P&O Cruises’ Britannia and Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas, both of which launch in spring, will be joined by Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess making her first return to the UK since her naming by the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Selling Cruise Conference will take place on Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Saturday 23 May in Southampton. The event is designed for customer facing travel professionals and will feature a trade fair, conference sessions on board each of the ships and networking opportunities.

MSC Cruises Has Begun The Roll-out Of Its New Travel Agent Booking Platform, MSC Book

Developed and built in-house over the last 18 months, the new system is being soft launched over the coming month. Five cruise specialist retailers – Barrhead Travel, Cruise.co.uk, Cruise 1st, Iglu and Cruise Nation – will be the first to gain access, with more agencies going live each week during September.

The new system has been designed to make it easier for agents to book MSC Cruises’ itineraries and associated products – and is another example of the company’s drive to work more closely with its agent partners, following the launch of its ‘Serving You’ initiative in July.

A cleaner graphics-led interface leads users through a simpler booking path, allowing them to book flights, choose cabin type, onboard Experience level (Bella, Fantastica, Aurea and MSC Yacht Club) and dining options, as well as secure extras such as excursions and spa treatments.

MSC Book additionally acts as a complete resource centre for the trade, containing comprehensive information about MSC Cruises’ ships, itineraries, ports of call, excursions and latest promotions. Agents can compare potential cruise options for customers and use it to email quotes and booking confirmations. The system also allows users to view potential commission earned on each package.

MSC Cruises Executive Director UK and Ireland Giles Hawke, said: “We promised the new booking system when we launched our ‘Serving You’ programme and we have delivered it as planned.

“Agents very often say that booking cruises is a time-consuming and complicated process, so we have invested in making it as easy as possible. MSC Book should be a real boon to agents familiar to MSC Cruises as well as a great tool for attracting new retailers.”

Versions of MSC Book will be introduced simultaneously in France, Italy and Germany and will eventually replace MSC Cruises’ existing trade booking portal MSC Online, which will be switched off in the UK in November.

Into 2015 With An Unrivalled River Cruise Fleet

AmaWaterways moves into 2015 with the accolade of having the best fleet on Europe’s rivers, according to the Berlitz: River Cruising in Europe travel guide. The company was the only cruise line to receive a four star-plus rating in the 2014 guide, taking all 11 of the guide’s top spots, with the AmaPrima rated as Europe’s top river cruise ship, scoring the highest compared with 280 other vessels.

AmaWaterways’ innovations for 2015 includes sailings on the Ayeyarwady in Myanmar on board the new AmaPura which launches in November 2014. Silversea Unveils Expansive 2016 Voyage Collection From Aberdeen to Zadar, eight intimate ships will showcase 845 destinations (including 107 new ports) on 272 voyages across seven continents For travellers seeking exclusive journeys to landmark destinations as well as the world’s most exotic lands, tiny isles, and less-travelled waterways, Silversea is offering an unprecedented array of voyage options in 2016, all available for reservation today.

Visit Santo Domingo which was founded by Bartholomew Columbus shortly after his brother, Christopher, had discovered Hispaniola in 1492. The city’s status as the earliest European settlement in the Americas is amply evidenced by the many 16th-century buildings in its Zona Colonial. Must-sees include the former viceregal residence of Alcázar de Colón, Ozama Fortress and Santa Maria La Menor Cathedral. The modern Faro de Colón lighthouse and museum is a monument to the great explorer.

Explore La Romana, to experience some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches. Relax on the tropical hideaway of Saona Island or take to the Caribbean Sea by snorkel, sail, or kayak. Comb the cobblestoned streets of a recreated medieval village Altos de Chavón to hunt for craft treasures and handmade pottery from the artists themselves.

While staying in La Romana one should visit the nearby Los Tres Ojos, or The Three Eyes. This trio of lakes in opentopped limestone caverns can be explored on guided boat trips.

The major Dominican seaports are in Santo Domingo, La Romana and Samaná, but 2015 will see the opening of the Caribbean’s newest destination, Amber Cove Cruise Centre, located on the Bay of Maimon near Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic’s North Coast. The new two-berth Amber Cove Cruise Centre will be able to accommodate up to 8,000 cruise passengers and 2,000 crew members daily.

Flight time is just over nine hours, making Seattle the closest West Coast city from the UK. Delta Airlines has started a direct daily service from London Heathrow in April 2014. The other direct route is with British Airways, running 10 times a week with daily departures. Alternatively, fly to Seattle with Icelandair via Reykjavic or KLM via Amsterdam.

With more and more visitors heading to the Pacific Northwest and particularly between May and September, Seattle’s cruise center, new hotels are being introduced in the city.

Kimpton’s fourth boutique hotel is the Palladian situated in the hip area of Belltown and will open in December 2014 while luxurious Motif Seattle hotel offers 319 guest rooms and 10 suites with sweeping views of Seattle’s Downtown, the waterfront and the Olympic Mountains. U.S.-based Tauck River Cruising is making a major splash in the U.K. this year by dramatically increasing our sales and marketing presence, by adding new itineraries and riverboats to our portfolio, and by garnering continued recognition for the quality of our offerings.

Shearings’ 2015 River Cruise programme is packed full of wonderful river cruises, with 19 new itineraries. This year also sees the addition of a new vessel, the MS Princess to our range of six exclusively chartered ships.
