Ifirmlybelieveourissuesgetbetterandbettereachgo-round,andthisissue is no different! Well; there is a little difference, if you’re paying attention. We do a large number of cover stories here; still an issue, but much smaller in size. This time, we’re giving you a full issue. We’re bringing several amazing stories and articles in this special issue. Most exciting about this issue is we have 4 amazing covers. We present to you; Kat Kwueen, James Johnson, Kenny Kas Flanagan, and KimaXMarie! While each cover packs an amazing storybehindit,we’rethrilledtobringKennyandKimaXMarietotheUGDfold Kenny Kas Flanagan has worked miracles in the fashion world, and KimaXMarie is building on a family legacy that has been marked in gold. We’reexcitedthey’vechosentoridethisjourneywithus, asitspeaksdirectly tothevoiceswehavenotonlyinthecommunity, butthecultureasawhole
KimaXMarie definitely has her work cut out for her, but she has not let the challenge stop her The legacy before herisquitestrong, withhermomhaving been 1/3 of platinum R&B group Total, and her aunt Vita being a strong force behindthelegacyofMurderInc.Records. Her superpower is that she has a gift strong enough to carry on the legacy withouthavingtoleanonthesuccessof herpredecessors.
Editor-in-Chief

Kenny KAS Flanagan has built a name and a level of strength and power behind that name which can’t be duplicated. Unlike many; he found a way to infiltrate while working together with his would-be competitors and that skill allowed him to progress in ways unimaginable. We’re thrilled to give readers an opportunity to learn more about his journey.
In our issues, we drive with a focus of celebrating those being featured, but it’s also very much about celebrating ourselves. Sure; it’s never done in arrogance, but as we push to those around us, you should always be proud of what you do, and celebrate that in a way that it can help others, even if that simply means giving them the “ok” to celebrate themselves. We’re doing some pretty amazing things here at U.g. Digital Magazine, and U.G. Digital Media & Publishings as a whole. Kat Kwueen has shown what it truly means to be fearless and go for your dreams, even at times when it seems the world is against you. While she is never one to complain, it still must be noted that she has not had it the easiest in her own journey. Her feature will touch greatly upon that journey, while digging into the many things she’s working on and bringing to the company. Her star power has risen tremendously over the past two years; and still, this is only the beginning.
…and what is there to be said for James? He’s been building U.G. Digital Media & Publishings since 2014, and the company has grown in so many ways. What was originally a magazine at most, has become a full scale media company, with divisions for radio, podcasting, public relations, and more. His process was not quite like that of others in this arena. As one who’s constantly brainstorming on ideas, he compiled all of his brain-children into one bucket, and began to build them all one-by-one. Literally, projects are coming to light in this very moment that have been on the table for several years. A few others have seeped through the cracks in the process; which certainly was fine, because they all added to the grand scene. In essence, James has built a mega-brand that centers completely around all he loves about the media world. He always dreamed of working for himself, and that now has become a reality on all fronts. In his story, you’ll get that, plus you’ll get a first hand look at what’s to come under the brand.
We truly hope you love and enjoy their stories!

Building A Fashion
Legacy That Shapes
Generations

For more than three decades, Kenny Kas has been a force in the world of fashion. Known for his unapologetic creativity and bold approach to design, Kas has not only built a name for himself but also laid a foundation that continues to inspire and open doors for countless others. His journey is one of resilience, innovation, and an unwavering belief in the power of fashion to transform lives
From the very beginning, Kas approached the industry with the mindset of an architect Rather than simply creating clothing, he set out to build an infrastructure within fashion a system of tools, resources, and opportunities that would last beyond the life of any one collection.
He studied the business as carefully as he studied the craft, learning how to leverage resources, relationships, and even competition to his advantage. While many designers focused solely on the runway, Kas was quietly building a blueprint for sustainability and growth. This foresight has allowed him not only to thrive personally but also to cement his place as one of fashion’s enduring visionaries.
Over the years, Kas has introduced multiple lines, each one a reflection of his evolving artistry and vision:
Early Labels: His debut collections established his name as one unafraid to take risks Combining sharp tailoring with bold statements, his work carved out a space in high fashion where individuality was the focus.
Couture Signatures: His couture pieces became synonymous with red carpets and magazine covers, elevating him to the ranks of celebrity designers and giving his artistry global visibility
Welcome Black Collection: His most recent work, unveiled in September 2025, is a manifesto of pride, heritage, and resilience. Crafted with rich fabrics and daring silhouettes, Welcome Black is less about blending in and more about commanding attention
WET (With Exceptional Taste): Alongside Welcome Black, Kas launched WET, a genderless line built on attitude, confidence, and energy Designed for liberation and inclusion, it reflects his belief that fashion is culture, not just clothing.
Kenny Kas’s designs have graced some of the biggest names in entertainment He has dressed Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, Toni Braxton, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Nelly & Ashanti, Kevin Hart, and Sherri Shepherd, among many others. These collaborations weren’t simply business transactions they were creative unions where Kas’s artistry amplified the natural presence of each star
These iconic looks have secured his place in pop culture, transforming garments into timeless images remembered long after the red carpets have been rolled away
In his recent feature on Transcending The Culture, Kas reflected on his journey, his latest collections, and his duty to the culture at large Speaking candidly, he shared how fashion can empower, uplift, and dismantle barriers, reminding audiences that his work is not only about fabric but about freedom.
Kenny Kas is more than a designer he is a visionary His garments may command attention, but his true legacy lies in the way he continues to push boundaries, celebrate culture, and redefine luxury. By dressing icons and fearlessly setting new standards, he has ensured that his impact will be felt for generations to come
Fashion is his medium Empowerment is his message And as his story continues to unfold, one thing remains certain: Kenny Kas hasn’t just carved out a lane he has built a road for others to travel

