end in heartbreak. Unlike past generations, the women I know have chosen to become mothers because they want to. Because being a mother means something to them. It is a logical, emotional and spiritual de-

It took a lot of time for me to understand my desire to become a mother and what it will mean when I have children. As I looked back on my family tree, I realized my generation is the first that gets to choose to have children. Every woman from my mother back had an arranged marriage, which means they had little to no say in selecting their partner. Imagine, without 72

knowing a thing about this person you are expected to be intimate and start planning for children. It is strange even for me to think about and I grew up in this culture. I feel privileged to live in this time and to have parents who respect my independence and don’t impose these expectations on me.

without thinking of the developmental impact on the child. In my own life I have seen how the lack of inner work on my parents’ side has impacted me. It has required therapy, reparenting work and inner child dialogues to untangle myself from unhealthy patterns and conditioning. In doing this work, I also discovered that the mental health challenges in my family are generational and linked to shared feelings of unworthiness. Feelings I hope end with me.

But though there is relief in my freedom, I still bear the scars of the generations prior. Many of the women who came before me suffered silently through childhood trauma, abuse and unhealthy marriages. Not all of them had the strength or ability to care for their children in the “right” way. My mother was one of those women. She was impacted severely by her mother’s abandonment and lack of love. And in her teens she lost her father, the only source of love in her family. My mother could not give much to her children because she spent most of her life in survival mode.

It feels like never ending work, but it is work that will also serve my future children. And though there are moments I wonder when my road to motherhood will begin, I am also grateful to have the opportunity to continue working on myself. During this quarantine I have had to really tune into how I have been feeling. Honoring those feelings is the hardest part for me. And in order to do that I had to learn a new way of talking to myself. I had to work to respond to those feeling in a way that a loving parent would. I now say goodnight to photos of a younger version of me and when I’m feeling anxious I appeal to my inner child by connecting with that scared “kiddo”.

I was aware of my mother’s struggles, even at a young age. I had a lot of sympathy for her despite also wishing she was more emotionally available. And because of other challenges within our family I did not spend much time addressing the impact she had on me. During an Akashic Record training some of these issues came to light. In one exercise I regressed into my mother’s womb. Immediately, I was overcome by a deep feeling of sadness. I could feel my mother’s feelings. She did not feel joy or excitement. She felt burdened. I knew in that moment that I was unwanted, and tears poured down my face. It was a salient experience in my Akashic training. And though it was sad to feel it also helped me make sense of why I have always felt unwanted and unloved.

There are moments when I feel like I may never be ready for the task. But to take the pressure off, I had to reframe and see that I am not setting out to be a perfect parent creating perfect children. Instead, I hope to show up authentically and honestly and allow my future children to grow into themselves with the scaffolding of my love. And I have to accept that I will likely never feel equipped to be a mother, especially while managing my own mental health issues. But I am fortunate to have seen three beautiful and powerful women start their journey and share with me their lessons. They show me that it is possible, and they will be my support when I am ready to join them.

This experience as well as many others that followed helped me to understand the connectedness of parent and child. And as I dove deeper into psychology, I realized how selfish it is to bring life into this world 73

Emotional outburst incoming, I’ve been running, My tracksuit lacks proof, But it’s still stunning. My heartbeat keeps pace, With the worlds cunning. The worlds funny... The voice of a dear friend is still ringing, Like birds singing in my ears, Notes are crystal clear but, Bring swift warning. The Hummingbird says, It’s best to stay heart centred until morning, When the dawn brings fresh water, Down pouring. Cleanse your self, Cleanse your aura. Pour some aqua upon your f lora, Fauna approaches slower, When your drama is roller coaster, So toast to your beloved, And roast your tyrannosaurus. The most, Tyrannical host, Is the one who boasts while we are uproaring. While our wings are soaring, You see, Like sky eagles, Thy peoples, Deserve blessings upon your glory. Who is it that’s telling this story? Who is it that speaks about the blight, That all of our light has greeted warmly? Who is it that remembers the night, That crawls beneath our doors, And enters inside our ears and eyes, And frightens us to our core? See, Ignorance is abhorring... With a tongue like a hungry ghost, Suppose you feed it all of your truth and more, And it’s never willing to let you go.

