Celebrating 116 years

of Service To All Mankind WWW.AKAAGO1927.COM

Greetings Sorors! A New Year is upon us, filled with infinite possibilities and fresh starts! The heartbeat of AGO lies within each member of our chapter, and we are poised to make even more impact in 2024. With our mission to empower women, uplift communities, and foster sisterhood since 1927, Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter has made a significant impact in the community. As a result of our selfless acts of service, we have touched countless lives and brought hope to those in desperate need. We intend to expand our reach into underserved communities in 2024 through partnerships with local non-profit organizations. During the month of January, we will embark on a commitment to a Day of Service to Commemorate MLK DAY, which will involve registering voters and serving on community service projects. In addition, we will be observing moments of the civil rights movement through song at Angeles Mesa Presbyterian Church and at the 39th Commemorative Concert honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. The month ends with AGO’s 116th Founders' Day Church Service and Founders' Day Sisterhood Reclamation Brunch. As we celebrate both the arrival of 2024 and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's 116th Founders Day, let's raise our virtual confetti to toast a New Year!! “How we handle what’s ahead of us will be determined by what we learned from everything that’s behind us. For if we learned nothing, what’s behind us will be the same thing that’s in front of us.” Craig D. Lounsbrough In Service & Sisterhood,

Cheryl Lynn Mason

A person with agoraphobia experiences this fear in two or more of the following situations: Using public transportation Being in open spaces Being in enclosed places Standing in line or being in a crowd Being outside the home alone The individual actively avoids the situation, requires a companion or endures with intense fear or anxiety. From the Health Committee January is cervical cancer awareness month Why is Cervical health important? Screening from the age of 30 (25 years in women living with HIV) can detect cervical disease, which when treated, also prevents cervical cancer. At any age with symptoms or concerns, early detection followed by prompt quality treatment can cure cervical cancer. • Various strains of HPV play a role in causing most cervical cancer. • You can reduce your risk of developing cervical cancer by having screening tests and receiving a vaccine that protects against HPV infection. Signs and Symptoms • Vaginal bleeding after intercourse, between periods, or after menopause. • Watery, bloody vaginal discharge that may be heavy and have a foul odor. • Pelvic pain or pain during intercourse. Early Detection is Key! Imaging tests, pap tests, biopsies, screening, visual exams, and DNA testing can help diagnose. Treatment Options include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Seek immediate medical care if neck pain is associated with the following symptoms: Severe pain. Tingling, numbness, or weakness in arm, shoulder, or hands. Radiating pain. Difficulty in walking or balancing. Loss of bladder or bowel control. Fever or chills.
