Foundation

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Strategic Plan establishes a vision for its future that is unapologetically bold.

It is anchored in a strong identity and committed to ensuring that its students and community thrive. The past 25 years have demonstrated unprecedented expansion of the University’s program, services and physical footprint. THAT MOMENTUM MUST CONTINUE.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Foundation is a catalyst to ensure the University’s continued impact and expansion. The UL Lafayette Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization which holds more than $200 million in assets on behalf of the University, and provides consistent support for scholarships, faculty, students and staff.

VISION:

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Foundation is a strategic partner with the University to increase the University’s impact by advancing and supporting its imperatives.

MISSION:

The Foundation provides philanthropic support services to assist the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in furthering its mission of achieving excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service.

The Foundation’s volunteer Board of Trustees approved its strategic framework on September 17, 2021. This framework was developed by multiple board committees and task forces, and outlines four goals:

1. Enhance a best practice Foundation Board

2. Strengthen the University’s fundraising enterprise

3. Advocate for the University in Acadiana, the state and beyond

4. Diversify sustainable financial support for the University through alternate revenue streams that advance its strategic priorities

This framework represents the hopes, dreams and plans for the University’s bright future, and the strategic ways that the UL Lafayette Foundation can ensure its success.

Strategic Goals/Objectives

I. Enhance a best practice Foundation board

The Foundation Board is committed to nurturing a high-functioning and effective board. Its infrastructure and collaborations will serve both the Foundation’s and University’s priorities and opportunities for the next decade.

Objectives:

1. Implement an industry-standard board structure and operating practices to enhance the Foundation’s ability to fulfill its mission

2. Partner more effectively with the University President, senior leadership and affiliates to accomplish the University’s strategic priorities

3. Implement a Foundation talent management plan that will retain and attract the employee skill sets needed immediately and into the future

II. Strengthen the University’s fundraising enterprise

The Foundation Board will embrace its ongoing fundraising role for the University, and successfully complete its comprehensive Together campaign.

Objectives:

1. Expand donor acquisition and cultivation by continuous improvement in technology, data, resources and analytics

2. Right size and invest in staff capacity and capabilities for philanthropic growth

3. Deepen ongoing donor relationships through recognition and stewardship

4. Launch the public phase of the comprehensive campaign

In recognition of the University’s R1 designation, the Louisiana State Capitol was lighted red and white on April 12, 2022.

III. Advocate for the University in Acadiana, the state and beyond

The Foundation Board will enhance the University’s visibility, reputation and influence.

Objectives:

1. Deepen engagement and collaboration with the Alumni Association

2. Provide new resources for marketing and communications to advance Foundation priorities (e.g., fundraising, new revenue generation)

3. Partner with the University to strengthen student recruitment initiatives locally and in selected regions of the U.S.

4. Leverage board trustees’ leadership and involvement in external organizations and their communities to advance the University’s position and contributions

IV. Diversify sustainable financial support for the University through alternate revenue streams that advance its strategic priorities

The Foundation will explore, build capabilities for and generate non-philanthropic revenues for the institution through emerging new practices increasingly common within university-affiliated foundations.

Objectives:

1. Partner with the University to develop real estate opportunities that align with its strategic direction

2. Explore opportunities for public-private partnerships and implement entrepreneurial ventures and economic development research to assist in new revenue generation

3. Ensure that the Foundation has staff, consultant and partner expertise to improve its ability to grow non-philanthropic income for the institution