Sharpen the sword of attention, Honour the beasts that roam your mind. Listen for the harp that plays you resurrection, And lifts you up like the Sun in the East at this time. Virtue has no curfew, Compassion needs no judge or jury. Tenderness does not sit idle and weigh its kiss, While the warrior creates art out of its fury. You are a model of the universe my love, You are a model of truth. Express with that given throttle of love, Abolish the need for abuse. Take this cup of love my love, Drown yourself in its f lood. Drink and pour at every door, Until you remember that you are related by blood. You belong to this, my love. You belong to us. I belong to this, my love. I belong to you. I belong to you, in love.

Emotions govern us as human beings, that we know from experience. To understand your emotions as your inner governor you must first listen to them. This sequence offers you a moment to check in with the source of your inner wisdom by both energizing and restoring the parts of your body that connect to your heart. As you stimulate the pericardium meridian from your hands to your heart you will experience openness, forgiveness and a new found sense of ease in vulnerability.

Energy-healing rituals help us in this area to cleanse stagnant energy and trapped e-motions. I created a brief self-care ritual to help you tap into your e-motions and begin the work of clearing your energetic blockages. You can do this energy-healing ritual with the use of stones or without. I highly recommend that you gather the stones that you have available, one for each chakra, and if you don’t have any at the moment that is fine as well. Otherwise, if purchasing stones for this ritual, you can look for a chakra stone set, which has the color stones for each of the 7 chakras to help accommodate you in this energyhealing practice.

-motions play a great role in our every day lives. When we can tap into that part of ourselves on a deeper level, we will then begin to further understand what causes e-motions and where those e-motions are held in the body. In Reiki, qi is explained as the universal life-force energy that flows through all creation. So, in our bodies we have this same energetic frequency, qi. In Ayurveda, Chakras are known as the energetic centers of our bodies, which in Sanskrit, chakras are likened to “spinning wheels.” These spinning wheels can become stuck and imbalanced, causing dense energy. When our chakras are aligned and free-flowing, the energy in our body vibrates at a higher frequency, helping us attune and connect to our inner-selves.

**Disclaimer: If you are experiencing severe depression and need the assistance of a clinical professional, then I would highly advise that you seek outside help. This ritual is for those who are interested in practicing mindfulness and meditation to better align their energy, while also learning how to tap into their e-motions.

01

BE MIND F UL OF W H AT YOU A RE F EEL ING

One thing to understand is that e-motions are energetic frequencies in motion; energy in motion. Think of e-motions as vibrations that we accept into our bodies, and act out through expressions, based on how we perceive the e-motion. When experiencing different e-motions and moods, pay attention to how they make you feel. Whether you're experiencing feelings of happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, joy, or impatience — pay attention to how you feel at the moment, and what is making you feel this way. When you’re happy and feel joy in your heart, take a mental note of what brought about those elated feelings; these are the things that bring fulfillment into your life, so you would want to be very mindful of this. In contrast, when feeling lower vibrational e-motions such as anger, fear, sadness, impatience, or frustration — it’s a good idea to take some time and sit with these sensations, allowing yourself time to deeply understand them, and learn how to clear those denser energies.

02

SCAN YOUR BODY FOR TRAPPED ENERGY

Body scanning: take some time to sit alone in your silence and literally scan your body with your hands. You can do this sitting or standing. I’ve added a brief video demonstrating a peaceful way to do this. Think of it as a meditative moment where you are focusing on finding the energy blockage in your body. Notice the energy in your body as you scan and pay attention to the area that feels most tense. Take your hands and start from your crown chakra. Take both hands and place them on the top of your head, glide them down the side of your face, and place one hand over your throat chakra and the other over your heart chakra. Pause for a moment, taking 2-3 breathes – inhaling and exhaling. Continue to follow your hands, one above the other — scanning down your chest to your belly, your solar plexus chakra. Hold both hands there as if you're cradling your stomach with one hand on each side. Again, inhale and exhale 2-3 breathes and pause. Notice the energy in your body as you are scanning. For example, I automatically know when something is not right or when I am having an anxious moment because I feel it in the pit of my stomach; I get an uneasy feeling there. I hold my e-motions and anxiety in my stomach, so my solar plexus is the area that gets affected when I’m dealing with e-motional blockages. Those blockages affect my digestion, causing me to work overtime to balance my digestion and this chakra. So, once you're aware of where you hold your e-motions, then you can focus on clearing that blockage.

KNOW YOUR TRIGGERS

03

Remember the emotion and what triggered it.

