Interview with Iryna Zelenina

Interviewer:

Hey there, Iryna! Let's dive right in. What motivated you and your partners to establish the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster?

Iryna Zelenina:

Hi! You know, the idea didn't just hit us out of the blue. It brewed over years of my involvement in tourism, exhibitions, and promoting Ukrainian products abroad. Seeing the common struggles faced by manufacturers, from cracking new markets to finding solid partners, made me realize the urgency for Ukrainian companies to stay ahead in the global HoReCa scene.

The COVID-19 epidemic, by delivering an immediate blow, revealed the vulnerability of the industry but also underscored the need for flexible, robust business models. Tackling these challenges demanded a united front— pooling resources, knowledge, and experiences. So, my partners and I decided it was time to build a platform for collaboration. We envisioned a space where we could collectively amp up the quality and competitiveness of Ukrainian goods and services in the HoReCa sector, while fostering innovation and elevating interactions between producers and market players.

Crucially, we aimed to bridge the gap between HoReCa producers, stakeholders, government bodies, and international partners. We wanted to create a hub where members could swap stories, learn from one another, spot growth opportunities, and collectively promote Ukrainian products on the world stage.

Interviewer:

What were the main challenges during the cluster's birth?

Iryna Zelenina:

We faced a number of difficulties. The biggest battle was getting companies to hop on board our crazy train. You see, the concept of a cluster was quite new in the Ukrainian market.

Not everyone got it immediately. Many were stuck in their silos, viewing other manufacturers as rivals rather than potential partners. So, our first mission was not just to explain the cluster’s principles but to show the real benefits of such a cooperation.

We went with communication campaigns, face-to-face meetings, and showcasing success stories from other industries and countries We needed to prove that joint forces offered more opportunities for development than going solo way. Another challenge was to organize clusters internal system: clear rules of cooperation, interaction system, mechanism for resolving possible conflicts.

This required us to have a deep understanding of not only the specifics of working in HoReCa, but also experience in managing business associations and clusters.

co-founder of the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster

Ultimately, thanks to the joint efforts of the team, confident communication with potential members, and ongoing support from the companies already involved, we were able to overcome these initial challenges and began to move forward as a united, strong community.

Interviewer:

What are the success stories of the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster so far?

Iryna Zelenina:

We're immensely proud of our achievenments. Firstly, as the Ukrainian Export Alliance, we've united over 500 companies under our "Trade with Ukraine" umbrella, showcasing our nation's capabilities and boosting our producers. It's like forming one powerful team for the international stage – the impact is incredible!

Additionally, our collective stands at major international exhibitions have been pivotal. They've not only expanded our companies' reach but also facilitated knowledge exchange, exposure to global trends, and opportunities for new contracts and partnerships.

Most importantly, we've fostered a genuine community. Our cluster isn't just about businesses; it's a supportive network where we share knowledge, ideas, and innovations, making each of us stronger together, akin to a close-knit family.

Our efforts also positively impact the Ukrainian economy, opening new markets, enhancing the global recognition of Ukrainian brands, and driving export growth. Knowing we're making a difference not only for individual companies but also for our nation fuels our determination to keep pushing forward. In essence, our achievements extend beyond numbers and projects; they embody the vibrant community we've built, which holds real value.

What's on the horizon for the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster? What are your plans?

Interviewer: Iryna Zelenina:

When it comes to our plans, we're full of energy and ambition. Firstly, we aim to widen our network of international partners, facilitating lasting connections between Ukrainian companies and the global HoReCa market. This goes beyond mere business card exchanges, focusing on fruitful, long- term collaborations.

Secondly, we're diving into digitalization. Recognizing the importance of technology, we're ensuring our participants stay ahead by developing apps, platforms, and tools to streamline operations and foster innovation in the HoReCa sector.Innovation is another key focus. It's not just about new products; it's about fresh ideas and approaches. We encourage our participants to experiment, embrace novelty, and share their achievements, fostering industry-wide growth through knowledge exchange.

Lastly, we're committed to expanding our presence in international markets. While maintaining existing ties, we're actively seeking growth opportunities in Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and Canada, spreading awareness of Ukrainian quality and hospitality worldwide.

Interviewer: Iryna Zelenina:

And finally, what would you like to wish our readers and cluster members?

