This year for the first time in Country Dance History the World Country Dance Championships will be held in The Wonderful World of Disney, Orlando ... The most Magical place on Earth.

Again this year we will have all the awards and prizes ready to take home with you … engraved and embroidered … Trophies, Jackets, Buckles and Rings. Award ceremonies are scheduled as close to your competition as the Worlds schedule allows.

She has the buckles, individual display boxes, Champions Rings and exotic leather jackets on display in the lobby. There's just one World Championship of Country Western Dance. Here! Thank you so much for attending and participating!

Thanks to all of your hard working officers, Susie Boyd, Beth Emerson, Mona Arvidson, Jack Paulhus and European Task Force Leader Brigitte Zerah, there's lots of great news this year: 1. Ann Cunningham's great team with Brigitte Zerah and Clive Stevens presented the second UCWDC European Cup Championship at the Lakeside Complex in Surrey, England in October. We all congratulate each well deserving winner!

2. UCWDC dancers are now eligible for both World Games and Olympic Games Participation! With the blessing and support of incoming President, Kathi Bittner and the Officers of the UCWDC, I recently formed a permanent UCWDC Olympic Competition Organizing Committee. After many years of hard work and negotiation by many, many people, in a public ceremony at the IDSF Youth Standard World Championships on December 7, 2008 in Salou, Spain, I was humbly honored to execute the final contract with International DanceSport Federation President Carlos Freitag, binding the UCWDC as a permanent member of the IDSF. That contract in part says: The UCWDC supports (a) the Fundamental Principles and essential values of Olympism, (b) IDSF's aspirations that IDSF and IDSF's members be part of the Olympic movement, (c) IDSF's application to be included in the Programme of the Olympic Games ("Summer Olympic Games") (d) the anti-doping movement, including but not limited to the work of the WorldAnti-DopingAssociation IDSF recognizes the UCWDC® as the sole worldwide representative of the two sports of Country Western Dance and Line Dance. Those words simply mean that qualified UCWDC Couples and Line Dancers, Teams and/or Troupes will have the right of full participation in the World Games 2013 and the upcoming WDSF will serve UCWDC dancers as the participation entry point in future Olympic Summer Games. The achievement of this lofty goal for our two sports could not have been possible without the steadfast support, gracious hospitality and selfless generosity of many, many people. Our hats are off to Carlos Freitag, Sebastián Sendrós, Arturo Chao, Marti Prades, Fina Comas, Clive Stevens and Kathrine Strand Hammond.

3. Thanks to the year long efforts of J.P. Oster, Points Program Chair, we recognize and honor the 2009 UCWDC Points Champions. JP's new, live, on-line Points and Eligibility Database has been a huge success on our web site. We warmly thank each winner for attending and competing at more than their required number of exciting UC Events during the year. This year's winners will be individually recognized during the Contestant Parade Saturday evening which concludes with the prestigious Ed Cagley awards for this year's top Female and top Male Points Champions. Each winner is also entitled to order and wear a Montana Silversmiths, 2009 Points Champion, Sterling Silver buckle.

4. Points Championships, individual dancer identification, participant acknowledgement and reward, tracking and graduation, plus Worlds eligibility programs will continue as a top priority item in 2009. This program gives each dancer secure access to update their own personal and confidential contact data on-line. To cap it all off, today we announce our next goal; to identify and track every dancer and team member participating in a UC Event so we can also maintain and publish their individual Graduation Status, live on the web just as we now publish their current Points and Worlds Eligibility status.

5. Don't forget to join or renew your membership in theAssociate Member program this week.

Starting this January 16th we will begin enforcing the long-standing UCWDC Rule that no person or team may begin accruing Worlds Competition eligibility credits until their dues are paid for the year.

If you compete in May but you don't join 'til June the May event will not count towards Worlds participation!

As I begin my term as President, I have looked back at this last year. There were many personal ups and downs for all of us. We are so fortunate to have dance to inspire us and our dance family to sustain us through it all.

Several good things have occurred within our organization over the last few years. We have been able to award Points Championships, we now have a Tracking System in place, and we can now track Worlds® eligibility. These things have been dreams for a long time, and now they are in place.

Kudos to Jeff Bartholomew & JP Oster for their hard work this past year and to Ed Cagley, who helped us begin this process.

We have a lot of great new plans for the UCWDC© in the coming two years! There will be two new divisions for people who want to join us, Starter A & B. These divisions will be syllabus based, with strict limitations on what moves dancers may perform, and will allow people who are interested in competing to step on the floor much sooner. Thank you to Beth Emerson, VP of Rules, and her committee, for their hard work on the syllabus. We are proud to announce that we will make the syllabus available at no charge.

