U’FUTURE

UFU’s RECOVERY PILLAR

SUSTAINABLEECONOMICRECOVERYOF UKRAINE

FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF THE UFU’S CREATION, WE HAVE COMMITTED TO CONSOLIDATE EFFORTS FOR A JUST AND SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY OF UKRAINE

UFU’s commitment to sustainable and just economic recovery of Ukraine has been reinforced by the Guiding Principles for Ukraine’s recovery process - Lugano principles.

Stakeholders and state representatives committed to the so-called Lugano Principles Among others, these principles advocate for an equal and inclusive recovery. In addition, the sustainability principle calls for a sustainable recovery of Ukraine aligned with the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals

U’Future aims to contribute to the sustainable economic recovery of Ukraine by delivering the followingkeypillars:

Know-how-deliveringhigh-quality educationalprogrammestochangemakers, entrepreneursandvisionariesinUkraine

16

UFU WOMENLEAD

DEVELOPING UFU’S STRATEGY FOR THE RECOVERY PILLAR, WE HAVE OFTEN BEEN ASKED WHY WE SUPPORT UKRAINIAN ENTREPRENEURS, CHANGEMAKERS, AND SMES DURING THE ONGOING WAR.

SMALL AND MICRO BUSINESSES AND CIVIL SOCIETY INITIATIVES ARE CRUCIAL TO THE UKRAINIAN ECONOMY, RESILIENCE, AND RECOVERY. SMES AND SINGLE ENTREPRENEURS CONTRIBUTE OVER60%OFUKRAINE'SGDPAND REPRESENT THE BACKBONE OF THEECONOMY.

In particular, female entrepreneurs had been driving growth, opening 51% of new businesses in2020-2021,untilthefull-scaleRussianinvasion reversed their progress. After a year of war, the percentage of new women-owned businesses dropped to just 29%, highlighting the need for targeted support. By empowering Ukrainian entrepreneurs and SMEs, especially female-led endeavors, the Recovery Pillar aims to catalyze grassroots economic renewal, stimulate longterm growth, uphold social stability, and showcase the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian peopleinthefaceofaggression.

Following our cooperation with the Nobel Women Initiative, they were inspired by the resistance of Ukrainian women and mindful of their pivotal role in the recovery of Ukraine’s economy. UFU, supported by the NWI, launched the Women Lead Programme. Women Lead is a pilot campaign to support female entrepreneurs and women-led initiatives to empower sustainable and inclusive economic recovery of Ukraine.

Goal: Support female-led SMEs, female entrepreneurs and change-makers in the followingareas:

(i)healthandwellbeing,

(ii)educationandchildcare;

(iii)sustainableentrepreneurship
