INTRODUCTION
OlgaHamama Co-Founder RomanKozyr CEO
As you are reading these lines, it has been a journey of 24 months that began in the early hours of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is a journey of resilience, unity, decisive action, and learning
At United For Ukraine (UFU), we fundamentally believe that Ukraine is fighting for much more than its statehood and existential survival –global values of democracy and freedom are at stake. It is a watershed moment in human history which will pave the way for future developments:
Can we create lasting change? Or will we fail, and the rule of law will cease to exist and be replaced by the use of force prevailing?
For us at UFU, the answer is unequivocal: Contemporary Democracy and Sustainable Economy will let future generations flourish. These are the values worth fighting for. These are the values Ukraine is defending.
To enforce this vision, we united to address Ukraine’s immanent needs for emergency relief most effectively. In the last two years, we have effectively and sustainably built our partnerships and network to support people affected by the Russian war on Ukraine and rebuild the country.
Versatile, talented, tech-savvy professionals and leaders created UFU. Direct lines of communication with the Ukrainian government, embassies, our families, and compatriots enabled us to provide full-fledged support to displaced Ukrainians, Ukrainian businesses, and state authorities in the early days of a full-scale invasion.
Over the past two years, the organization has grown from a volunteer-driven initiative to a professional organization with a dedicated team, board, robust governance structures, and official Swiss registration. In 2023, we opened a representative office in Ukraine and expanded our mission to support the economic empowerment of the people of Ukraine through our Recovery Initiative - U'FUture.
We are grateful to everyone who has supported and accompanied us on this journey throughout the last two years. There are no I's in the team. There can be no win without unity. Our achievements and learnings would not have been possible without each other's contribution
Today, Ukraine and its people need your support more than ever. This Impact Report is, therefore, not only a THANK YOU note but, even more so, an invitation to continue and keep joining forces until Ukraine's victory!

KEYPILLARS OUR
Starting with the full-scale invasion, the UFU team consolidated and amplified actions aiming at supporting people displaced by the Russian war on Ukraine (UFU Platform), channeled funding and resources to provide humanitarian aid to the affected people in Ukraine (humanitarian aid), amplified voices and needs of Ukrainians and the Ukrainian government abroad (advocacy) and consolidated projects aiming at Ukraine’s sustainable economic recovery (U’FUture). As of 2023, our main activities have been dedicated to the UFU Platform and U’FUture, while we naturally continued using our voice and network to advocate for the Ukrainian causes aligned with our mission.

The Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine prompted the biggest refugee crisis since World War II Overnight, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes and rush to the Western borders to seek safety outside their homeland, often without any guidance or plan Until now, over 6 million people have been forced to stay abroad,andanother8milliontoseekrelative safetyinotherregionsofUkraine
Some people managed to flee by car, some by trains or buses, and some have been crossing the border on foot. Almost all of them had one thing in common - they had mobilephonesandaccesstotheInternet.
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, few reliable information resources were available, mainly spread over Telegram groups, dispersed, andoftenunverifiedornot up-to-date As of the third day of the fullscale invasion, the UFU Platform became a trusted source of information about refugee support centers, the most necessary contacts in the countries bordering Ukraine, and information about all other valuable resources Thefirstwebsitewaslaunchedon the third day of the full-scale invasion, supported by 200 pro-bono lawyers delivering critical information in neighboring countries and more than 60 volunteers facilitating the necessary housing. Enabling two-way communication and support, the UFU platform has become more than just an information website within days. The number of individual requests sorted in Google Sheets in the back end was overwhelming. Human trafficking and safety cybersecurity increasedthechallenge.
To increase quality and provide robust solutions, partnerships were key - Signpost, powered by the International Rescue Committee, becameoneofthecorepartners of the young NGO, providing guidance in the deliveryofcriticalinformationandsupporting with technological solutions like Zendesk in the back end to allow for structured ticketing andprocessingofrequests
18
For the facilitation of legal aid requests, the UFU team was supported by PIL.net, and more than 500 pro bono lawyers from international law firms, legal boutiques, and law clinics chose a partnership with a leading no-code solutions provider, Bryter. The UFU team partnered with AirBnB.Org and Booking.com to provide safe and robust housing solutions, becoming the leading provider of temporary free housing in Europe. The call center services were supported by Cisco technology and delivered by 12 refugees employedwiththeorganizationalsupportofPhineogAG,laptopsdeliveredbyNestlé,andfreeofficespace providedbyTechQuartierinFrankfurt.
The UFU team went on to offer and facilitate services and critical information in various areas, including psychological support, education, and job offerings Overall, services in access of USD9million have been facilitatedandprocessedthroughtheUFUPlatform, andthousandsofindividualsweresupported Thiswas possibleduetogenerousfunding,technologydonations,andtheexpertise-basedvolunteeringofnumerous partners These numbers are more than a testament to our commitment it's a metric of hopes restored, livessupported, andfuturessecured Aswelooktothefuture, weremainsteadfastinourmissiontoprovide much-neededassistance,empoweringthepeopleofUkrainewithvitalinformationandopportunities
Googleorg Fellows played a key role in supporting IRC/Signpost and UFU in designing and developing the UFU Platform so it could deliver upon its mission and become a one-stop shop for refugees which was easily accessibleandscalable.
A multi-disciplinary team of Google Fellows responsible for various workstreams was working on the project for the time-period of six months This was yet another key example of how effective partnerships and expertise-based volunteering can provide solutions at scale in times of crisis

