NOW ON THE ROADS IN RURAL IOWA A project for safer and more accessible rural roads with the use of automated driving systems (ADS) Thanks to a $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and officially launched in October 2021, this demonstration project uses a custom, partially-automated Ford Transit shuttle bus on rural roads. We are now driving a 47-mile route and collecting data on automation performance, weather and surface data, and data from our riders on their trust and acceptance of the technology. In the fall of 2021, we completed the first phase of data collection. A total of 80 drives will take place over the next two years. During each phase, the automation will be enhanced to become more sophisticated and add more functionality.
