CVs THAT IMPRESS

… have no grammatical errors and are clear and succinct. Should include your full academic record and clear contact details (Jacques Pienaar, Shoprite) … are concise and show attention to detail (Zodwa Mhlanga, Barloworld Equipment)

ACTIVITIES & INVOLVEMENTS Mention your involvement in various clubs and societies and include community involvement, leadership positions held, sporting activities, etc. Give details of your role and accomplishments in these positions.

… stick to the important and relevant information only. Putting that your health is excellent is irrelevant. If you do have health issues - you need to decide whether to disclose this. Also, don’t put your criminal record status (they do checks anyway) (Tracey Ashington, Rand Merchant Bank)

SKILLS This focuses on the skills you learned, from work experience, extra curricular activities, areas of interest and your course of study. Feature the skills that are most relevant to the opportunity you are applying for. Also include your IT and language skills.

REFEREES Try to include at least one academic and one work reference. Ask permission from the referees you intend to use. Give them a copy of your CV if you can. Include their names, job titles, company addresses, contact numbers and email addresses.
