President’s Welcome:

It was not long ago that I was in the first months as a fresher here at UEA. I was just finding my feet, trying out societies, and considering if I would want to run for committee. As reading week came, so did first-year rep elections. In a moment of uncertainty, I made the decision to run for our society. I was pleased to be elected.

I spent the remainder of the year gaining experience on this committee and some others. When election time came, I felt I had the experience to go for President. I now find myself, in my second year, running a fantastic society, alongside a brilliant committee.

We have tried to build and shape this society into what we wanted as members. I believe we have done so. After learning an enormous amount from our first semester, we felt prepared to deliver a proper semester card. This hard work has paid off in what you see before you now. We will be hosting many brilliant speakers, and we hope you will join us in taking a break from your studies to come along to our socials.

I am proud to be your President, and look forward to seeing this society grow ever greater.

President 24/25

Accessibility:

We aim to ensure all of our events are accessible to all people. We try to host our speakers in wheelchair accessible, and hearing loop equipped lecture theatres.

Many of our socials are on campus, and for those that aren’t, we do our best to make they are as easy as possible to attend.

The Society has a policy of political neutrality. While we are of course a politics society, we do not endorse nor condemn any particular political stand point. We want this society to be a space for open conversation and debate. A place where you can expand your horizons of knowledge. Thus, we welcome those on all sides of the political spectrum. Having said that, the society, and its membership, must abide by the UEA(SU) Code of Conduct, and UK Law If you are concerned a fellow member has broken either of these, do not hesitate to reach out and we will support as we can.

To open up to as many as we can, all events for the first two weeks of the semester are open to all UEA students, regardless of if you have membership or study politics. These events are our re-Freshers Bar Crawl, our first speaker event of the semester with Lord Hain, and our first Pints and Politics. We very much hope you will join the Society. Membership is £3 and available on the UEA(SU) website.

Due to the nature of our events and our speakers schedules, events may be cancelled or moved on short-notice. We apologise for any upset this may cause.

We are in constant conversation on how to make our events as accessible as possible. If you have any suggestions we would love to know.

Just get in touch