04

Identify what made you feel that way

Process that information

Write down the e-motions and try to recall the last time you felt this way. Think to yourself if it was at all connected to this present moment?

Recall the senses you experience(d): sight, taste, visual, or perception of the e-motion.

Name the e-motion and speak directly to it. For instance, if you feel pain, name it “pain” and speak to the pain. Tell the pain that it hurts and that you want to understand why it hurts. Tell (not ask) the pain that you want healing from it and to give you insight on how to deal with this pain. Call on your angels and your spirit guides of the highest good for assistance with this ritual. Use prayer or whichever spiritual chant or commune you prefer.

CLEAR EMOTIONAL ENERGY BLOCKAGES

For this step, you may want to light your favorite incense, sage or Palo Santo smudge stick to help you release the energy. If you already have your stones out great, if not, take a moment and go grab them. If you don’t have any stones or crystals at the moment, that is fine as well. Stones and smudging are simply [powerful] tools to assist you with energy-clearing, but your intention is where the real power lies. If you have your stones, choose one for the area or chakra where you experience(d) the energetic blockage or tension. Use the chart on the opposite page as a guide to help you choose which stones to use. Place the stone on that area (i.e., if you felt the energy more strongly in your stomach or solar plexus chakra, place the stone there). Say a positive mantra as you speak to the e-motion, the same as you did in step 3. Speak life into that blockage and command that it be removed from your body. This may take time and several attempts. However, beginning this mindfulness practice allows you to tap into that e-motion, becoming familiar with it. Doing so also teaches you a self-healing way to clear the stagnant energy that lies in your body.

Be well and don’t forget to spend some sacred time taking care of yourself on a consistent basis! Peace, love and light — Healer Tiffany xoxo

Your hunger may be ravenous, your mood swings may be strong. Do your best to keep blood sugar levels balanced by eating fat and protein with every meal and snack. If emotional upheavals cause your appetite to diminish, try drinking bone broth, vegetable broth, or miso soup. This will help to keep your baseline mineral and protein stores up.

’Tis the season for emotional processing, and from the foodie perspective, that might mean comfort food. Before we go any further, please allow any judgement surrounding comfort food to begin to soften. We are emotional creatures; each piece of our lives is interwoven with emotional experiences, and to expect anything different from our food is unrealistic. Food can be joyful, grounding, revitalizing, sometimes boring, and certainly comforting.

If cancer features in your chart, you may be well aware of your profound love for food, and perhaps you have many fond memories that involve sharing food with loved ones. However, if you have blocked your love for food, or have a painful relationship with eating, this may be the perfect time to gently, safely explore and begin to heal.

So please, dear one, if you find yourself in deep waters of the heart and soul throughout this season, try not to attach any shame to the ways in which you find comfort. If certain foods are calling you, allow them to nourish your belly, your body and your spirit. It might be just the thing.

So, if you're feeling me on listening to your body AND emotions throughout cancer season, let's dive into some specific foods and a comforting recipe.

On the elemental level, cancer is a water sign: deep, powerful, and ruled by the moon.

ogi Bhajan says “ Kundalini Yoga is the master science of experience and awareness. It is a transmission of consciousness from person to person. It is a Raj Yoga that awakens you inside.” Dear one, This is a letter to your higher self, to the coming of your personal revolution. You can’t buy it, you can’t sell it, you can’t wrap it up and stick it under the tree. You can’t prime it, express ship it, or put it in a bottle for you and me. You are potent, you are strong, I have been with you all along. Subtle yet powerful, you will rise day by day when you pursue this desire. Show UP, Say YES, please don’t doubt me, and always do your best. That is all I will ever ask of you, to show up with an openheart- so I can witness this transformation, your revolution, the never-ending sorts. I will make you question yourself and again and again, please note that this is part of my job description, the end usually resulting in a big grin. If I were to have given you it all from the beginning, you wouldn’t have attained the smarts, wisdom or grit that is needed to sustain this potent energetic hit. Not that you will ever be done, I want you to realize you have indeed become. Kundalini is in each and everyone of you, energy that sits dormant at the base of your spine. Once Activated, it slowly rises, up and through our chakras, awakening, empowering you to drop those fears, get out of your head and into your heart. To go after your mission, soul purpose, and remember its all about the experience. xx

