Últimos Refúgios
Últimos Refúgios is a social, environmental and cultural non profit institute, created in 2006 and institutionalized in 2011. Últimos Refúgios plays an important role in preserving the remaining green areas of Espirito Santo. Following the motto “People only protect what they know exists”, Últimos Refúgios raises environmental awareness through photographic and audiovisual material recorded in preservation units. By producing photographic books, video documentaries and multimedia exhibitions, with a distinct artistic vision, we seek to gradually shift the values of society towards sustainability and promote environmental conservation. Furthermore, our mission is to increase knowledge about nature by sensitizing children through environmental programs in public schools and by sharing our material with society using social media channels. Nature Photography
Pictures have the power to change the course of history. Nature photography used as art with focus on raising awareness has been underestimated for many years. Many times in the past, photography played an important role in the moments that wrote history. Today, we experience more of these moments. Photography can be used as a tool to preserve the scarce natural resources of our planet and contribute to the survival of our own species. Our specialty is the photographic and audio-visual recording of fauna and flora, capturing the essence of our respective project regions, ranging from exploring beautiful landscapes to skittish nocturnal animals such as wild cats and their prey. We use well proven techniques, ranging from ex-hunter expert knowledge to new digital technologies, in order to capture high-quality images. The image of the ocelot on the left, which was photographed for the renowned photographer Sebasti達o Salgado, serves as an example. The photo was captured at night in the rainforest using remote photography equipment which was created by our own team.
Photographic Books
We might not all speak the same language, but we do understand images. We believe that visually well planned photographic books can inspire positive change! Últimos Refúgios is experienced in implementing editorial projects of professional quality as well as artistic and scientific value. Documentaries and Videos
“You have to understand, my dears, that the shortest distance between truth and a human being is a story.” Anthony de Mello, from “One Minute Wisdom” We use the medium video for transmitting stories in a way that photography can not. Videos have the vantage to inspire the human senses without being limited to vision, taking a message further. Exhibitions
Our pictures play an equally important scientific and artistic role. We implement exhibitions that portray the beauty of nature, using pictures that make an impression, excite and raise awareness by taking advantage of an artistic format that is widely accepted by society. Our database of quality images covers most Brazilian ecosystems. Environmental Sensitization
The Instituto Últimos Refúgios develops and implements activities in public schools, reaching children of a highly impressionable age group. Our goal is to positively influence them towards more sustainable behaviors, supporting the creation of new sustainable habits and values. Our main objective is to encourage the positive shift of values and attitudes through activities such as workshops, art exhibitions, field trips to preservation units, social media activities etc. “Never stop trying to change the world even though you will not succeed.
