LITTLE SHOULD MEAN MUCH Having in mind the last two decades on territories of Balkan Peninsula, it is very difficult to put it’s economic crisis in terms of global economic crisis. Yugoslavia, socialist and multinational republic as originally created, fell apart because of conflicts that emphasized national ideology and religious orthodoxy. The mentioned attitudes resulted in war that jeopardized well -established social homeostasis and safety in terms of existence. Post communistic countries, Yugoslavian fragments, completely mis-

guided by lousy transitional politics and quasi democratic values resulted in loss of system of value and support to ones subjected to this kind of society. If we refer to crisis as system disorder, where subjects are condemned to the passive behavior, actually only thinking about disorder, without possibility to be the participants of social integration, then Balcan reality can be paradigm to similar theses. Thus, we won’t be able to say something about crisis ‘until members of society feel changes as criticism 7

’(Habermas, 1982 ). Crisis on Balkan has been permanent condition for decades, part of everyday life that made people to ‘ get used to it’’ and to accept the global economic crisis as one more unstabilized fact in the process of integration as their reality. However, no matter how ‘apocalyptic’ Balkan reality seemed, art is one of the media that covers the problem of social narrative, values it and in gives space to free and independent dialogue. During previous years Minimum Maximum exhibitions have tried to follow some of the taboo topics that occupy our society, topics such as communism, religion, sexuality. Topic for this year exhibition is ‘Crisis’ and it reveals it as always present narrative/whether we like it or not/. It is obvious that economic crisis has made impact on every element of our lives. Exsistential issues brought up line of moral, family values crisis. Also, national and religious extremism. Ac-

tually, everything that is society’s and individual’s slop. In terms of that reality, self-conscious individual is marginalized by society and left alone, while mechanism of escape works on its own, as part of unique experience and perception. Exhibits are micronarratives of individuals , not neccesary artist, that have created and based their work on their own personal experience. By using every available material, they expressed clear and picturesque attitude toward the topic. Together they created diverse collection of the similar attitudes and opinions. Although the exhibits are rather smaller, which also sends certain message, the authors have tried to make it complete in every possible way, the fact that stands for our everyday ambition. II NAGRADA / 2nd PRIZE Josip Mijić / Kriza vrijednosti / Crisis of values Stvari same po sebi nisu ni dobre ni loše, ni lijepe ni ružne, nego samo jesu.

Things by itselves are neither good nor bad, neither beautiful nor ugly, they just are. Man, as a rational being has the ability to give them value and meaning. But we are in a period of fast living where we don’t have time for a quality perception and valorization of thing we survived. It seems like we are not consuming our lifes. We are observing it

from a car that’s driving over the limit. Thus we are being bombarded with all sorts of things , which brings us into a state of disorientation and demotivation . We get caught up in the routine of life over which we have no control . We do not recognize the great, universal values, we are creating a modified value specific to each individual. And out of that crisis we got a consumerist age where profit is the main goal, paper money, which in fact has no value. We rejected a permanent spiritual values, and we are oriented exclusively to material success. We do not ask ourselves anymore does that have a value and what kind , but is it useful for us or not. To visualize the Crisis of values I used an apple which symbolizes healthy living , and thus the true value , and on the other hand a black reflective resin and gold paint, symbolizing the values of the consumer society (oil and gold). 17

II NAGRADA / 2nd PRIZE Diana Trohar / Mudrost knjige promjena / Wisdom of book of changes Inspiracija za rad dolazi iz knjige velikog američkog glumca, režisera, pjesnika i slikara Julian Beck-a, koji je jasno izražavao anarhistička shvatanja.

Inspiration for work comes from the book of the great American actor, director, poet and painter Julian Beck, who has expressing very clearly his anarchist ideas. The task of the artist in the first place was to create interaction within society. This would emphasize the need and importance of the role of each individual in the collective creation of changes. Every individual has the opportunity to think on the crisis in their own way, and the possibility to write their wisdom on papers that are part of the artwork. Artist want to remind you of the importance of proper balance within the order of things, refering to the importance of wisdom and emotional intelligence, and on the other hand to displace empty minds from the superficial, twisted and false logic in which the crisis overwhelms every sense of true and free life. At the same time there is striving to confront the idea of wisdom donation with money donation, which is present in everyday life, distorted reality, it is simple the abstract. It is nothing. 19