We want to know what you think. Polls will be put in place this year to find out what you like, and what you don't like. We will have an open door policy, and want to hear your suggestions and solutions, and what you can do to help us achieve our goals as an organization.

Starting his Country dance career at a small competition in 1992, Anthony Lee is no stranger to the dance world.

Tony started in division 4 in the spring of that year, went to division 3 in July in Baltimore then Division 2 in September in Knoxville and then went into Division 1 in 1993 and went undefeated for 12 Grand Championships and won the World Title that year. Moving in to the Masters division he and his partner Sharon Leigh won many Masters titles including Worlds Master Waltz and was the first couple to ever perform a Night Club (slow dance) in Masters Solo in 1994. Tony's use of "theatrical moments" demonstrated innovation and moved the sport of Country Dance into new dimensions. His dance career started back in the "Disco" days where he and his partner Susan won many titles. Not only does he hold World titles in Country but also in Ballroom, Hustle and Theatre Arts. He has performed on many television shows in the US and abroad including "Dance Fever", "Soul Alive", and even the movie "Roseland" with Christopher Walken. Tony is certified as a Coach & Choreographer in Ballroom, Country, Hustle, Theatre Arts and Swing and has Judge Certifications at Championship and Master levels. He is also a certified Championship and Master level Scrutineer (scoring expert). Tony has started and directed many dance events over the past years in Country and Ballroom as well as being the current director of the UCWDC World Championships. He has a passion for dance in all its forms. Tony says it best."... I am grateful for all the dance friends I have made throughout the World and hopefully somewhere along the way some hearts were touched ... because people will sooner or later forget who won or lost but they will always remember who made them feel something. To this end... I dedicate all of this to my greatest fan ... my Mother Rose.”

ANTHONY LEE - 2008 Inductee

Keith & Jena Armbruster are great examples of how dance can become a way of life. Keith played minor league baseball until injuries forced him to retire and began dancing as an adult less than 10 short years ago. Jena started dancing at age 4 and continued through high school when she stopped to attend university and earn a master's degree in human genetics. They met dancing on a local performance dance team in Calgary and began competing as an amateur couple in 2001. Their partnership and dance skills continued to grow … and success and true love followed. Keith and Jena have earned a combined 8 World Championship titles and were married in 2004. They compete in the Classic Masters division, are certified UCWDC judges and are the proud event directors of the annual Calgary Dance Stampede.

Bob Bahrs & Paula Graves Paula is from the UK and runs the Stardust Dance School out of Glossop, England; her Mother and her have run the school for over 40 years; Paula was a British Ballroom Champion in 1982 and British Latin Champion in 1983; she was the UCWDC year 2000 Classic Advanced World Champion; Bob Bahrs is from the USA and was the 1994 UCWDC World Masters Champion; Bob and Paula have been together for 3 years, they were the 2007 UCWDC World Grand Champions; this is their 2nd year in Masters.

Chris Bailey & Melissa Foti Chris Bailey is from Birmingham Alabama. He played baseball and graduated from Samford University.

Currently, he resides in Pelham, Alabama. Melissa Foti is from Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and works for St Vincent's Health System. She currently resides in Birmingham,Alabama.

Chris and Melissa began competing together in September 1999, in Classic Division IV. In January 2000, they won the Classic Division IV World Championship. They followed with World Championships in Division III and II, qualifying for Masters inApril 2005. They are currently competing in the Masters Showcase Division.

Ronnie DeBenedetta & Brandi Tobias are from San Diego, California. They are glad to be back on the floor this week after almost a year off the floor.

Brandi found out at Worlds last year that she was pregnant and in September gave birth to baby Dylan.

Ronnie and Brandi are multiple UCWDC Classic and Showcase Masters World Champions. They are also Swing and Cabaret Champions. Ronnie and Brandi are Star Award winners in the categories of Favorite Dance Couple, Top Choreographers and Dance Coaches, and Favorite Personality.

This year has been a great year for them. They started the year off Dancing on The Today Show and finished off the year as choreographers for the show "So You Think You Can Dance. " Ronnie is also the event director for Los Angeles Premiere Dance Classic (LAPD) which is held the first weekend in April. It is usually a great time and a crazy weekend. Sasha Budaska & Rachele Basaez have both been dancing for over 12 years. Sasha started in the field of gymnastics training for a competitive carrier. When that fell threw he turned to dancing, starting in jazz and ballet and after seeing a friend in school dance with her partner he started learning country and swing. Rachele started in jazz, tap, and ballet as a little a girl.After being dragged to many two step classes with her parents she started doing country.

