CATS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT 1985-86

Overall Record: 18-11 NCAA Midwest Region • Des Moines, Iowa 1st • Drake 73, Kentucky 70 • The 1985-86 team, led by Coach Terry Hall, defeated four Top 20 teams en route to the NCAA Tournament. • The Cats lost a three-point heartbreaker despite a career-high 24 points and 10 assists from junior Sandy Harding. Drake hit 9-of-16 free throws compared to UK’s 0-of-1.

1982-83

Overall Record: 23-5 NCAA Mideast Region • Lexington, Ky. 1st • Indiana 87, Kentucky 76 • The Wildcats were ranked as high as No. 4 nationally during the 1982-83 season but were upset by Indiana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. • All-American Valerie Still had 28 points and 13 rebounds but the Wildcats couldn’t overcome the hot-shooting Hoosiers. IU shot 64.6 percent for the game, including 82.4 percent (14-of-17) in the second half. Three IU players scored over 20 points. • Coach Terry Hall led the Lady Kats to their finest season ever, a 24-8 campaign that ended in the Midwest Regional championship, where UK fell to No. 1-ranked and eventual national champion Louisiana Tech on the Lady Techsters’ home floor. • By the end of the season, UK was playing so well that Hall proclaimed, “If we had been in any other region, we would have been in the Final Four.”