To all you rockstars out there, embrace the chaos, seize the opportunities, and never underestimate the power of collaboration. Together, we're unstoppable. Let's show the world what Ukrainian hustle is all about!

Interviewer:

Thanks a lot, Iryna, for the electrifying interview. We wish the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster new achievements and confident development!

Interview with Oleksii Akimov

Journalist

Good afternoon, Oleksii! Today we have a unique opportunity to talk about the importance of marketing in promoting Ukrainian producers in the HoReCa market, both in Ukraine and abroad. Please tell us how your expertise in marketing affects the work of the cluster?

Oleksii Akimov:

Good afternoon! Well, you know, marketing is a real art, especially when it comes to such a competitive industry as HoReCa. I have more than a quarter of a century of experience in marketing, and every day I am convinced that there is no way to do anything without a proper marketing strategy.

Within the cluster, my role is not only to develop strategies but also to make our companies visible on the global stage. We analyze markets, study the needs of our potential customers and build communication on this basis.

Working on marketing in the cluster is not just a job. This is our chance to show the world what we are capable of and make Ukrainian brands recognizable and respected far beyond our country's borders. We set ourselves ambitious goals, but we have all the necessary tools and resources to achieve them .

Interviewer:

What do you think are the main advantages of marketing for Ukrainian HoReCa companies?

Oleksii Akimov: :

Well, when we talk about marketing in HoReCa, it is important to remember that it is

not just advertising or sales. It is about understanding the needs of our customers, about how to make their experience unique and memorable. And this is where marketing comes in. We analyze trends, collect feedback, and use this data to improve our products or services.

Through marketing, we can tell the story of our brand, share our philosophy and values. This is very important because today people are looking for not just a place to eat, but a place with a story, with a soul. They want to know who is behind the product, what mission we are pursuing.

Marketing is about innovation. It helps us stay one step ahead, try new approaches, experiment with promotion channels, technologies, and design. Thanks to this, we can not only meet the current needs of our customers, but also anticipate future trends. So, for us, marketing is not just a sales tool, it is a way to make our products and services more relevant to the requirements and desires of our customers, it is an opportunity to develop and grow together with our market.

co-founder of the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster

Interviewer:

What specific strategies do you use to achieve these goals?

Oleksii Akimov:

First of all, digitalization is our forte. We live in the digital age, so the use of the Internet, social media, SEO (search engine optimization) and contextual advertising allows us to reach a wide audience. We carefully analyze where our potential customers spend their time online, and that's where we catch them.

As for content, we don't just create beautiful images or text. We share stories that reflect the soul of our brands, their values, and mission. It can be a story about how the idea for a new product was born, about our attitude to the environment, or just an interesting case study. The main thing is that it should touch a nerve, evoke emotions and resonate in the hearts of our subscribers.

When we talk about international exhibitions and fairs, this is our opportunity to "shine" in front of a large audience and establish personal contacts with potential partners. This is incredibly valuable, because live communication allows us to better understand customer needs, feel the market and, of course, present our products in the best possible light.

Last but not least, we are actively working on partnership programs and collaborations. These can be joint projects with other brands, bloggers, and influencers. This approach not only expands our audience, but also increases the credibility of our brand, because a recommendation from a famous person or a trusted partner means much more than simple advertising.

Interviewer:

Oleksii:

How do you see the future of the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster? Looking at the future of the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster, I see bright horizons in front of us. We are not just on the verge of big changes, we are actively shaping them.

The first and perhaps the most important thing is our desire to expand the geography of our activities. We are not resting on our laurels and are constantly looking for new markets for our members. It is not only Europe or North America, we are looking at Asia, the Middle East, and even Africa. There are no boundaries for us, only opportunities.

This is followed by deeper cooperation with our partners. We realize that success is always a team effort.

That is why we plan not only to maintain ties with existing partners but also to actively develop new ones. We believe in the power of cooperation and exchange of experience, and this is what will allow us to move forward.

My dream is to see Ukrainian companies not just as participants in the global HoReCa market, but as its leaders, setting standards of quality, innovation, and sustainability. We have every chance to do this, because we have talented people, bold ideas and unwavering faith in ourselves.

So, the future of the Ukrainian HoReCa Cluster is a future full of opportunities, innovations and mutual support. And I am absolutely sure that together we will reach incredible heights.