Sasha and Rachele joined forces in 2005 and started to compete in Showcase Division 1. In 2007 they won that division at the UCWDC World Championships in Nashville, TN, and became the new faces of the Masters Showcase Division. Sasha and Rachele are very happy to be attending Worlds this year and hope to see you out on the dance floor.

Rowdy Dufrene & Maryann Harvey are both UCWDC World Champions. Maryann is the 2004 World Grand Champion in Classic Open Division I and Rowdy is a former Classic and Showcase World Champion. They are both full-time dance instructors and are recognized nationally as teachers, coaches and choreographers. In 2007, they teamed up professionally to dance in the Masters Classic Division in the UCWDC . They were 4th Overall in Masters Classic at Worlds 2008 and recently finished 1st Overall in Masters Classic at the Dallas Dance Festival. Rowdy and Maryann look forward to competing at Worlds 2009 and to another great year of dancing together.

Rex & Rachel Jones Rex Jones is a six time World Champion and is a UCWDC Master Dancer. Rex grew-up dancing tap and jazz in his mother's dance studio. He has been both aATV racer and a professional tennis player. He has been one of the top male instructors in UCWDC for the last ten years. He is a member of the Royston Dance Company and has performed in the show Street Swing.

Rachel Jones was a gymnast and cheerleader through college. She began training and competing in dance 11 years ago and is currently competing with her husband in Masters. Rachel finished as the 2nd place top female instructor in UCWDC this year at Worlds and has left her career as an Engineer to pursue her love of dancing. She is also a member of the Royston Dance Company and has performed in the show Street Swing.

They are the 2008 Division 1 Open Showcase World Champions and Overall Points Champions.

Aaron & T iffany Lorenzen have been dancing, competing and teaching in UCWDC since 1997. The met on the dance floor and decided they were more than good friends and dance partners, they were soul mates. In addition to competing in Classic and Showcase Masters, traveling around the United States and occasionally that amazing international trip, they are the proud parents of two dauschunds, Johnson and Schintzel. They live in San Diego, California and work out of Starlight Dance Studio. Aaron is a IT Professional and Tiffany is an attorney. We are both so grateful to have learned so much, made so many great friends, and have had the opportunity to entertain people doing what we love the most - dancing. We wish all the competitors at worlds the best of luck; may your feet never fail you, may your smile light up the room, and may your performance exceed your expectations!

have been dancing together since the beginning of 2007. In that time they have won numerous Division I and Masters Championships in both Classic and Showcase. They love to dance, teach and perform and their love of dance shows every time they step on the floor. In addition to their competition schedule Toby and Harmony have also been featured on stage with the world renowned Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensamble, and on the 2008 CMACountry MusicAwards with recording artists Taylor Swift and Sugarland.

At home Harmony co-owns Colorado Dancesport, Denver's premier place to learn to dance. They both teach, coach and choreograph Country, Ballroom, Latin, and Swing for dancers all over the world.

In addition to the many awards they have received together Harmony has also been a World South American Showdance Semi-Finalist, a finalist at the World Mambo Championships, a finalist at the World Salsa Championships, and one of the top ranked Latin American dancers in the U.S. Toby has won the UCWDC World Classic Masters Championship title twice and has received a Star Award for “Best Couples Dance Instructor.”

When not on the dance floor Toby and Harmony enjoy hiking with their dog, Maceo, rock climbing, and going to the movies. They would like to thank all of their coaches, family, friends, and students for all of their hard work and support. They would also like to thank Joey Santos and the staff of Santos Designs, Inc. for all of their incredible gowns and shirts.

DORSEY NAPIER - 2004 Inductee Dorsey Napier began dancing at the age of 12 while attending school dances and record hops and was hooked from the very beginning. He started ballroom at the age of 15 and was teaching at 16. He received his bronze medal at 21, teaching ballroom for 7 years. For the last 11 years Dorsey has traveled to Europe helping to organize, promote and coordinate dance championships throughout. Because of his friendship with Herman Falkenberg, he has had the pleasure of working with dance organizers in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Belgium, Italy, and of course the Netherlands. Dorsey also judges and coordinates at many events in the USA. He is proud to be a founding member of the Council, having played a role in the promotion and the development of the UCWDC® and Country Western dance. Dorsey has attended every Council meeting. He feels very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with dance promoters throughout the World.

DENNIS and CAROL WAITE - 2005 Inductee Dennis and Carol Waite are the first “couple” to receive the Hall of Fame award. They are founding ® members of the UCWDC , participating in the first meeting held in Grantville, Pennsylvania, in 1989.

