CARDINAL FALL PREVIEW

fThe Office of Admissions will host the Fall Preview Day (Open House) on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 11:30 a. m. to 3:00 p.m. Presentations will be made in the Fine Arts Auditorium, followed by a student discussion panel. The purpose of this program is to give prospective students and parents an opportunity to visit our campus and speak with faculty and administrators. As in previous years, one of the most important aspects of Preview Day (Open House) is the Administrative and Academic Fair where the participation of all academic departments, support services and student organizations is critical. Each department will have a table where representatives can promote their respective programs. Please note: The Academic Fair will take place in the McDermott Convocation Center and will begin at 12:45 p.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. We ask that each table be manned by 12:30 p.m. Please send me an email by October 19, 2011 with the names of the representatives manning your table and let me know if you need any audiovisual equipment. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at ext: 1242 or by email at hrodrig1@uiwtx.edu. Heather Rodriguez

Help Us Keep Kids In School!

WE NEED YOU! Many students lack the one-on-one relationship with a caring adult that can help them overcome obstacles they are facing to staying in school and graduating. Share your time with a young person in your community!

How Can I Help? • • • •

Mentor a student at a local middle school. Flexible scheduling-before, after, or during school For as little as 45 minutes a week, you can change a life Encourage your family, friends and co-workers to get involved too!

What is Mentoring? Mentoring involves sharing your time and knowledge to support your mentee. You can play games, read or color together, play one-on-one basketball, or just hang out and talk. Mentoring is about building relationships, to empower a student to succeed in school and life.

Who Will I Mentor? You will be matched with an 8th grader in one of 14 San Antonio ISD middle schools.

How Will I be supported? • • •

You will be given training to the mentoring process and an orientation to the school of your mentee. You will be carefully matched with a student. Our CIS-SA Case Manager, who is based at the school and very familiar with your mentee, will be available to answer questions and provide support.
