Kroger Members Ratify New 5-Year Contract President Randy Quickel

As we do with most of our contracts, we sent a contract survey to Kroger members earlier this year to get feedback on what our membership felt was important to address in bargaining. The survey asked about wages, health care and other issue and demographic questions to better understand the problems and priorities among the membership. We then combined this data with a review of grievances during the previous contract and input from our Union Representatives. These sources helped influence the items in the union’s bargaining proposal. Wages and health care were the top concerns in members’ surveys. With regard to wages, members did not want bonuses in lieu of raises. Our members understood that a wage increase is far more valuable than a lump sum bonus. Wage increases form a new base wage every member can benefit from when they reached that pay level. Our membership was also acutely aware of the most endangered component of their health care: spousal