They were competitors for two years and judges and instructors for several years. Over a 14 year period they produced more than 40 events, including the Chicagoland CW Dance Festival and the Little Bit Of Texas Country Dance Convention, which changed its name in 2004 to the Memorial Day ® Dance Fest! Dennis and Carol were the first UCWDC event to offer line dance competition in 1992.

They coordinated the first line dance competition at Worlds V inAnaheim, California. Dennis served as as the Second Vice President and Membership Director of the National Teachers Association for 3 years. Dennis and Carol published “The ® Dance Corral” Magazine for 7 years and had subscribers across North America and Europe. Carol served as the Secretary of the UCWDC ® for 4 years and was hired as the first UCWDC Office Manager in 2000. Dennis and Carol had a vision that one day the entire dance community would work together as one big family. The best part of the many years they’ve contributed to country dance has been making life-long friendships.

SHERRY TOVELL - 2006 Inductee ®

Sherry Tovell is a certified UCWDC judge – one of the first to become certified from the country of Canada. She ® was the first woman elected to serve as the President of UCWDC ; and served two consecutive terms from 1999 through 2002. She was our organization’s president in the years when our World Championship event first ventured outside the United States - first to Edmonton, Canada, and then to the Netherlands the following year.

In those years of rapid growth in the popularity of competitive country dancing, both in Europe and in North America, she kept the UCWDC® on track in spite of huge financial challenges and unpredictable growing pains.

ROBERT ROYSTON - 2007 Inductee Having started as a teenager in the world of Country Dance, Robert Royston took his favorite hobby dance, and made it a career that not only has been good for him but has spread the fun of Country Dance to many people.

Always a perennial nominee for the Star Awards, Robert has been honored by the dance community with titles like "favorite teacher, emcee, personality" and more. He is one of the most successful "crossover" dancers in the Country dance community having not only won four World Dance Titles in Country but also in Swing as well with former partner Laureen Baldovi. Robert has also brought Country and Swing dancing into the sights of the mainstream public by introducing it to Broadway several years ago with the hit "Swing!", and more recently with his wife Nicola in "Swango". He also produced a television special for GAC featuring the Country Dance World Championships. Robert is an internationally recognized judge and instructor, He teaches 22 different styles of couples dancing, making his home base at Dance Manhattan in N.Y. Look for a hot new movie debuting soon on the big screen "Love 'N Dancing" which he has produced and features his choreography and the acting talent of Nicola. But with all that he has done, his proudest achievement is his son Robert Jr. and the wonderful marriage he has with wife Nicola.

SUE BOYD - 2003 Inductee Sue Boyd is a graduate of Florida State University with degrees in Psychology and Criminology, and a masters degree in Child Development, started dancing at the age of six and continued with ballet as an adult. She became involved with a group called Ballroom Dance Club in the mid 1970's and not only has a background in ballet, but also jazz, and clogging. In the mid 80's she competed on the clogging circuit for 3 years. She was the NCHC National Clogging Champion in 1985. In 1979 “country” hit the dancing world. Sue began teaching classes and has been teaching ever since. Sue became very Involved in team production and was instrumental in developing the team rules. Her team the “Rug Cutters” was number one for several years. Since 1987 Sue has been the director for the Southern National Dance Competition. Sue believes competitors need to know how they are going to be judged and what to expect. As a result Sue, with Dave Getty and several other instructors, was instrumental in developing the Judge Certification program and has served as the Vice President for Judge Certification for several years. Sue served as the first Treasurer & Secretary for the Council. She received the ® honor of being inducted into the UCWDC Hall of Fame for her many years of service to the World of Dance.

Kelly Gellette is the first lady of country western dance, has been dancing since the age of three, and began teaching dance and sports in her teens. She has danced professionally on stage, in TV and movies. She had very own TV show and with her husband, owned and operated Arthur Murray studios. They also had a talent agency. Kelly taught snow skiing for many years until a very bad accident put a crimp in many of her activities.

She is a voting member of the UCWDC® Council as the representative of the NTA (National Association of Country Western Dance Teachers). Kelly has served as president of the NTAfor many years. She developed the Accreditation (teaching training) program and spends a great deal of time traveling to locations across the USA, Canada, and Europe, judging and teaching. Kelly is a member of the Judge Certification committee, a Master Level certified judge, and one of the select few who teach and test in the Judge Certification program. Kelly has ® devoted her life and career to the World of Dance and was greatly honored by the induction into the UCWDC Hall of Fame.

