ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK 2012 WHAT IS IT? Students will traverse the Mississippi River both on foot and in boats while working with the Living Lands & Waters (LL&W) crew and other college students to remove debris (tires, appliances, barrels, etc.) that is polluting our rivers and impairing the habitat of indigenous fish, birds, and wildlife.
WHERE & WHEN: There are three separate ASB events, all taking place in Memphis, TN. Students will work with the crew Monday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm. The dates of the ASB events are as follows: Sunday, February 26th to Friday, March 2th Sunday, March 4th to Friday, March 9th Sunday, March 11th to Friday, March 16th HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? • Transportation: Students are responsible for expenses associated with travel. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to and from Memphis, TN as well as to and from the boat launch each day. • Food: Students are responsible for dinner Monday through Thursday. LL&W will provide lunch Monday through Thursday, as well as dinner on Sunday. The hotel will provide complimentary breakfast Monday through Friday. • Lodging: LL&W has worked out a contract with a local hotel to get the best deal possible. Students will pay for their hotel when they register online to participate in ASB. The cost of lodging will be $110 for the week. • Budget: At most, the trip is expected to cost about $208 (based on: Food=$40; Lodging=$110; Parking=$8; Chip in on Fuel=$50). SPOTLIGHT: ECONOMICS CLUB VISITS CHICAGO A special thank you to Dr. Shawn P. Daly for assisting the UIW Economics Club in attending the ASSA National Conference in Chicago.
