GOLDA JOHANSSON BORST Golda Johansson Borst enters her fifth season as the head coach of the women’s golf team following a fourth consecutive postseason appearance and another record breaking performance by KWG. UK’s 2014 NCAA Tournament bid tied the program’s longest NCAA Tournament streak in school history and marked the first time since 1995-98 the Wildcats made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Borst hit the ground running in her first year in 2010-11 and hasn’t looked back. For the second straight year, Borst’s squad broke the program season scoring average, this time smashing the mark by 4.97 strokes, which was previously set in 2012-13. Kentucky brought home a first-place finish in the very first tournament of the season, the “MO”Morial Invitational. For the season, UK finished with four top-five finishes, while firing three of the top five lowest rounds in program history. In four years as the Kentucky coach, Borst has continued on the path of taking the program to new heights. UK has improved its scoring average each season under Borst while claiming 23 top 10 finishes and 40 top 20 finishes. Under the guidance of Borst, seven Wildcats recorded 11 scoring averages that place in the top-15 in program history, three of which (Liz Breed-73.89, Haley Mills-74.04, Sarah Harris-74.74) finished the 2013-14 season with the three lowest scoring averages in program history, breaking Ashleigh Albrecht’s average of 75.07, set in the 2012-13 season. Additionally under Borst, five Wildcats own eight of the top 10 marks for most par or better rounds. Her second season as head coach, saw the Wildcats post a then-program best scoring average of 304.73. In just her first season, the Wildcats recorded their second and third lowest rounds in program history, shooting a 287 in the first round of the UCF Challenge, and a 288 in the third round of

the Cougar Classic. Kentucky’s scoring average of 306.30 was, at the time, the second best mark in program history; now fifth in program history as the 2011-12 posted the lowest at 304.73. As a team, the Wildcats finished in the top 10 in half of the tournaments they played in. Borst joined the Wildcats from LSU where she served as assistant women’s golf coach from 2007-10. During her stay in Baton Rouge, La., LSU advanced to the NCAA regionals each of Borst’s three seasons, highlighted by a 12th-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Championship. With Borst, the Tigers recorded a 295.40 team-stroke average during 2009, improving upon the 300.40 posted in 2008. The 2009 season also saw LSU victories at the Bryan Park National Collegiate and Mercedes-Benz Championship, as well as two individual titles. During 2010, LSU earned an individual title while registering a 298.00 stroke average. A four-year letterwinner for the women’s golf team, Borst graduated from Tennessee in 2006 with a degree in communication studies. At Tennessee, Borst served as team captain in 2005

and finished with a 76.19 stroke average. Additionally, Borst earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2006 and was named a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member. Borst’s top collegiate finishes came when she placed second in both the 2005 Bryan Park National Collegiate and 2006 Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. Borst and the Lady Volunteers advanced to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship during the 2004-06 seasons. A native of Visby, Sweden, Borst competed for the Swedish National Golf Team from 1999-2003. With Borst, the team claimed medalist honors at the Girls Team European Championship in 2000, second at the Lady’s Team European Championship in 2001 and third in the Lady’s Team European Championship in 2002. Prior to coaching at LSU, Borst worked at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Sarasota, Fla., assisting in course and tournament operations. Borst, formerly Golda Johansson, is married to Steve Borst.