Steve Zener has faithfully served the country dance community since the early 80's when country dance competition was just beginning. He had a very brief career in couples competition but quickly found that “nerves” were going to come between success and failure. So, as president of his local dance club, his focus was on serving the needs of the dance community where he began to network with other clubs and dance teams in central and northern California. Helping out wherever he could 'off' the dance floor, Steve quickly learned about the critical need for a common set of dance competition rules that could be used at other events besides his Fresno Invitational. These early efforts, in conjunction with other directors (Dave Getty, Moe Padden, Sue Wagner, Tom Mattox), eventually evolved into the Western States Rules, leading step-by-step to what would eventually become the UCWDC rules a few years later. Working as a contest coordinator for the first 2-4 years of those early dance competitions, he was also beginning to fill in as an event MC when needed. When TE Mayo decided to move out of the region, Steve stepped into his current role as an event MC and has worked nearly 250 events in his career. As a dedicated member of the UCWDC® Founder's Club, Steve moved on to a national and international audience of dancers, attempting to serve the dance community with a sense of obligation always to do what was best for the dancers.

He has served on various committees within the UCWDC® taking part in the rules process, the business team, the ethics committee, and was truly honored when the Council elected him as Vice President and Director of the World Championship Events for Worlds II through V. Those were the formative years of the Worlds Events when there were few resources in terms of financial assets to produce an event of that magnitude - but he relied on the greatest resource of all, the special people just as dedicated as he, especially those who chose to compete.

There has never been a day, regardless of the hours of obligation, that his role in the dance community has ever felt like “work”. Steve went on to serve as the 3rd person to be elected as UCWDC President in 2003 and 2004. As the director of the earliest established UCWDC event (1985) who held his first event inside a hotel over a 3 day weekend, Steve will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Frezno Dance Classic on Memorial Weekend (May) in 2009.

Bernadette Carmichael Bernadette is originally from England but currently lives in Texas teaching dance, she has been dancing for nearly 10 years and achieved many successes in this time. Collecting 10 World Titles and numerous European titles in both junior and open divisions in Pro Am, Couples and Line dance. In 2003 at 18 years old she won both Open Advanced and Showcase line dance and so qualified to dance Superstars, only competing in the division once at Worlds 2004. Bernadette then decided to concentrate on dancing with a partner and became The 2005 North American Division 1 Champion and Open Professional 8 dance Champion and then went on to win Worlds and become The 2006 World Classic Division 1 Champions (The first European to achieve this World title) with partner Mike Wagner and so qualified to dance Masters. This made Bernadette the first person to qualify for the 2 highest divisions the UCWDC has to offer Superstars and Masters.

Emily Elizabeth Drinkall A dancer since the age of 3, Emily started her dance training in Latin and Ballroom and following with Rock 'n' Roll, Freestyle & Street dancing. At the age of 12 Emily attended a Line Dance class and since that time knew it was something she wanted to pursue as a career. Emily now teaches full time in many styles of dance. With Emily's determination and hard work she has won many World titles including 2004 Grand Showcase Champion & 2006 Pro-Pro Champion. She is currently competing in Line dance Superstars and Couples Division 1 with Clive Stevens. A highlight of Emily's dance career was being voted the 2008 Favourite Line Dance Instructor at the Grand Ole Opry.

Fabienne Henshall Hi, I am 19 yrs old and from the UK. I have been dancing since the age of three ballet & tap. I started line dancing at the age of 15 and became Novice World champion in 04 after 5 months training. I then went on to become Intermediate and Advanced World champion in line & Showcase. I entered the Superstars division after winning advanced in January 07 and was thrilled to become Superstars Champion 08 after my first year. I will defend my title at worlds 09. I now teach hip hop in schools in my area and also spend time in London teaching line and learning Swing which I really love and hope to do more in 09. My teacher now is Lee Easton.

Asthma is my biggest goal to try and overcome in my dancing as it is brought on mainly by exertion. I go to the gym on a regular basis and try to work hard on my breathing. Don`t think you can`t dance if you have asthma it can be helped by breathing control, exercise and medication. The hard thing is that some times in the year it is worse and it can get you down when you have followed a regime and you still struggle to get through the dances. You have to accept that and never give up.

JEFF BARTHOLOMEW - 1998 Inductee

puts on his dancing classes Mondays & Thursdays teaching Linedance & West Coast Swing in London. He has danced for 11 years, performing and teaching his dances all over the world.

Lee has won multiple World Championships in UCWDC Line and Couples Dance and a Top Teacher and Star awards for his work with international students and is amongst the highest ranked line dancers in the world.