"I have known the United for Ukraine (UFU) team since the creation of the organisation in the week after the onset of the tragic war in Ukraine. I am proud of working together with them to create Europe’s largest single information service for Ukrainians that helps guide them through complex and difficult matters, empowering people to make informed decisions about their futures despite the difficulties they face. UFU is unique in that they have managed to assemble such a broad range of players and leveraged their talents and capacities to produce impact Their agile techforward approach that unites the private and public sectors should be noted as a model for the future of relief and development work

To make reaching us as easy as possible, communication occurs via all the most famous Ukrainian platforms: Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Viber, website, and telephone hotline The consolidation of help requests from these diverse channels takes place thanks to various technological solutions provided by IRC, Signpost, Mercy Corps, Meta, and BRYTERsupport.

Because of the ongoing war and rapidly evolving needs of the people affected, the UFU Platform will focus emergency services on the highest needs inside Ukraine while improving the quality of information and healing services globally. This includes qualitative partnerships with mental health providers, education organizations, and groups supporting return and reintegration Our Digital Liaison Officers remain critical in providing personalized support across all areas We are also optimizing processes, content, and partnerships to reachmorepeopleinneed
Every month, our call center and Digital Community Liaisons (DCLs) teams handle thousands of vital inquiries Drawing on our extensive resources and the support of our partners in the mental health, education, and legal sectors, we provide comprehensive support to individuals in their most crucial moments Our role is to understand their unique circumstances, offer support, and provide clear action steps, whether evacuation, international travel, paperwork, housing, or employment
We often encounter desperate requests, such as when Lidiya Slepneva asked for help following the flooding of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. After providing the necessary information, the gratitude we received reaffirmed the impact and value of our work.
Every interaction reminds us that human life is behind every request, which drives our commitment.

From the start, one of our foremost priorities at United For Ukraine has been ensuring displaced Ukrainians find safe shelter during their uncertain journey into foreign countries. The UFU team began providing accommodation from the early days of our operations with the support of more than 60 volunteers across Europe. Growing security concerns prompted us to seek a solid partnership for a long-term sustainable solution. We have been honored to gain your trust. And support of Airbnb.Org and Booking.com to become a European leader in temporary accommodations.
In partnership with Phineo AG and supported by Alliance For Ukraine/Project Together, Allianz, Airbus, and other donors, we established a call centeremploying12displacedUkrainianwomen. Since the foundation of United For Ukraine, providing qualitative legal assistance with the support of our pro bono partners has been a cornerstone of the UFU platform. Our dedicated team efficiently handles various queries and provides critical information, but specific situations demand specialized legal expertise
The areas of UFU legal assistance cover various matters, including:
immigration or temporary protection laws only (e g , registration for temporary protection, changing the country/place of residence within a country, family reunification); country-specific issues of employment, education, housing, medical and tax law, financial aid; questions related to crossing the border (e g , with or without certain documents such as biometric passport/ID card, moving with children); issuance/loss of documents (e.g., residence permit, visa, birth certificate, disability certificate) in various individual contexts
The legal needs of Ukrainian refugees have been evolving Our team could sense the developments in Ukraine based on requests:
Duringthefirstdaysofthefull-scaleinvasion, people approached UFU inquiring whether they could cross the border without having anydocuments
Oneweeklater, awomanarrivedinBerlinwith a newborn, and only a handwritten doctor certified that the child was born in a metro station in Kyiv They inquired where to apply foraproperbirthcertificate.
Halfayearlater,wereceivedourfirstinquiries aboutregisteringabusinessinEurope
KATERYNAPASHKOVA LEGAL COUNSEL AID
Within the first three days of the full-scale invasion, 200 lawyers from Europa volunteered to donate their time and expertise At the time, there was no unified European approach to immigration yet. Every case needed individual attention and often translation. Our unprecedented network of international law firms, refugee law clinics, and their dedicated pro bono lawyers enable us to provide free legal advice across 34 countries.
In December 2023, the UFU Legal Aid team and our partners celebrated a significant achievement: more than 8,000 pro bono legal support requests
This milestone is a testament to the tireless work of our team and our incredible partners, fortified by the valuable technological solution provided by BRYTER, a leading service automation platform.