COME HOME TO

MAMA Chloe Metcalf

I

find myself lost at sea when I forget to anchor my soul at home with my inner mother. Cancer season happens in the dead of winter for me in Australia, this is when the icy cold wind blows and I find myself wanting to rug my body in a warm blanket snuggling down under the sheets watching the rain hitting my window panes. I love snuggling my babies, watching a movie, drinking a hot cup of tea awaiting the brief moments - rays of golden sunlight come dancing through the clouds that gently toast my soul into a state of joyful bliss. The world is in a state where all we can do is nurture and hold ourselves in waiting, this is the most powerful time of sacred destruction and global realignment of collective unity. This time offers the gift to come back home and remember who we are beyond the busy life we once crafted for ourselves, thinking the hustle was the fulfilment we should want and enjoy . Coming home calls me back into alignment of my soul, it calls me back reminding me the power of the slowdown, the art of the feminine, what it means to have space to breathe, to move cyclically 94

as though we are nature itself, dancing with the seasons rather than moving forward at highspeed, rushing so fast we forget to stop and see if we are even on the right path. I am a mother of three under the age of five, I also work for myself following my creative souls passions and my own and innate callings. But from time to time I find myself feeling lost and unable to find my anchor to work out what it is that I really desire. Usually this means I’m in my own head and not enough in my body. The process of coming home for me requires slow down the recognition that I need care, I need to be my own mother. This process doesn’t have to take long and for me it takes a day to a week of honouring the need to deeply connect with my body temple - this calls me home, a reminder that I am not the stories and thoughts in my mind, but rather I am this soul having a human experience and this requires me to be present with my reality. I come home to foundation of the needs. One is to feed. Two is to wash. Three is still.

01. FEED Food. This usually requires me to make a hearty soup, something that grounds me, something that is rustic and something probably your Nanna used to make. My soup usually requires either all root vegetables and lentils or the classic chicken noodle soup. Here is my vegan recipe for a root vegetable soup.

R O O T V E G E TA B L E S O U P INGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS

1 potato

1. Roughly peal and chop all vegetables and place into a pot with salt and olive oil. Stir and place a lid on, lifting lid occasionally to stir so that the food doesn’t burn. After everything has begun the cooking process add the vegetable stock and cup of water.

1 can lenti ls 2 carrots 1 turnip or Swede 1/2 le a k 1L vegetable stock

2. Give it 30 minutes with stirring and sitting, checking that the potato is fully cooked through and once you can cut through it with ease your soup is ready. Add salt and pepper to taste and enjoy.

1 cup water 2 celer y sticks 2 bay leaves 2 cloves crushed garlic 1 tsp dried t hy me 2 tsps dried parsley s+p to taste

To feed doesn’t always mean food for me — it also refers to feeding my soul. This means a good book, a spiritual podcast or a deep heart to heart conversation with a dear friend. Often if I find myself binge eating that usually tells me my soul is hungry for more connection or soul food in life. 95

0 2 . WA S H When it comes to coming home into my body, a bath is the most essential self care moment. I love to take a bath, I love how it feels on my skin has the water holds me. I love to fill the tub up all the way to the top when the water almost rushes out onto the f loor. And I’ll go for a shower, but there’s nothing quite like filling the bath full of herbs and oils, magnesium salts, and allowing the aroma to come and surround and enter within my body. I love placing rose petals on the water and watching them dance and rehydrate. I love to light candles and place my giant crystals in the bottom of the water just to see what they look like. I can feel the energy of them infusing into my soul as I slip into the hot steamy waters. I love having the water so deep that my body f loats. My favourite recipe for bath salts is below and it brings me so much joy to share this with you And I hope you enjoy the feeling of bliss supporting your soul. I have a ritual I like to do around my essential oils that I add: I take a moment to breathe and I pick out an oil that almost supports my soul. Every time is different and the plant medicine helps me to focus on what my body needs the most to feel whole and at ease.

B AT H S A LT S INGREDIENTS

1/2 c u p ma g ne siu m salts 5 drops essentia l oi ls (r o s e a n d l a v e n d e r a r e a nice mix for love and peace or f rankincense to clear and reset my e n e r g y)

DIRECTIONS

1. Place into running water and stir until salts dissolve. I also love setting the mood in the bath for serious chill, lighting a candle or 20 and putting on some gentle music or a good audio book takes me to the right space of calm.