Coaching and developing Country & Swing dancing all over the world Lee has a passion for dancing that is evident anytime music is playing.Winning 10 world titles in solo and couples divisions Lee held the 2006 & 2007 World Line Dance Super Star Grand Champion titles.

Jon Knights is 25 years old and resides in the county of Berkshire in Southern England. With much persuasion from his Mum he started Line Dancing at the age of 14 attending classes in the local area and was hooked from the moment he started. Aged 18 he decided to try his hand at competitions and danced in his first competition at the UCWDC City of Light Event in Paris, July 2001 and hasn't looked back since. In 2006 after the World Championships in Sweden Jon decided he wanted to take his dancing to the next level and started training with 2 time Superstar World Champion Lee Easton which resulted in him winning 3 European Titles and 3 World Titles amongst many others.

He is the 2008 Line Advanced Open and Line Showcase Open World Champion as well as the 2008 Line Choreography Non Country Newcomer/Novice World Champion winning with his dance “Let's Dance (Hot Stuff)” which is the current UCWDC Line Newcomer Funky Dance! 2008 also saw Jon graduate to the Superstar Division which has been a dream come true for him and he is very much looking forward to dancing as a Superstar at Worlds in Florida this year!

Jeff Bartholomew began as a dance competitor as a junior in 1946 just after he saw his first Fred Astaire movie.

He says, “After watching him, even as a child, I instinctively knew, right away, that all I would ever really want to do is DANCE!” He remained a competitor for 23 years. His professional dancing career started with Arthur Murray in 1954. By 1969, Jeff had become the Arthur Murray Dance Director, and the lead dancer, choreographer and manager of the traveling show troupe “The Arthur Murray Dancers”. In 1979, Jeff converted to Country Western dancing because of the traditional values for which it stands. Later, in 1987, Jeff became one of the principle developers of the North American Rules for Country Western dancing (known today as the UCWDC® rules). Jeff was the creator of the UCWDC® bylaws and was honored with the first Presidency in 1989, a position he held until 1999. Jeff is the organizer and director of “Halloween in Harrisburg” the Pennsylvania Dance Classic. Over the past 50 years Jeff has made many contributions to the world of dance, including induction into the UCWDC® Hall of Fame, the highest achievement obtainable in the Country Dance World.

BILL ROBINSON - 1999 Inductee Bill Robinson is the event director for the Peach State Country Western Dance Festival held each year inAtlanta, ® Georgia in March. Bill and his partner Linda Hembree competed for many years on the UCWDC dance circuit.

Bill and Linda were the top Polka and East Coast Swing competitors of their time and won many Division I Grand Championships. They were the “one to beat”! Bill is a member of the Judge Certification committee and is a ® current Master Level Judge. He travels the world to judge and contest coordinate UCWDC competitions. Bill was honored with the prestigious Hall of Fame award for his diligent efforts on the Council, his tireless work on committees and his unmatched enthusiasm to “keep it country”.

Clive Stevens was born and raised in England, where he received extensive training in Ballroom, Latin, Sequence, Disco/Freestyle, Ballet, Tap & Jazz dancing. He also worked in musical theatre and cabaret. At the age of nineteen he relocated to the United States and studied American Style and Country Western Couples & Line Dancing.

He has been dancing for 30 years and teaching for 20 years. Clive is the holder of numerous titles and his competitive achievements include United Kingdom & Commonwealth Ballroom & Latin Champion, 2 Time World Line Dance Champion, World, North American & British Pro/Pro Country Western Champion, and European Superstar & Division 1 Couples Champion. He has trained students to win many major championships, including US, European & World titles. Clive is a UCWDC Superstar, certified judge & Event Director for several competitions in the USA & Europe. He is sponsored by Dancesport International of England.

Clive is the owner of DanceSport VA in Virginia Beach, VA and travels the world coaching, competing, choreographing, judging & performing.

Jeremie Tridon Jeremie discovered Country Dancing with his parents in 2000 and since then he has never quit… He started competing and step by step improved a lot, until he became World Champion in Showcase Division in 2007. And for the first time ever for a french person, he reaches the top level : the Superstar Division. He's now among the 5 top male dancer in the world ! A great dad for his 5 year old boy Jordan, a dedicated teacher for his students, he will be performing at world's at his best level.