The Origins: Urban Connectionz Online (2003 – 2011)
The journey of U.G. Digital Media & Publishings began in Cleveland, Ohio, with the creation of Urban Connectionz Online in 2003 by founder James Johnson. At a time when digital publishing was still uncharted, Urban Connectionz made history as the first of its kind in Cleveland, pioneering an online-only magazine long before digital platforms became mainstream.
Urban Connectionz built its reputation on a unique promise: to spotlight celebrities, entrepreneurs, and changemakers from a positive perspective. Readers connected deeply with its stories, often finding themselves reflected in the journeys of their favorite stars. By 2011, the platform had become a strong leader in independent digital media, but with shifting technology and growing demands, it paused operations—setting the stage for something bigger.
In 2013, Johnson reintroduced his vision through U.G. Digital Magazine, transforming the foundation laid by Urban Connectionz into a sharper, more expansive platform. Once again, Cleveland was home to a first: the city’s first full-scale digital magazine of its kind. The debut issue featured Angela Robinson, star of Tyler Perry’s The Haves and The Have Nots, on the cover—a symbolic choice that reinforced U.G. Digital’s commitment to artistry, excellence, and cultural relevance. From the start, Johnson was meticulous in curation, ensuring that every feature celebrated voices feeding positively into their communities while inspiring readers to see connections between their lives and the lives of celebrities.
Publishing at this level was not without challenges. As one of the first independent magazines to embrace digital media fully, U.G. Digital weathered the ups and downs of sustaining readership, adapting to new technologies, and competing with larger outlets. Yet resilience and vision carried it forward.

Growth Into a Multimedia Company Today, U.G. Digital has expanded into a full-fledged multimedia empire, encompassing magazines, radio, podcasting, and management:
J-Rock Management & Publicity: Providing artists, authors, and entrepreneurs with publicity campaigns, branding strategies, and management services.
U.G. Digital Podcasting & Radio: A home for authentic conversations, entertainment, and cultural commentary.
Kulture Krave Magazine: A new branded digital magazine, led by partner Kat Kwueen, that drives U.G. Digital boldly into the gossip scene and the inner workings of pop culture.
Scribe’s Block: A new non-profit organization created to provide opportunities for inner-city youth to learn independent media and journalism. Through free, grant-funded programs, participants gain access to courses on magazine writing, podcasting, red carpet coverage, and more.
As U.G. Digital’s influence grew, so did its reach. James Johnson and his team have covered some of the most iconic events in entertainment, including the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, Essence Festival, Stellar Awards, and The Grammys. These red carpet moments not only amplified the brand’s visibility but also validated U.G. Digital’s place among nationally recognized outlets.
In 2025, the company added another milestone by signing on to provide virtual coverage for the Sheen Awards, taking place at the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta on September 25, 2025. This partnership exemplifies the company’s continued commitment to blending tradition with digital innovation.