Through
The Legal Aid Tool developed by BRYTER in cooperation with UFU digitalizes the legal workstream from the lawyer signing up on the platform to a person receiving specific advice
Our legal team continuously maintains and coordinates the work on the UFU platform by translating the incoming legal requests into English/French/German, “soliciting” the lawyers to take the specific requests, and responding to the inquiries within our capacity based upon official sources and a variety of legal information provided by our legal partners. Moreover, our team continuously develops the Legal Aid Tool by inventing and implementing new features or modules to facilitate our internal workflow and accelerate the response time. The “Legal Aid Tool United for Ukraine” was recognized for its innovation, receiving a nomination for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Europe awards.
Constantly analyzing the incoming requests, UFU's legal team permanently updates our website and social media
In addition, the team organized several webinars and seminars addressing the most pressing legal topics of interest for people from Ukraine
At the beginning of the war, the UFU Legal Aid team and its partners from Poland, Germany, and the UK organized an online webinar on temporary protection and other immigration possibilities for Ukrainians staying in these countries.
In 2022, UFU's most dedicated German legal partner, Julia Sontheimer, delivered an in-person and online seminar on entrepreneurship in Germany.
In the summer of 2023, UFU organized a joint legal webinar with experts from the Legal Information Network for Ukraine, an American NGO providing legal help to Ukrainian refugees in the US, and UFU's legal partners from Germany and Poland on the immigration programs for Ukrainians in Poland, Germany, and the US.

UFUPLATFORM-FULLCYCLERELIEF
To respond to the developing needs of the people affected by the war and align the strategy of the UFU Platform with the progress of the recovery initiatives - U’FUture, the UFU Platform will deliver a holistic and more focused relief across the following pillars:
Emergency relief - we will focus emergency services on the highest needs inside Ukraine while increasing the quality of information
Healing - as mental health remains a pertaining issue for everyone affected by the Russian war on Ukraine; we shall continue our commitment and provide qualitative information with the support of qualitative partnerships
Re-Integration - millions of Ukrainians returned to Ukraine already during the first year of the full-scale invasion Many are considering returning to Ukraine despite the ongoing war, and according to the Ministry of Economy, the economic development of Ukraine must return at least 4,5 million refugees; a #Homecoming initiative in partnership with governmental, non-governmental, and private organizations will be implemented with the support of the UFU Platform
Empowerment - To align our workstreams, programmes, and know-how offered as part of the U’FUture initiative, related activities will be streamlined via the UFU Platform and other initiatives aligning with our values and mission

As our services spanned 30+ countries in 2022 and 2023, we expanded our reach to Ukraine This development was first prompted by the number of people returning to Ukraine and an increasing number of internally displaced and affected individuals
As the governments and various institutions stepped up their systematic support abroad, we have also reacted to the changing realities and focused the support of our digital liaison officers and service teams on specific emergency cases
Staying true to our DNA, we have partnered with other NGOs to provide meaningful and qualitative support to those most need it. Recent cooperations include Helping to Leave, Sunflower Care e.V., Lobby X, Find Refugee, AI4Good, Danish Refugee Council, Caritas Ukraine, and other organizations. The main goal of these cooperations is to support individuals who are being evacuated from the front zones or de-occupied territories, veterans and their families leaving Ukraine for treatment abroad, children and their families who receive medical treatment abroad, etc. More projects and cooperations are in the pipeline for 2024
Technology and the support of our partners will remain vital to delivering our services, as will the ongoing support of Digital Liaison Officers
As the critical situation abroad is becoming less pressing, about 70% of requests UFU received last year came from Ukraine. Overall, the number of requests and services provided remains very high (on average, 3000 requests per month). With the ongoing war, intensifying attacks on civil infrastructure, and, frankly speaking, uncertainty about the length, the intensity of the war, and the scale of future damages and needs, the UFU Platform will remain one of the core pillars of UFU’s services