LINDA DeFORD - 2000 Inductee Linda DeFord is a blue eyed toehead from Tennessee, was quick to excel at the dance training opportunities that came within her reach. Early years of ballet, jazz, and social dance sparked her interest immediately and gave her the foundation to pursue a career in teaching dance. Linda is one of the original American Bandstand regulars, one of the featured dancers on Dancin’ USA and, started with club Dance in Tennessee as the show’s choreographer. Linda is known for several line dances that she choreographed and has performed on the Reba McEntire show. Linda produced her first Southeastern Regional Dance Championship in 1984 and served as the event director for 15 years. Over the years Linda has been recognized for her contributions throughout the world of dance by being presented with multitude of awards, including the Pioneer Award from the New Mexico Dance Fiesta, the BigApple Hall of Fame, the FoundersAward for the UCWDC®, the Point of LightAward from Atlantic Seashore and the Heritage Award from Dave Getty at South Bay. She has been the coach for several award winning teams including “Boots, Belles & Beaus” from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Linda has been a friend to all of us and a first line defender when defense was needed. Her dance knowledge has helped thousands of dancers over the years, including those in the many Judge Certification Training ® programs she has conducted with other UCWDC Certified Master Judges. Linda served as contest coordinator at many events and was known always make things fair for everyone. Linda was honored with the Hall of Fame Award and will always be known as the “Southern Lady of Country Western Dance.”

The first Hall of Fame award was presented in 1995 at the World Championships, and so began an annual tradition. ® The following people have been inducted into the UCWDC Hall of Fame:

DAVE GETTY - 1995 Inductee Dave Getty, also known as “Dakota”, was born in Texas, raised in South Dakota, educated in California, and now resides again in Texas. His parents being amateur Jitterbug champions, he has been taking dance for 36 years, and now been teaching dance for 28 years. He, after the release of the film “Urban Cowboy” in the fall of 1980, began teaching “country” dance in several nightclubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Within a year, he had graduated this teaching “hobby” into a full time professional career, teaching 7 nights a week in 4 different nightclubs.

Dave has been involved with the UCWDC® since it's beginnings in the late 1980s. He has been an integral part of the development of the rules, scoring system, contest procedures, and the judge training and certification programs. Dave has held a number of important positions in the UCWDC®, serving the council as both Vice President of Rules and Vice President of Judge Certification, in addition to being the Contest Coordinator for the World Championships© for each of the 17 years it has been held.

Dave is proud to have choreographed for and coached many Grand Champion and World Champion dancers. He continues provide coaching and choreography for newcomer to advanced social and competitive country dancers across the United States, west coast to east coast, as well as Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and now Asia. He and also contributes to “country” dance by training, examining and providing continuing education for certified judges. He has also won many awards and accolades over the years, including “Best Country Dance Choreographer”, “Best Male Instructor in Country Dance”, and “Person with the Most Impact in Country Dance”, as well as a number of Star Awards and his induction into the UCWDC® Hall of Fame.

MIKE HALEY - 1996 Inductee Mike Haley grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and began dancing at the age of eleven. He began competing as a ballroom dancer at the age of thirteen, was giving private lessons at sixteen, and opened his first studio when he was eighteen. Mike began competing in the Country World with Patti Miller in 1988. Over the next four years Mike and Patti competed up to twenty-five times each year, and never took less than a third place overall.

Now retired from competition, Mike choreographs routines and provides coaching for competitive dancers. He has been the director of the annual New Mexico Dance Fiesta since 1989, and has directed three of the ® UCWDC World Championships, including the very first one in 1993.

BARRY DURAND - 1997 Inductee Barry is the Director of the Easterns, Swing Fling, and VSO in Washington DC every year. He was the first Masters World Champion in 1993 with former partner Dawn Garrish (Blorstad). He is a several time US Open National Swing Champion and Cabaret Champion, an American Swing Dance Champion and has awed audiences across the world with exhibition partner Lisa West (Austin). Barry also choreographs and teaches Line Dance worldwide and won the Line Dance World Championship title for Country Choreography in 2005. His country and swing team Dance West was undefeated during their several years of competition. Barry has been awarded the US Open Humanitarian Award and was the host of the TNN Country Dance Challenge for four years. He has taught dance for over 25 years in the US and around the world. Barry's home base is his dance studio, Rendezvous, in Rockville, MD. As Barry puts it, “There are no wrong moves.... just variations! Lets keep it fun!”

In the statement concerning competitors who judge: 'or the division that graduates to his division.' will be deleted. This means Masters and Superstars may judge Division I andAdvanced.

Classic Waltz music will be required to be country or sound country (west coast still will not be). This means self selected waltz music will need to be country as well as classic waltz music. This means all self selected music will be required to be country or sound country except west coast including music in solo medleys.

We will request that DJ's make every possible effort to play phrased music for the phrased dances (polka, cha cha, nightclub, waltz), and nightclub is required to be 4/4 time.

·

We are clarifying language allowing couples and line dancers to dance up a level as long as they do not dance overall at the higher level.

