orn in Venezuela, Nella skyrocketed to international renown fueled by her powerhouse voice and undeniable presence.

In a short time, she went from Berklee College of Music graduate to winner of the 2019 Latin GRAMMY® Award for

Best New Artist. That same year, her full-length debut, Voy (I Go), written and produced by Javier Limón for Casa Limón Records, received acclaim from NPR and yielded the hit Me Llaman Nella (They Call Me Nella), which surpassed 1.4 million Spotify streams and 1.4 million views on YouTube. In addition, the title track was named the 14th best song of 2019, in any genre, by The New

York Times.

Merging the folklore roots of Venezuela, modern production, and Andalusian inspirations, her sound resounds in every corner of the globe. Not only has she packed venues throughout the United States, Venezuela, Mexico, Spain, and the UK, she has also accompanied Alejandro Sanz, Jennifer López, Carlos Vives, Luis Enrique, Susana Baca, Los Amigos Invisibles, Monsieur Periné, Caramelos de Cianuro, and Guaco as a soloist.

Notably, Academy® Award winner Asghar Farhadi recruited her to join the A-list cast of his film Everybody

Knows alongside Ricardo Darín, and Academy® Award winners Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. Illuminating her talents, she performed songs written by Javier Limón exclusively for the screenplay. It opened at the Cannes Film Festival to rapturous applause. At the beginning of 2020, Nella signed with Sony Music Records.

This is a rare chance to see an ascendant artist on her way to selling out stadiums.

DRIVEWAY THEATRE PROJECT

ith the Driveway Theatre Project (DTP), we’re bringing a new kind of block party to neighborhoods throughout Greater Gainesville!

The way it works is simple: UFPA teams up with community members like you to bring together friends and neighbors around a performance in driveways, backyards, community centers, and even places of business. You provide the space and invite the people, we provide the magic of performance. Whether it’s bringing actors, musicians, dancers, or all three, we will work with you to figure out the most appropriate performance type for your gathering.

The DTP will be an effort that meets people where they are both geographically and socially, providing performances at no cost and removing many of the boundaries that hinder folks from attending performances inside our venues. But providing no cost performances and removing these boundaries is a serious undertaking, and to realize the full potential of DTP we will need your support.

To us, success would entail DTP performances taking place at homes and community centers across Gainesville’s east, west, north, south, and in surrounding communities.

Further, relevance is key to DTP success. These events need to marry fun, the social glue of performance, and historical context into the experience. UFPA’s audiences are varied, and so too should be the Driveway Theatre Project’s.

We believe that with your help, we can grow DTP into an initiative that garners national notoriety and potential major foundation funding. Engagement with our surrounding community has always been a priority at UFPA, but this project would take things to a new level.
