OVERVIEW Welcome to the University of Iowa Recreational Services! With a mission to provide diverse recreational experiences that encourage active lifestyles, we are your destination for recreation. Open to the community, Recreational Services offers a variety of membership options including daily, monthly, and annual memberships. Rates vary based on affiliation with the university.

Through a partnership with UI Wellness, University of Iowa faculty and staff are eligible to earn a 50% incentive toward their membership! To qualify you must:

The Lifetime Leisure Skills (LLS) department offers classes for academic credit through a unique partnership between Recreational Services and the University College. These courses are designed to engage students in fun and healthy recreational activities that can be continued beyond college and throughout their lives. AQUATICS

AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATION COURSES Certification courses equip you with essential lifesaving skills. Classes offered through our program include: • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid (Blended Learning) • Lifeguarding • Lifeguarding Review • Lifeguarding Instructor • Water Safety Instructor

IOWA FLYERS SWIM CLUB The Recreational Services aquatics program operates out of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center as well as the Field House. Lap swimming is available in our Natatorium, Diving Well and Field House Pool. Recreational swimming is available in our Rec Pool. Our pools also are home to a number of special events including Iowa Hawkeye Swimming and Diving competitions, and club swimming meets,

The Iowa Flyers Swim Club (IFLY) is open to students, faculty, staff and community members ages 7 years and older. The club welcomes all competitive skill levels. There are three levels offered in the IFLY program: • General: competition locally, regionally • Performance: competition locally, regionally, and nationally • Masters: anyone 18 years or older seeking aerobic activity and/or improvement in their swimming skills

SWIM LESSONS

It’s never too early (or late) to learn how to swim! We offer youth and adult swimming lessons for all levels in a group or private setting. Swimming lessons are designed for those 6 months old up to adults. Join us each semester in the pool to improve your ability to swim. FITNESS

PERSONAL TRAINING

Personal training is a great option for those who desire a custom plan based on your goals and abilities. When you work with one of our nationally certified personal trainers, you’ll receive education, guidance and motivation along your fitness journey. Sessions can be offered in any of our buildings and can be provided in a one-on-one or two-on-one session. Regardless of your age, ability, or fitness level, we have a personal training option for you!

Organized fitness programming is available in a group or private setting. Join us in person or virtually to grow your fitness knowledge.

GROUP FITNESS

Recreational Services offers classes to meet a variety of members’ fitness goals from cardio inspired dance classes to calming, meditative yoga classes. With six different studios and virtual offerings catering to diverse schedules, it’s easy for you to get in cardio, strength and flexibility workouts. Fitness classes are designed to make your fitness goals easily attainable by giving you a fun and energizing workout.

Interested in hosting a group fitness class for your group or organization? Hire a Recreational Services instructor! • Group sizes can range from 10-100 • On-site or off-site options available • Multiple class formats to choose from

SPECIALTY FITNESS PROGRAMS

Specialty fitness programs are designed to provide participants with unique, elevated fitness experiences. We offer everything from advanced group training sessions to fitness competitions.

SPORT CLUBS

Sport clubs are for athletes in search of a higher level of competition. Participants practice, play and/or compete against other colleges/ university teams. As registered student organizations, each sport club is student-run and provides participants the opportunity to compete through hosting or traveling to events.

HUSTLING HAWKEYES YOUTH CAMPS

Designed for children ages 7-12, Hustling Hawkeyes Youth Camps are a great way to stay active in the summer while discovering new talents and connecting with other campers. Camps are co-ed and open to all skill levels. Each week will cover instruction on a variety of topics and participation in several different sports and activities.

SPORT PROGRAMS Our sport programs are designed for those looking for organized play. Participants can come to learn a sport and enjoy competing against the University of Iowa community or nationally.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS Intramural sports offer both informal play and competitive experiences for University of Iowa students, faculty, staff, and active Recreational Services members. While there are many free events available, most formal leagues and tournaments require an intramural sports membership to participate. Examples include basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer and so much more.

ROWING Headquartered at the P. Sue Beckwith, M.D., Boathouse on the Iowa River in Terrell Mill Park, the rowing program is designed to teach and promote the sport of rowing both on campus and in the Iowa City and surrounding areas. We believe the sport of rowing provides a unique opportunity to encourage personal growth through teamwork and physical fitness. Programs are designed for every skill level and are available to participants ages 12 and up. Programs and events include: • Adaptive Rowing

Our tennis program is housed at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC), which has eight indoor and twelve outdoor tennis courts. The tennis program hosts clinics, camps, leagues and lessons starting as young as 4 years old. All ability levels are encouraged to play!

FACILITIES

FIELD HOUSE

The department of Recreational Services has facilities conveniently located throughout campus. From four indoor facilities to multiple outdoor spaces, we have a variety of options to meet our patron’s needs.

CAMPUS RECREATION AND WELLNESS CENTER

The Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) opened during the summer of 2010. Located on the east side of campus, this facility is well loved by our patrons, bringing in over 850,000 visits annually. This state-of-the-art facility is 215,000 square feet and includes: • 20,000 square feet of cardio and weight space • 52-½ foot climbing wall with attached bouldering wall • 50-meter competitive swimming pool, recreation pool with spa, current channel and climbing wall • 1/9-mile jogging track • Three group fitness activity rooms • Two basketball/volleyball courts • One multi-activity gym

FIELD HOUSE

The Field House originally opened in 1927 and is still a great space for recreation. The Field House boasts 334,000 square feet of fitness, activity and classroom space. The Field House hosts drop-in activities, sport and fitness programs, academic courses, athletics practices and large-scale community events. The Field House amenities include: • Fitness loft with weight and cardio equipment • Eight courts for basketball and volleyball • Six multi-activity rooms

• 16 racquetball courts and two squash courts • Five courts for pickleball and badminton • Cycling and mind/body studios

• Olympic weightlifting and boxing rooms • Indoor rowing room • Indoor track for walking and jogging • Swimming pool

LAGOON SHELTER HOUSE

The Lagoon Shelter House, one of the University of Iowa’s historical buildings, is our hub for adventure recreation programming. Join us for a bonfire or set up a hammock and relax by the river.

HAWKEYE TENNIS AND RECREATION COMPLEX

The Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC) has been consistently recognized as a top tennis facility in the state and region since opening in 2006. The facility hosts our tennis program, intramural sports and sport club practices and competitions, intercollegiate athletics, as well as community groups. The facility includes:

FITNESS EAST

Fitness East is a 2,500 square foot facility with a variety of strength and cardio equipment. Located in the heart of campus, this hidden gem is a great location for a workout.

HAWKEYE RECREATION FIELDS

The Hawkeye Recreation Fields are nestled on the west side of campus near the HTRC. Here you will find six synthetic turf fields, six natural grass fields, and four sand volleyball courts. The Hawkeye Recreation Fields host a wide variety of intramural sports, sport clubs and summer community programs. They are available for both drop-in use and by advanced reservation.

The Hawkeye Softball Complex consists of three recreational softball fields and one women’s intercollegiate field. The facility is utilized by intramural sports, sport clubs and group reservations from April through October each year.
