ASU ABROAD UNITED KINGDOM Hi everyone, my name is Jemma. I am majoring in Business Administration with a specialization in Mass Communication. I always knew studying abroad was something I wanted to do. England has always held a special place in my heart since my family and I used to live here, so I thought it would be lovely to come back. I also wanted to gain a life-changing experience that would enhance both my skills and knowledge.

My favorite parts of the UK so far have been the atmosphere, entertainment, and heavy African presence. There’s always something to do. New restaurants to try, unique experiences to have, interesting places to discover, and African events every weekend.

I’ve also enjoyed being able to travel to and explore other countries.

Studying and interning in London has allowed me to grow personally and professionally in multiple areas that will benefit my long-term career goals.

ASU ABROAD JAPAN & SOUTH KOREA Hi! I’m Tabriya. I’m originally from The Bahamas & Haiti and I currently serve as ASU’s Treasurer. I am a hospitality major with a business administration minor. For 7 weeks, I studied abroad in Japan & South Korea with CIS Abroad.

My favorite part of the study abroad experience has been both the food I’ve tried & the people I’ve met. It has been incredibly rewarding to meet so many international students coming together to share cultures. Also, I have expanded my palate with new food that I had no idea existed but now can’t imagine living without.

I studied abroad intending to improve my fluency in both languages which I hope will allow me to explore the field of hospitality outside of the US. I plan to use the cultural literacy I have acquired to become a better global citizen. Understanding other cultures’ practices, norms, history and lifestyles is important for a career outside of the US. Therefore, I can use this knowledge and experience to comfortably bring my talents to others around the world.

My biggest piece of advice is to do your research. Do your research about what program best fits you as an individual, the destination you wish to go to, and how much it will cost on average. Consider the school and accommodations you will have, the activities you could do – any little thing you can think of. Use resources like social media (TikTok was so helpful) as much as possible. I recommend starting the process as early as your first semester! As long as you do your best to prepare you will be guaranteed an amazing and seamless experience.

FOLAKE, WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FINDING THE RIGHT INTERNSHIP?

After concluding my final academic semester at UF, I interned at Minars Dermatology in Hollywood, FL where I help with different things like Botox/fillers, incision and draining, surgeries, skin tag removal, and much more. I have always had an interest in all matters relating to the skin - from watching Dr. Pimple Popper to rotating my skincare routine. I hope to use my experience to become a Dermatology Physician Assistant. I’ve gotten along great with my coworkers and the doctors at this office and I’m looking forward to spending my next few gap years at this job!

When scouting for internship opportunities, it's very useful to ask classmates and friends that had internships where they’ve started. Use your campus resources like the academic advisors because they have so much information. Do your research online and sign up for LinkedIn or Handshake where you can network with professionals and find many opportunities. It is also helpful to scour through the UF page on Reddit and Facebook because lots of students and former students post numerous opportunities there.

Hey everyone, my name is Chieloka Mbaji and this summer I got to intern with Southwestern Advantage.

This summer I’m working in Madison, Wisconsin and I’m staying with a host family in Verona. I was attracted to the internship because of how difficult it is, but the rewards are worth it. You learn to persevere, break belief barriers and make lifelong friendships.

For this internship, I run my own business, while interacting with families based on cold calls, showing them educational resources such as books, apps, and websites.