Areminder will be added that Two step is required for Couples and Pro-Am when dancing up.

We will add language limiting competitors to dancing two divisions at Worlds.

·

Line Dancers, Pro-Am Competitors and Couples IV & V will be required to wear hats and boots for Worlds©. They will still be encouraged, but not required, at other events.

Costume language will say the yoke is a guideline, and emphasize that each costume must look country and be appropriate to the dance and person. This will be addressed 2009 CEU's.

If Newcomer and Starter Pro-Am is held as a separate session, the Pros must adhere to Newcomer costume rules except they must still wear hats & boots.

Juniors are allowed to dance down one level when they move up in age. We will now allow Advanced Juniors to dance down to Novice (except teen to adult).

Jazz, modern and lyrical will be deleted from the Funky language and added to Novelty. The rules will now state: Superstars, Risingstars and Crown Competitors may use stage dancing (jazz, modern, lyrical, ballet) as one of their 4 required motions in their Solo Medleys.

Couples and Pro-Am Music Tempo targets have been separated in some dances by level. See the Dance Categories section of the rules for details.

Crown Solos will change in 2010 (not 2009). The Solo Medley will become 2-4 minutes with internal requirements of at least 2 dances for Couples or 2 motions for Line Dancers.

For Couples and Line Dance a division will be added: Legends. To be eligible, one Competitor must have been a Master or Superstar nd ® – in couples the 2 partner need only have been a UCWDC competitor. Each competitor must have been retired at least 5 dance seasons and must be 40 or over. The Crown rules will apply: Classic Two Step and Waltz and a 2-4 minute Solo Medley with a two dance requirement for couples. For Line Dance there will just be a solo with internal requirements of at least 2 dances. Line Dance Legends will not be gender specific. All Crown World Champions© may go to Legends, just as retired Masters may. If so, they lose Crown or Masters status and may never return to their former division.

Hello Dancers! We have been paying attention to you and your requests – not an easy task as each person has a different opinion – but we do listen and discuss each suggestion. The UCWDC® is releasing a Syllabus to introduce new dancers to the sport of Country Dancing. It will be filmed here at Worlds© and released soon after. To go along with this, we have added Divisions VI and V for Couples as well as Starter A and B for Pro-Am. These are limited divisions in that only those patterns in the UCWDC® Syllabus will be allowed. This is a way truly new dancers can join our sport. Starter A and Division VI will have 5 patterns for each dance, and Starter B and Division V will be able to do the first 5 patterns plus 5 more. These will be separated into Junior and Adult divisions only (no other age divisions) and placed by dance. No overalls will be offered. Starter B and Division V will be Worlds© divisions. Starter A and Division VI will not be offered at Worlds©.

With the new divisions, the Pro-Am Levels from lowest to highest are: Starter A, Starter B, Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced; Line Dance Levels are: Starter A, Starter B, Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced; Couples Levels are: VI, V, IV, III, II, I.

Divisions VI, V and Starter will have the same rules (including costume rules) as Division IV and Newcomer. The Contest Coordinator will monitor the patterns (be the invigilator) and warn the Couple, Line Dancer, or Pro when a first violation arises.

A 2nd violation for same person or couple will result in graduation. Otherwise Starter Divisions as well as VI and V will not need Graduation. We will not award points champions to starters and div V, VI but we will still track it. Couples V and VI eligibility will be restricted to couples who have either not competed before or one of the partnership may have competed at the IV level or lower. To be eligible for Starter Line Dance and Pro-Am, the competitor may not have competed Newcomer or above.

Graduation will be separate across Dance Types. See Appendix H in the rules for details about crossover between Dance Types.

·

Showcase music use dates will be modified. Currently the last use date is November. In 2009, the last showcase music use date will be no later than September 1st, and earlier showcase music release dates be adjusted accordingly.

·

Showcase music will be available on our website – contingent upon a legal agreement stating that ownership of legal copy is required, and we hope to add a way to buy classic music.

·

The UCWDC® reserves the right to combine or cancel divisions with fewer than 3 entries in two consecutive World Championships©, thus we will eliminate the Couples Showcase II and Couples Showcase Diamond II divisions.

·

We will delete the rule that forces Line Dancers to ascend to Superstars with 12 wins.

·

Division III and Novice will have warm-ups, not music previews, and different music for each heat. Divisions below III in Couples and Novice in Pro-Am will still have previews

·

Troupe Program music will require 50% country (it is 100% country now). Along with this, the costume rules will relax so that if funky or novelty choreography is performed, those costume allowances for those portions of the routine will apply.
