PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Healthcare is a multifaceted industry facing significant challenges and the need to transform itself. Those who wish to lead in this changing environment must acquire broad knowledge and develop skills applied to the industry’s unique characteristics in order to pursue the quadruple aim of enhanced quality, reduced cost, improved population health, and clinician engagement.

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Executive Master of Healthcare Administration (EMHA) program brings together experienced clinicians and mid-level administrators in an interprofessional, cohort, team-based, educational model. Students will emerge from the program ready to assume the executive responsibilities of leading tomorrow’s healthcare organizations.

A CAHME ACCREDITED EXECUTIVE MHA PROGRAM

The UIC EMHA program is the only executive program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Management Education (CAHME) in the Chicago area. Beyond MBA programs that provide an understanding of business disciplines in the for-profit sector, the UIC EMHA program emphasizes how this knowledge is explicitly applied in the healthcare setting to improve patient care management and delivery.

DESIGNED FOR THE FUTURE LEADERS IN HEALTHCARE

The UIC EMHA program is designed for both clinicians and executives who work in the healthcare sector including healthcare systems, governmental agencies, consulting companies, and health insurance. FOCUSED ON INTERPROFESSIONAL LEARNING

New students begin in the Fall semester and the program utilizes a cohort educational model. The blend of clinician and executive leaders within the cohort allows our students to engage in inter-professional learning and gain the perspective of how different professions view healthcare issues in our society and how best to develop collaborative solutions.

The two years, 48 credit hour program is a hybrid learning model with fourweekend sessions and synchronous online classes during each of the four semesters.

CAPSTONE The capstone process creates a structured framework for students to produce a professional analysis of a significant organizational challenge or opportunity facing the student's healthcare organization.

This comprehensive analysis assesses both challenges and opportunities for the healthcare organization and optimally leads to conclusive decisions on a major programmatic, operational, financial, or policy initiative developed by the student.
