HAVE VARIETY. AND EAT IT TOO. The new Fresh Food Company is a residential all-you-care-to-eatrestaurant located in The 90 on central campus. The Fresh Food Company provides a dynamic menu filled with innovative recipes prepared in plain view. This is where many students will eat the majority of their meals. Blazer Café is a residential all-you-care-toeat restaurant on north campus. It features several interactive and dynamic stations. Both Blazer Café and The Fresh Food Company offer a variety of food with an emphasis on healthy, local (Kentucky Proud), and made-from-scratch items.

We also have new and renovated retail restaurants across campus like Chick-fil-A, Rising Roll, and Subway Cafe, coffee shops like Starbucks and Common Grounds, and convenience stores throughout campus and all restaurants accept flex dollars. Our goal is that food for our students is only a short walk away—and it’s a big campus!

LIVING LEARNING PROGRAM The Living Learning Program, or LLP, is comprised of 18 different Learning Communities and Residential Colleges. These different communities support student success by placing students with similar interests into smaller communities in particular residence halls. Students receive special programming, interactions with UK faculty and staff, and a supportive community. Students must apply and be accepted to a specific LLP, as space is limited.

EDLife Community

For any College of Education student interested in teaching.

This community offers education-related programming, site visits, mentoring, and networking opportunities; regular engagement and support from faculty and upper-class Peer Mentors; and the opportunity to contribute to the new Fayette County STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) high school, located near campus.

A connected course will be offered to provide students exposure to the world of school districts, policy, cultural environment, and teaching.

First Generation Community

For first-year students in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

The Agriculture Residential College is for first-year students pursuing a major within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment who are highly motivated and interested in becoming leaders in the local and global community. Students in the AgRC will live and learn together about the value and impact agriculture, food and the environment have on the foundation of our civilization. This community provides interaction with faculty and staff, tutoring, connected courses, industry related programming and regular engagement with upper-class Peer Mentors.

For first- and second-year students in the Gatton College of Business & Economics.

This community provides students with the opportunity to explore the multidisciplinary aspects of the business field through connected coursework, networking with business executives, and regular interactions with faculty, staff, and Peer Mentors. Students will benefit from co-curricular programming focused on leadership, community engagement, and professional development. The community seeks to inspire the “entrepreneurial spirit” in Gatton students.

CI Connect Community

For first-year students enrolled in the College of Communication and Information.

This community provides programs that highlight internships and career options in Communication and Information, strategic partnerships with professionals in the field, interaction with CI faculty and staff and on-site courses that foster interdisciplinary learning from the College of Communication and Information.

Creative Arts Residential College

For students with a strong interest in the creative and/or performing arts.

This community is for students with a strong interest or major in the creative or performing arts—from dance, music, and theatre to art studio, creative writing, design, and arts administration. The residence hall will house solo and ensemble music practice rooms, a performance studio with projection capabilities for dance, music and theatre, an art education studio and a writing studio for a truly immersive living-learning program.

First-year students will benefit from the support of Peer Mentors already engaged with the arts at UK. Faculty from the College of Fine Arts and the College of Arts and Sciences will teach connected courses that count toward the Arts and Creativity requirements of the UK Core and organize programming uniquely customized for “creative types.”

For students majoring in the College of Engineering.

This community provides a supportive learning environment that increases student engagement and prepares participants for a successful engineering/computer science academic experience. Activities include interactions with faculty and staff along with tutoring and career workshops. Students will be assigned an upper-class engineering peer mentor as well. Students will be part of a connected course titled “Success in Engineering” taught on-site in the residence hall. Students will be able to visit local industries employing UK College of Engineering graduates and attend special engineering related lectures in the residence hall.

For first-year, first-generation college students.

This community provides support and interaction with faculty and staff as well as upper-class first-generation Peer Mentors. We offer a variety of connected courses each semester. In the fall we offer: PSY 100, CIS 110, COM 252 and CHE 111; in the spring we offer: CIS 111, CHE 113 and STA 210. Our community serves as a place for first-generation students to build the bonds necessary to succeed as the first in their family to go to college.

We offer a wide-range of programming, but focus on the importance of campus and community engagement as well as helping students strengthen their academic and professional identities. Once a part of this community, you are part of the First-Generation Family for life!

Greenhouse Community

Open to any first-year student.

This community provides opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, for students to live and learn about the diverse aspects of sustainability and the environment through connected classes, group activities, and field trips. Greenhouse fosters interactions with faculty, Peer Mentors, undergraduate instructional assistants, and a graduate student. It is designed to build friendships and facilitate academic success while learning about issues and opportunities in environmental and natural resources.

Students complete one 3 credit-hour UK Core requirement over two semesters. This Residential College is a partnership between the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the College of Arts & Sciences.

