Gina Ford is a second-year student from Loganville majoring in international affairs. Gina is extremely interested in counterterrorism, in particular in the intelligence sector; her goal is to enter military operations as a career. She credits the CCFG Scholarship as the greatest blessing she could have imagined. It has not only eased the worries of the financial burden of college, but it also has provided her with a network of friends and mentors that enhance her experience at UGA. Gina has found every professor, mentor and CCFG recipient to be welcoming and helpful, which has been vital to allowing her to assimilate with campus life comfortably and to take advantage of all that UGA has to offer. Bonnie Joerschke has been director of UGA’s Office of Student Financial Aid since 2008. Joerschke oversees an office that is responsible for administering around $530 million from federal, state, institutional and private loans and awards annually, including about $25.8 million in institutional grants and scholarships and around $2.3 million in need-based scholarships for UGA students. Joerschke has been in the financial aid profession since 1975, with administrator experience at three other large public universities, including Purdue University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and Oklahoma State University. She is active in the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and chaired the association’s federal issues committee in 2008-09. In 2012-13 she chaired the association’s Reauthorization Task Force which developed recommendations for submission to Congress on issues and specific statutory changes in the federal student aid programs and their delivery systems. Joerschke was awarded the association’s Meritorious Achievement Award in July 2013 in recognition for her leadership in developing student aid policy, passion for helping disadvantaged students realize their educational pursuits, and sustained contributions to the financial aid profession. She also has served as chair and immediate past chair of the College Board Southern Regional Assembly in 2014-16. David Meyers has been dedicated to child and family welfare for the last 20 years, with experience in both organizational and direct practice. He has been at UGA’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development since 2010, working on a range of youth and family leadership initiatives with a primary focus of supporting young people in foster care and the families and institutions that serve them, including the Georgia Education and Training Voucher statewide program, Embark Georgia, and the Together Georgia professional leadership development series. David has a particular interest in developing training, pre-collegiate and college access programs and initiatives to support foster families. He serves on several committees in support of children and is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Social Work. Jere W. Morehead became the University of Georgia’s 22nd president on July 1, 2013, having previously served as UGA’s senior vice president for academic affairs and provost since 2010. He is a 1980 graduate of the UGA School of Law and the first alumnus of UGA to be named president in more than 45 years. Prior to 2010, President Morehead served UGA in several key administrative assignments, including vice president for instruction, vice provost for academic affairs, associate provost and director of the Honors Program, and acting executive director of legal affairs. President Morehead is the Meigs Professor of Legal Studies in the Terry College of Business, where he has held a faculty appointment since 1986. He has received several university-wide teaching awards, including the Richard B. Russell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the Josiah Meigs Award, UGA’s highest honor for teaching excellence. He also received the Distinguished Service Scroll Award, the Law School Alumni Association’s highest honor, and has been included in Georgia Trend’s list of Most Influential Georgians for four consecutive years.

Nicholas Murray is a second-year student from Canton and an intended finance major with plans to apply to the Terry College of Business. Nick aspires to work for a private equity firm and eventually become a financial analyst. Nick and his twin brother share a room in one of the campus residence halls and fall into the group of students with the highest financial need among undergraduates enrolled at UGA. He is the recipient of the Zell Miller Scholarship, two university scholarships, and the Horatio Alger Association Al and Cathy Annexstad Scholarship. The Annexstad Scholarship is a private scholarship for a high-need undergraduate student who possesses the academic potential to become a leader in the finance industry and who has successfully triumphed over significant personal and/or family hardship. Dr. Naomi Norman is a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor and associate vice president for instruction at UGA. Dr. Norman oversees several programs that seek to improve student academic success, such as Academic Advising (including Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising and the new Exploratory Center that opened last fall to help students decide on majors); Academic Enhancement; and first-year programs, such as Learning Communities and the First-Year Odyssey Seminar program. Prior to coming to the Office of Instruction, Dr. Norman served as department head in Classics for several years and has taught archaeology and Greek at UGA since 1980. She also directed the University of Georgia Excavations at Carthage (Tunisia) and is co-director of the UGA Reacting to the Past Program, an award-winning program that gives students a unique opportunity to engage in active learning. Kelly Margaret Vance is a fourth-year student majoring in public relations with a minor in women’s studies. When she first enrolled at UGA, the Cincinnati, OH, native did not have a place to live and did not know anyone in Athens. Nor did she have a support network of friends or family that she could call on for help. For a while she lived in her car. Even though she had no money, she knew that getting a college education was the key to a better life. Through UGA’s Embark program, Kelly connected to the staff in the Office of Student Financial Aid who helped her apply for a grant that got her back on her feet. Kelly credits Embark for showing her that people from all walks of life can achieve a higher education when the leaders of institutions like UGA care about the success of all students. Scott Williamson is vice president of public affairs and communications for Coca-Cola North America. During his 24-year career at The Coca-Cola Company, Scott has directed public relations initiatives for virtually all of the company’s brands and sports and entertainment properties. He manages a team of 10 public affairs professionals in New York City and Atlanta. Scott earned a bachelor of arts degree in political studies at Gordon College in Wehnam, Mass., and a master’s degree in mass communications from UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he is now a Grady College Fellow and frequent lecturer. Scott and his wife Debbie are the proud parents of two UGA students, Tyler and Hannah.