1 tsp rose petals

Wash also refers to watching this all clean off and I like to do a ritual. Lighting candles, creating spells... it helps me to focus. And I love to clear my body with smoke and incense. Or walking up the hill on a really windy day. 96

03. STILL Finding still. It’s nearly impossible in the life of the mother of three but I have my moments. I deliberately now seek out the first half hour of my morning before the children rise - that generally means it’s before the sun is up. My favourite rituals are creating myself a warm cup of tea or ceremonial grade cacao and sit deliberately just to drink, not to think, and to hold that deeply in my heart that this is a moment to cherish, for it is sacred. My other favourite ritual that I have recently begun to step back into is to sit next to my beehive and listen to the home of the bees working. There is something about being around wild animals that stops you thinking about what needs to be made for dinner or what time I have to pick up the children. The hum reminds me of the importance of prayer — that all things that I do if I do it with prayer, will be filled with love; that is the sweetness in life. Stillness is very hard for my mind to come by. It is always rushing and doesn’t yet know when to stop. It takes this act of coming home to really step into that slow down and to pause. I find this still can only really come when I’m sitting outside on the earth. When I still, I take time to breathe, consciously being aware of where I am but not what I have to do nor who I have to be. I get to enjoy myself, to feel the sensations of my body but not so much to feel the emotions. If I step in to my emotions I forget the importance of purely being at home in myself, I take this time just to hold myself, that moment, and in that sensation of being within my own skin.

Come home my darling, the mother is awaiting you. Her arms wide open to embrace you as you feel the warmth of her all encompassing unconditional love for you, just as you are. 97

EMOTIONS AND O U R E N E R GY Daniela Godfrey

motions are part of our human life. We all have emotions and sometimes it is hard to figure out how to deal with them, particularly when they are recurring and affecting our life in a detrimental way. If we are willing to learn more about ourselves and our energetic nature, we can understand better how to control our emotions.

Why do we have emotions and how to deal with them in this human experience?

courage, strength and accomplishment. Emotions are external and linked to our thoughts, beliefs, past experiences, environment and so on. We express ourselves through emotions. It is the way we react to people, life events, conditions and situations.

You may be aware that we have ‘four bodies’: physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. They are dynamic and interconnected and our emotions affect all of them. These ‘bodies’ are in balance when our emotions, thoughts and feelings are stable, controllable and in f low.

So our external world is a mirror of the internal world.

If we want to grow, evolve and learn to master our life, we need to understand the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and emotions because they co-create our reality.

Science and Spirituality are telling us that we are part of one Source of energy, Unified field (Quantum Field) or Infinite Intelligence. This Source of energy is based on love and Oneness, which is the connection with everything.

Thoughts and feelings play an important role in regulating our emotions. Our thoughts inf luence our feelings and our feelings inf luence our emotions. If we can change our thinking and look at situations in a more positive way, we can create the outcome we want. You may have heard the saying ‘where thought goes, energy f lows’!

When we understand the truth that we, as human beings, are a part of the infinite collective consciousness and not separated from anything else, we can bring more awareness to the energy of which we are made. We are vibrational beings and have our own frequencies. The energy in our energetic body can have a strong impact on how we feel, think and act in our life.

Feelings are very much internal and part of our own consciousness. They dictate the way we perceive things. Sometimes we have feelings of sadness, fear or limiting beliefs and other times we have feelings of love, 100

Our consciousness vibrates and communicates through the feeling state. If we want to change our reality, we need to change our feeling state. Why is that? The feeling we hold in our heart generates emotions and creates our reality.

S P I R I T U A L B O D Y: practice Oneness (feeling ‘at one’ with all things), stillness, silence and solitude, humility, surrendering, develop your intuition and the connection with the Divine Source, be of service, prayer, devotion, chanting

You might have seen this quote from Gregg Braden: ‘The feeling is the prayer’.

E M O T I O N A L B O D Y: meet and release fear and limiting beliefs, stop judging and criticising yourself and others, practice gratitude, acceptance and forgiveness, show love and appreciation, journaling

Our human reality constantly vibrates with lower and elevated emotions. How do we regulate and bring them in balance? With awareness and free will. We are born with free will and can use it when we need to make a choice.

A simple practice to raise vibration and regulate our emotions is using the intention to connect with the heart and breathe love in and out. It takes only few moments and works well when we experience lower emotions and feelings of being overwhelmed by life. It can be done many times during the day, and the more we do it the easier it becomes to control our emotions. When we connect with our heart and breathe love in and out, we create an internal and external state of peace and balance. This brings instant joy, freedom and acceptance in our life.