Honors Community

For students who have been formally admitted into UK’s Honors program.

This community provides interaction with Honors Program faculty and staff, courses taught in on-site classrooms, and programming dedicated to supporting academically high-achieving students.

iNET Community

(Network for Entrepreneurial Thinking) For first-year students from all majors who want to become future innovators and entrepreneurial leaders.

This community is an interdisciplinary academic program that prepares students to succeed in an innovation-driven world. Students in the iNET LLP develop entrepreneurial skills and get real world experience. They connect with the iNET Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Academic Director, and a network of entrepreneurial mentors on-campus and in the local entrepreneurial community.

Interprofessional Healthcare Residential College

For first-year students interested in healthcare and returning students who have already lived in the IHRC. The IHRC is a high-impact, living-learning program designed for highlymotivated students who are passionate about healthcare. Students participate in coursework and co-curricular activities with dedicated faculty, staff, and Peer Mentors. Examples of co-curricular activities include interprofessional healthcare lectures and panel discussions as well as professionalism and community-service opportunities tailored specifically for healthcare students. The IHRC is an active collaboration among nine UK colleges* and is open to any major. Connected courses include the following: HHS 101 (Survey of the Health Professions), CIS (Composition and Communication) 110, 111, and 112 for healthcare students, and UK 101 for healthcare students.

Location: Woodland Glen V *UK Partner Colleges include the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Health Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Social Work, Communication & Information, and Agriculture, Food, & Environment.

Kinesiology and Health Promotion Community

For any student interested in pursuing careers within the fields of kinesiology and health promotion.

This community provides social and professional activities with KHP peers and faculty, connected courses taught in-hall, engagement with upper-class Peer Mentors, and programming dedicated to professional development, networking, and community-building. Students will gain experience leading and teaching others to live healthy lives.

LEXengaged Community

Open to any first-year student.

This community focuses on Engagement, Service Learning and Social Justice. As a member of LEXengaged, you will be introduced to ideas, concepts and notions of civic engagement. You will consider the opportunities and the obstacles which enhance and impede community involvement. Come assess your own prospects for being an active citizen, and see how civic engagement can be applied to your day-to-day life. Through course readings, discussions, guest speakers, and off-campus tours, you will obtain an understanding of the larger community here in Lexington. In grasping the multifaceted character of Lexington, you will leave LEXengaged able to encounter any American city as an involved community member. Students complete one 3 credit-hour UK Core class each semester. This Residential College is a partnership between the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the College of Arts & Sciences.

R.O.T.C. Community

For cadets wanting to enhance their ROTC Leadership training.

This community provides interaction with fellow cadets, mentors, and leaders. Cadets will participate in physical training and social opportunities, share common courses, and have regular engagement with upper-class Peer Mentors.

STEMCats

Open to any first-year student interested in a STEM major.

STEMCats is designed to teach students about careers and research within the endless possibilities of the STEM disciplines and exposes them to research opportunities as a freshman. Students in STEMCats attend the FastTrack* program, arriving on campus a week before UK officially opens. FastTrack gives them an early start in math, biology, and chemistry classes, building confidence in their academic preparation as a first-year student. Upper-class STEM majors serve as mentors throughout the year. STEMCats participants will present their research in April through UK’s Showcase of Undergraduate Research. STEMCats delivers a unique beginning for students interested in a STEM major.

This Residential College is offered by the College of Arts & Sciences.

Location: Woodland Glen IV *FastTrack costs $99 plus housing and meals.

Transfer Community

For students transferring to the University of Kentucky from another 2-year or 4-year college.

This community will assist transfer students in making a successful transition to UK. The goal of this community is to help transfer students become more integrated into the academic and social community at UK. Students in this community will have regular interactions with faculty both inside and outside the classroom, receive support from upper-class Peer Mentors, and receive tutoring in the residence hall for UK core classes.

Wellness Community

For first-year students interested in maintaining healthy, well-rounded lifestyles.

This community will receive targeted program opportunities to address each of the six domains of wellness: Physical, Intellectual, Spiritual, Emotional, Social, and Vocational wellbeing. Community members will also have the opportunity to participate in RecFit, a 30-hour hands-on instructional program that will prepare students to sit for either the American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer or Group Fitness exam.

Wired Residential College

For first-year students and returning WIRED students.

WIRED is your connection to rich experiences and interdisciplinary opportunities. Students in this community will receive an iPad and will interact with a diverse and talented community with a proven track record of producing competitive GPAs and on-time graduation in four years. WIRED offers small class sizes in connected courses as well as supportive Peer Mentors. Link to everything at UK and in Lexington—find your focus, become a multi-modal scholar, engage your imagination, interact with faculty, and find yourself having a lot of fun! Get connected. Get Wired! This Residential College is a partnership between the College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Fine Arts and accepts returning students.
