Going Above and Beyond: Guardianship’s Critical Role in Student Wellbeing
At UM Education, we understand that studying abroad is a significant step for many young students and are committed to ensuring they have all the support they need. A prime example relates to a challenging moment for Ada, a student from China, who experienced homesickness after returning from her holiday break.
Ada’s transition back to school in the UK was difficult. She dearly missed her family, was the only Chinese native at the school, and contemplated returning to China. Recognising the seriousness of her situation, we took immediate action. We engaged in extensive discussions with her parents and liaised closely with the headmaster of her school, ensuring a unified approach to Ada’s welfare.

But we didn’t stop there. We travelled to her school to meet Ada in person and spoke to her to see if there were things that could be done in the short term to make her feel more supported when at school. This direct intervention provided her with much-needed moral support and a tangible sense of care from our team. Our visit was a turning point for Ada, helping her feel understood and supported in her journey.
Thanks to these efforts, Ada readjusted to her school environment and rediscovered her happiness in the UK. Her parents expressed immense gratitude for our involvement, noting, “UM’s support for Ada was superb, they provided family-like care that turned a challenging situation into a success story.”
As all good guardianship companies, at UM Education, we believe in going the extra mile for our students, ensuring their overseas education journey is as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible.