The future of U.G. Digital Media & Publishings is brighter than ever, with multiple new ventures on the horizon:
Podcasting Expansion: Several new platforms are preparing to launch under U.G. Digital Podcasting & Radio, including The Game Changer, Soap Dish, and The Panel. These shows will expand the network’s reach, offering fresh perspectives and dynamic conversations.
U.G.D. Live Returns: This October, U.G.D. Live will make its official return to the radio airwaves, reconnecting audiences with one of the company’s flagship outlets.
Celebrity Partnerships: Johnson and his team are currently in talks with multiple celebrities to bring their podcast ventures to the U.G. Digital network—an expansion that will solidify its position as a premier destination for culture-driven media.
Community Commitment: With Scribe’s Block in development, U.G. Digital is not only producing content but also investing in the next generation of media professionals. This initiative ensures that the company’s legacy is about more than coverage—it’s about empowerment.
Getting to Know the Faces Behind U.G. Digital
James Johnson — Founder, U.G. Digital Media & Publishings
At the heart of U.G. Digital’s success is James Johnson, a visionary whose journey into media began in 2001 with an opportunity at Radio One Cleveland, courtesy of a mention to station executives by nationally syndicated radio host Russ Parr. That early start introduced Johnson to the power of broadcasting and the possibilities of reaching audiences through media.
Soon after, he gained experience working for WKYC TV-3, further sharpening his understanding of traditional media before stepping boldly into the digital world.
relentless work ethic allowed him to transform his vision into reality. Today, Johnson has not only lived his dream of being an entertainment
journalist but has also created an ecosystem of media platforms that uplift, empower, and inspire.
A self-taught web designer, Johnson’s earliest projects included building a fan site for Cleveland’s own Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, called Thuggish Allstarz. Ambitiously, he pitched the group on adopting the site as their official online home. While the proposal didn’t move forward, the experience sparked something bigger—the realization that he could create his own platform. That fan site eventually evolved into Urban Connectionz Online, which ran from 2003 to 2011.
From there, Johnson never looked back. He built his career as an independent journalist on his own terms, determined to preserve his integrity and create a platform that celebrated culture rather than exploited it. His strength, tenacity, and
Kat Kwueen — Director of Multimedia Content
Another vital face behind U.G. Digital is Kat Kwueen, who serves as Director of Multimedia Content. Kat transitioned into U.G. Digital Podcasting & Radio with a deep passion for urban media and a clear vision for creating content that resonates.
Armed with a degree in Communications and Broadcast Journalism, Kat knew this was the industry where she belonged. Since joining U.G. Digital, she has delivered on every front, proving herself as a dynamic force within the company.
Her work with U.G. Digital has also provided a platform for her additional creative pursuits— including modeling, acting, comedy, and hosting —all of which she has been able to successfully pursue alongside her media career. Kat currently co-hosts Transcending The Culture, helms her own podcast Kat Got Ya Tongue, and stands at the helm of Kulture Krave Magazine.
Kulture Krave is U.G. Digital’s new branded digital magazine that boldly drives the company into the gossip scene and the inner workings of pop culture. With Kat’s creative direction, the magazine blends entertainment, celebrity coverage, and cultural commentary, giving readers a sharper, more unfiltered look into the worlds that shape mainstream conversation.
Kat embodies the spirit of U.G. Digital: versatile, fearless, and deeply committed to storytelling that uplifts and entertains—while pushing the brand into bold, new cultural territory.

The upcoming project promises a gripping look at what it truly means to embody the spirit of an underdog: unyielding, resilient, and unstoppable.
This fall, the Underdog Tour sets sail on an inspiring voyage—a four-day, four-night cruise from Miami to the Bahamas, taking place November 6–10, 2025. But this isn’t just another themed getaway. The cruise serves as a safe haven for self-discovery, healing, and connection among those who have faced life’s most difficult battles.
For the first time, the experience will honor both men and women, building an inclusive platform where personal victories can be shared, celebrated, and used as fuel to inspire others. Through workshops, live panels, and intimate gatherings, the cruise promises to leave attendees forever changed.
Meet the Women Leading the Movement
Behind this transformative experience stand three remarkable women whose own lives reflect the mission of the tour.
Dana Hicks-Hungerford—a powerhouse creative and survivor —wears many hats: actress, director, playwright, producer, and best-selling author. Her story is one of grit and grace, having battled through a stroke, substance abuse, and depression to emerge as a beacon of strength. Beyond her work in the arts, she’s the founder of “You Make The Bag” and co-founder of Hungerford Distribution and Hungerford Management Group.
Schenika Quattlebaum, Founder and CEO of Natalia Me’gan Beauty, transformed trauma into triumph. A survivor of domestic violence, addiction, and sexual assault, Schenika rebuilt her life and created a beauty empire now recognized by Vogue, Forbes, and Essence. Her journey reflects the heart of the Underdog Tour— showing how pain can be the foundation of purpose .
Dr. Dawn NiCole Moss, former Miss Black USA 1996, is the Founder and CEO of Good Girls Getting Better Empowerment Forum and Executive Vice President of Big City Foods LLC. Her path to success wasn’t without obstacles; years of health challenges and career setbacks only sharpened her commitment to leadership and mentorship. Today, she stands as a guiding light for women striving to rise above their circumstances.
The Docuseries: Turning Pain into Power
Accompanying the tour’s voyage will be the highly anticipated three-part docuseries, set to chronicle the deeply human stories that define this movement. Cameras will capture raw and emotional moments—unfiltered conversations, private reflections, and the unbreakable resolve of individuals determined to reclaim their lives. Each episode will explore themes of resilience, healing, and self-empowerment,
offering viewers an inside look at the Underdog Tour’s impact as it moves from event to global movement. For those seeking inspiration, healing, or simply a reminder that victory is possible even after defeat, this series is poised to be life-changing.
As production begins, anticipation is building around what many are calling not just a documentary, but a declaration—a call for every underdog to rise. Through every story told, the series will remind audiences that resilience is a universal language and that transformation begins when we dare to tell our truth.
