Recent Events: th Our summer outing (June 6 ) was a visit to Cothay Manor (Greenham, Nr. th Wellington) – a 15 Century Medieval Manor House. 27 members of our group were able to attend and what a fantastic day we all had.... On arrival, we were greeted by the owner who gave us a warm welcome and an introductory talk (whilst we had our tea/coffee) and afterwards we were able to amble around the extensive grounds at our leisure until lunchtime. After lunch (cheese/ham ploughman’s – fresh, locally produced & very tasty to boot!) we then took a guided tour around the interior of the property itself. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable about the history of the house. (It’s building, furniture & fittings and the personal possessions of the owners) and we were all enthralled by the information we were given. In terms of the weather, we were extremely lucky and couldn’t have timed our day better. It had been ‘raining buckets’ in the morning (and so came armed with umbrellas) but once we arrived, the sun came out in all its splendour and the rain stayed away until we were all safely back inside, having our tour. I did however, feel very sorry for another tour group as their timings weren’t as good as ours! (They had viewed the house in the morning and the gardens in the afternoon and as such, were swathed in rain-coats whilst we were in short-sleeves!) Membership: If you are considering joining us then please do come along – you will be made st most welcome. We meet on the 1 Wed. of the month in the Garden Room of the Village Hall @ 7:30pm and our annual subscription is currently only £5.00. Reminder to Members: th Our Summer party is on Wed July 4 . John Bell is hoping to give a guided tour of the Clay Lane area of Uffculme – so if you are interested in taking his tour, please arrive at 7:00pm. The party will commence at around 7:30pm and we would be very grateful if everyone could bring along a contribution of food – either sweet/savoury. 2012/3 Programme: th JULY 4 Summer Party st AUG 1 Visit to The Museum of Somerset th SEPT 5 Visit to Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life rd OCT 3 Policing the Peninsula th NOV 7 West Country Snippets th DEC 5 Christmas Party with slide-show of previous group outings nd JAN 2 AGM & Antiques Viewing th FEB 6 Devon Ghosts