We need to be more aware of our energy, thoughts, feelings and emotions, and to remember that we always have free will. When dealing with lower emotions we can either choose to live in pain, anger, guilt and suffering or choose to raise vibration and bring in positive emotions such as gratitude, compassion, appreciation and care. From a spiritual aspect, all things serve. Everything, including our darker emotions, are nourishment for our soul. Our soul wants to love everything we are, all parts of us. Our true and natural state is divine love; so we should remember to always hold the vibration of love.

We are the creators of our reality. We create with free will, our vibration and the innate power that resides in our heart. We are the only one in charge of our life and have a choice. We can choose to raise our vibration, maintain elevated emotions and live a balanced and harmonious life.

There are many ways to raise vibration, control our emotions and create balance between our ‘four bodies’. Some are well known and listed below. P H Y S I C A L B O D Y: eat more plant based and organic food, relax, get enough sleep, stretch, move, dance, walk barefoot, detox M E N TA L B O D Y: practice meditation, mindfulness, awareness, breath work, spend time in nature, watch less tv, declutter 101

H I G H F R E Q U E N CY HABITS OF BEING E

xplore high frequency habits of Being you can practice to create your own energetic evolution into your highest and best Self.

Lauren Zavlunov

In a time when the world is in a profound awakening, the most impactful actions are the ones that we take within ourselves.

How we reach our goals isn’t through the hustle. Sometimes it is as simple as choosing thoughts and actions that resonate on the vibration of our desires, that help us step into our future Self and access that energy now.

If you are reading this, most likely you are a mystic and a visionary. Someone who is connected to Self, eager to go deeper, to take action, to consciously create in a way that most on this planet haven’t dreamed of just yet.

How we do this is a practice... That daily choosing of one new belief, one new energy, one new action over another. That cultivating of awareness and truth.

Our Being in the world, our unique energy, perspective, beliefs and habits create a frequency. This frequency radiates from us out into the world and creates the reality we see. (This gives me all the feels just thinking about how powerful we really are!)

It is the gentle plucking of the old beliefs that no longer serve us, and replacing them with new, powerful energy to bring us into a new energetic frequency. Embracing these elements will create new powerful ways of Being in the world that will have you reaching your ultimate visions, goals and alignment so much faster!

So what if we were even more conscious of our frequency? What if we learned more powerful ways of Being to invite more magic, more joy, more abundance, more ease into our experience?

Let’s dig into some of the most powerful ways of Being we can practice to create our own energetic evolution into our highest and best Selves.

What if we released the hustle, release the “should” and stepped into a new way of Beingness so powerful that the results you achieve are merely the byproduct of your incredibly rich life and frequency. 104

01. TRUTH TELLING We can do all the journal work, the astro charts and crystal meditations we like. If we do not look at exactly what is going on for us first and tell ourselves the truth about our emotions, our life, our habits, our beliefs and our true desires, then we cannot facilitate lasting change. Clarity is the foundation of all. Once you are in the energy of clarity, you get to place your order with the Universe. So when we begin this work, and even if you’ve been doing this for some time, start out with some simple but impactful questions: •

What is really going on for you?

What do you really desire?

How can you tell yourself the truth about where you are at and where you truly wish to be?

0 2 . TA P P I N G I N T O T H E V I S I O N Our vision is everything. If you want to resonate at a higher frequency and offer momentum to your goals whether they are spiritual, emotional or in business- tap deep into your vision. Get incredibly specific. Feel the feels. Write down the emotions, the details, the sights, the smells, the sounds, the tastes. (It should give you goosebumps and make you feel excited!) Most people do not allow themselves to dream on this level or only have a vague sense or description of what they truly desire. The logical mind will attempt to crush those outlandish desires and wants. Do. Not. Allow. It! I highly recommend busting out that journal regularly and writing out your vision and getting super specific. This is where the actual magic happens. Get clear on all the juicy details and allow yourself to feel it fully. Allow yourself to dream! The “how” it will happen is not your concern. (Don’t let your logical mind convince you otherwise!) •

What do you really want? Like REALLY want?

What if there were no judgements?

What if you could be fully and powerfully expressed?

What would life look like if you couldn’t fail?

How would you be showing up in the world if you were consistently in the energy of your next level already?

