Biomedical Engineering Biomedical engineers work to improve human health through the analysis and design of medical devices, processes, and systems, by the discovery of new knowledge. Graduates of the program can pursue a wide range of career opportunities, such as an engineer in industry, as a researcher in a government

Electrical Engineering The electrical engineering program provides students training and understanding of hardware and software, ranging from device physics to medical imaging, electronics, embedded systems, communication, and control-systems engineering. Students may opt to specialize in one of 24 focus areas.

Environmental Engineering Environmental engineers design systems that support the well-being of people and the planet. They improve countless lives by providing a clean and safe water supply; treating pollution in air, water, and soil; and developing sustainable solutions for future generations.

Industrial and Systems Engineering Industrial and systems engineers use advanced mathematics and statistics, psychology, and systems theory to make processes, machines, and organizations operate more efficiently. They are frequently key players in planning and implementing large-scale changes.

Mechanical Engineering Mechanical engineers are involved in the design, analysis, manufacture, and testing of devices and machines that are essential to modern society. A broad education in mechanical and thermal science and advanced mathematics gives mechanical engineers the expertise to contribute to a wide range of industries and technologies.

The Corn Monument, an annual University of Iowa tradition dating back to 1919, is built by the UI chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Hawkeyes from around the country gather during Homecoming to celebrate their time as students and appreciate the work that current undergraduates put into the monument.