In the early, unsettling months following the onset of the conflict, United for Ukraine was at the forefront, actively engaging in humanitarian aid efforts, facilitating and coordinating the support provided by international partners in cooperation with Ukrainian embassies, NGOs, andgovernmentalinstitutions.
In cooperation with the team from Enkidu - a platform for donors and charities - we garnered curated lists of urgently needed items for Ukrainian Embassies, Consulates, and the Presidential Office Our network's power enabled us to facilitate substantial support funded by international partners in Switzerland, Germany, theUK,andtheUnitedStates
Our teams, led by Jana Karras, Victor Roth, and Angelina Jamshed, coordinated fundraising, purchasing, and delivering ambulances and medical aidtoUkraine.
In partnership with Eintracht Frankfurt eV, University Clinic Düsseldorf, Club an der Alster, University Clinic Hamburg Eppendorf, and private donors, we collected and delivered 40 tonnes of medicine, food supplies, and other humanitarian goodstoUkraine
Our humanitarian aid efforts were also channeled through high-visibility events facilitating the participationofcivilsocietiesinvariouscountries.

Oneofthehighlightsofourhumanitarianefforts in 2022 was the successful evacuation and integration of 32 children and adults from the Football Academy Polissya, Zhytomyr Safely relocated to Königstein, Germany, these young footballers found an immediate haven in the local club, SC Königstein, with Eintracht FrankfurtFootballSchoolsteppingintosupport the girls' training. We thank Ukrainehilfe Königstein and The Elevator Boys for your financialsupportandformakingthispossible.
Bolstered by the success of this initiative, we expanded the program so that, in total, 62 children and adults have benefited from the cooperation initiatives and fundraising through sports
This sports exchange further strengthened their physical and mental well-being and promoted a vibrant cultural exchange, contributing to their overallpersonaldevelopmentandresilience
While we've since refocused our efforts on legal aid and temporary accommodation, we look back on our humanitarian aid activities with pride The memory of these efforts continues to fuel our dedication to supporting those affected by the crisisinUkraine.

UFU WOMENLEAD
DEVELOPING UFU’S STRATEGY FOR THE RECOVERY PILLAR, WE HAVE OFTEN BEEN ASKED WHY WE SUPPORT UKRAINIAN ENTREPRENEURS, CHANGEMAKERS, AND SMES DURING THE ONGOING WAR
SMALL AND MICRO BUSINESSES AND CIVIL SOCIETY INITIATIVES ARE CRUCIAL TO THE UKRAINIAN ECONOMY, RESILIENCE, AND RECOVERY. SMES AND SINGLE ENTREPRENEURS CONTRIBUTE OVER60%OFUKRAINE'SGDPAND REPRESENT THE BACKBONE OF THEECONOMY.
In particular, female entrepreneurs had been driving growth, opening 51% of new businesses in2020-2021,untilthefull-scaleRussianinvasion reversed their progress After a year of war, the percentage of new women-owned businesses dropped to just 29%, highlighting the need for targeted support By empowering Ukrainian entrepreneurs and SMEs, especially female-led endeavors, the Recovery Pillar aims to catalyze grassroots economic renewal, stimulate longterm growth, uphold social stability, and showcase the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian peopleinthefaceofaggression.
Following our cooperation with the Nobel Women Initiative, they were inspired by the resistance of Ukrainian women and mindful of their pivotal role in the recovery of Ukraine’s economy UFU, supported by the NWI, launched the Women Lead Programme Women Lead is a pilot campaign to support female entrepreneurs and women-led initiatives to empower sustainable and inclusive economic recovery of Ukraine

The Ukrainian economy plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the security and stability of the nation, thereby ensuring its overall prosperity
The domestic market has recently witnessed transformative shifts, giving Ukrainian businesses opportunities and challenges In response, numerous enterprises have adopted a proactive approach, venturing into international markets to foster growth and ensure long-term sustainability on a global scale This strategic expansion not only diversifies revenue streams but also enhances resilience against economic uncertainties, bolstering the country's economic foundation andreinforcingitspositionintheglobalarena.
By facilitating connections between Ukrainian creative businesses and international markets and being one of the first platforms to showcase Ukrainian innovative businesses on the big scale, 'I Am U Are' helps diversify revenue streams and reduce dependency on domestic markets, thereby enhancing the resilience of the Ukrainian economy against economic fluctuations and uncertainties This strategic expansion into global markets boosts the competitiveness of Ukrainian businesses and strengthens Ukraine's overall financial foundation
Additionally, sustainability was at the core of many represented businesses, recognizing its importance in shaping a resilient and thriving economy for future generations This mission resonates deeply with ours, exemplified by our pilot campaign, UFU Women Lead program, aimed at bolstering female entrepreneurs and women-led initiatives, promoting a sustainable andinclusiveeconomicrecoveryinUkraine.
