UIC Orchestra – Neither Doors nor Windows
Friday, March 4, 7:30 pm, UIC Theater
There is a Zen koan that goes: “Leave your room neither through your door nor through your window.” As we look back at two years of life lived mostly at home, it seems wise to ask: how does one escape one’s circumstances when physical escape is not possible? This UIC Orchestra program explores this riddle and ponders the notion of music and the arts as a meaningful escape. From the German court of Bach (“Brandenburg” Concerto no. 3) and Mozart (Symphony no. 25), to the Czech countryside evoked in Janáček’s Idyll, to the dance halls of Piazzolla’s Argentina, to the Russian theatre for which Shostakovich wrote so cheekily, join us for a thrilling journey to other worlds.