0 3 . J O U R N A L I N G E X PA N S I V E LY " Sp e l lin g is a s p e l l.” - Er y k h a B a d u The moment you bring a thought down onto paper you have brought it from the non-physical realm to the physical. As you write it, you give that thought and that word power. So imagine what you can give power to right now! For me, there are so many powerful ways to journal. There are ways that contract us and keep us in the energy of the past, and methods that expand us into the energy of our future. Journaling can shift us into new energy, raise our vibration, offer clarity, and help us access the vibration of our future successful aligned selves! Journaling out the past over and over, focusing our energy on what was or what we are currently seeing in our reality can be problematic. What we see today is just the past residue of our previous beliefs, thoughts and habits. Of course, journaling for catharsis can be helpful and wonderful for us to release what we need. But, as a daily practice, without shifting our focus to what we DO want, I believe that this keeps us stuck in that residual energy of the past. •

Write out what you want to see.

Write out how it feels and what it looks like.

You get to choose what happens next. Cast your spells for the future and watch what happens!

106

0 4 . L I V I N G C O N G R U E N T LY We all crave to masterfully create in our lives, impact others in a positive way. One of the most powerful ways of Being is to live congruently. Alignment comes from when your words, thoughts, actions, and energy are in agreement. We cannot say we want something and still have judgement around it. We cannot believe we are living one way and yet our actions do not ref lect it. This is the evolutionary work we all get to do, and, once you create a practice of living in this congruence, you are the example for others to live their truth as well!

How are you living in congruence with your words, thoughts and actions?

How may have you been ignoring elements in your life that are a bit out of alignment?

What will you change now?

0 5 . S T E P P I N G I N T O YO U R P O W E R: TA K I N G A L I G N E D AC T I O N Lastly, the most life shifting thing you can do is to simply take action! Do the thing you masterful creator! We can do all the above elements, but we don’t fully realize them until we choose to take some kind of action into the world. Once you have given yourself the gift of clarity on what is going on for you, what you truly desire, how to shift into the vibration you truly wish to and live congruently - you get to now DECIDE. What will you DO next? You You You You You

get to step into that energy of the future now. don’t need to wait. don’t need to be ready. don’t need to be perfect. don’t even need to be fearless.

You get to decide and choose your next thought, your next step, your next vision. Imperfect action brings the momentum that catapults you into the future. (Do nothing. Remain where you are.) Your inner GPS gets to guide you to what is right for you. Choose a direction, take a deep breath, and move yourself into a higher frequency of Being.

EMBR ACING THE MESS P

ermission to feel the full range of your emotions and a meditation help you to sit with, welcome, and let go of the difficult emotions you experience.

Nicoletta D’Ambrosio

I

Feeling sad does not make you weak.

spent years upon years building up armour around my heart.

Feeling disappointed does not make you a fool.

I thought if I could build the armour, I could protect myself from all the uncomfortable feelings I had once felt.

Feeling the full range of emotions makes you courageous. It makes you strong. It makes you human.

I avoided sadness.

Today, I release the notion that messy feelings are to be avoided. I grant us all permission to feel our feelings, understand our feelings, and know that our feelings are passing like a cloud in the sky.

I avoided disappointment. I avoided getting hurt. In my mind, those emotions made me weak. I had to be strong to survive. I had to be strong for the people around me. I had to be strong because my whole life felt like I meant to encourage others to feel but never myself.

May you feel it all. May you embrace the messy parts of life just as much as the beautiful.

I built the armour and became numb to all feelings. I became numb to the world. I yearn for true love. I yearn for passion. I yearn to truly be seen. The armour I had built was blocking everything I was missing. I slowly realized that I need to feel the full spectrum of emotions in order to feel those things like joy, happiness, and fulfillment. The day I gave myself permission to feel everything was the day I began living.

G OT G U I LT Patty Montoya

I

n this article, I want to speak about guilt while grieving. What is it? Why do we feel it? And how can we cope with it? I share my personal story of how guilt almost devoured me, and how I finally was able to break the shackles. Today I can say I am able to identify guilt and successfully cope with it.

After blaming myself for his death did not bring me peace, I became a control freak (a term I use with love). My comments to myself became, “why are you writing with this pen and not this one?” “How could you be so insensitive?” how, why, when... At this point, I started dissecting all my actions. If I could control my life, I could control the survival rate of everyone around me. When I realized this was the coping mechanism I was using, I felt... you guessed it GUILTY. How could I ever become a control freak? Did I not know better, that control is not possible; nobody can control death.

Let’s start by labeling guilt. Guilt is an emotion. Emotions need to be validated for us to be able to move forward with them. The more we ignore them and push them back, the more strength we give them. Like any other emotion, the best way to work with guilt is to see it, then acknowledge it, and finally understand where it is coming from. We feel guilt during the grieving process because we are not taught that death is part of life. We want to believe that there must have been a way to save this person. That by them dying, we did not do everything we could have done to save them. In our heads, we dissect every moment, thinking over everything we could have done differently to have this person in our lives today. In my case, after my brother died, there was a massive shift in my emotions. Before he was sick, I was very carefree, the world was my oyster, and I felt there were no consequences for my actions. I was a senior in High School; my life was starting. With his death, my world was turned upside down. I thought that somehow his death was my fault; maybe if I hadn’t snuck him a burger at the hospital, he would still be alive.

So guilt continued to follow me. Some years later, I was in the car with my mom, and she shared how GUILTY she felt about how she hadn’t cared “enough” for my brother. Mind you, she did not leave his sight for the whole year that he was sick. She was 100% dedicated to him. So yeah, I thought her guilt was incredibly irrational. At that moment, I pointed out how wrong she was to feel guilty about her past actions. However, telling someone not to feel guilty is very dismissive. Guilt cannot be erased by someone else telling you, “do not feel guilty; you did everything you could.” 110

my sense of responsibility to my job was very strong. I was struggling with the idea of being there for my job and my mom. I decided to organize my schedule to be with my mom as much as possible. I organized my schedule to help her with everyday tasks. I also decided to work from her room to spend as much time as possible with her.

This conversation with my mom was the start of a change in my perception. Later, when my uncles passed away, and I was not able to be there for their burials, I decided not to feel guilty. Yes, I did miss my uncles. I felt sad, angry, you name it. Instead of feeling guilty because I was not able to be with my family for the funerals, I worked through my guilt and sat down and talked it through. Why was I feeling guilty? I did not kill them. Yes, I couldn’t travel to be there, but I also couldn’t go to friend’s weddings, or my be with family for their birthdays. I decided that my life cannot be controlled by feeling guilty for all of those moments I had no control over.

Later, when she passed away, people thought that I might be feeling guilty for not being there for her “enough.” In reality, I had already worked it out in my mind. I had made peace with my guilt, and I had a plan of action. Yes, my controlling coping mechanism was back, but it did not matter because it helped me organize myself and avoid the gutting feeling of guilt. Could I have done more? YES, ABSOLUTELY. Should I have done more? It depends on who you ask. Today, two years after she passed away, I feel at peace when I think of those moments and my decisions.

My coping mechanisms to work around guilt were put to the test with my mom’s death. We were spending holidays with my parents, and my mom was complaining heavily about a pain she was feeling in her back and abdomen. When the pains began, I pushed her to see a doctor, but she refused. She would complain of sharp pains when the car hit bumps on the road and even when she had to walk! I felt frustrated that she was not taking care of herself, and I complained to my father so that he could do something about it. Her reaction was to stop complaining. Did you notice that my controlling side came out? I thought that if she saw a doctor, we could solve this problem, and nothing could happen to her.

I want to make sure to state that every story is different, but banging our heads against the wall because we messed up before does not help. Let’s learn to identify our feelings, label them, and give them the space they need. I see these moments in my life as a great lesson. The lesson depends on what I am trying to learn. Today I wanted to share how I overcame my feeling of guilt with the loss of my loved ones. It does not mean I do not feel guilt, because I do. It just means that I am not so hard on myself. I sit down and look at the facts, and the fact is that that burger I gave my brother a year before he passed away did not kill him. His leukemia killed him. I need to understand that I did my best, and I need to understand that he would have passed away no matter what. Why feel guilt when it was out of my control? This is what I tell myself. I hope my story helps you with your guilt. We can all do better, and I hope we continue doing better for ourselves.

One month after the holidays were over, my dad called my sister and me to tell us our mom had pancreatic cancer, and nothing could be done to cure it. Imagine how I felt, knowing that there had been something wrong with my mom, and I had not done enough to save her. We f lew back to see my parents and say goodbye to my mother. At that same moment, I had just taken a new job, and
