Evidence-Based Practice Programs

EBP E-Learning Series

This engaging e-learning series provides multi-disciplinary frontline care providers a basic introduction to understanding and improving their EBP knowledge. The self-paced online modules offer 10 contact hours to learn EBP fundamentals or reinforce existing knowledge. The content is divided into seven modules that provide an overview of the EBP process, in addition to describing the need for evidence in health care and how EBP can improve quality outcomes and advance clinical practice. Each module is accompanied by an EBP Playbook, which stimulates critical thinking in applying the EBP concepts.

Foundations of EBP Workshop

This three-day workshop (16.75 contact hours) is ideal for frontline care providers interested in learning the fundamentals of EBP and critical appraisal. This workshop engages participants in the process of facilitating an evidence-based approach to critically appraising evidence. Throughout the three days, participants learn the by 7-step EBP process, how to create a PICO(T) question and critically appraise, evaluate and synthesize the evidence related to that question. Expert EBP faculty and experienced EBP mentors guide participants through the experience to ensure that they can apply the concepts.

“I

loved this course. I feel like every time I take an EBP course I learn something new. I love all the ah-ha moments that I experience, and I was surprised that I had more than I expected during this course. The information was presented in a very clear and concise way.”

EBP Immersive Experience

This six-month, hybrid training experience (30.75 contact hours) includes a three-day in-person immersion, three virtual workshops and three small group coaching sessions, which allow participants to take a deep dive into evidence-based practice through implementation of a practice change. Frontline care providers and clinical leaders interested in preparing and implementing an EBP project at their health care organization with additional EBP coaching are ideal participants for this program. This immersive experience empowers health professionals to improve patient care and clinical outcomes and provides proven EBP approaches. Participants are mentored through the preparation and delivery of an EBP project proposal that is further developed and implemented at their respective organization. This program engages participants in an innovative educational experience focused on facilitating an evidence-based approach to implementing a formal practice change in their unit, in addition to assessing the outcomes and impact of interventions in clinical settings. This immersive experience will leverage concepts of evidence synthesis, implementation science, and evaluation of change.

EBP Mentor Training Program

This three-day workshop series (15 contact hours) provides a comprehensive training program to prepare health care professionals to serve as an EBP mentor who can support and guide practice changes at the microsystem level, while serving as an asset to sustain EBP in health care organizations. Participants are required to have completed formal EBP training and experience with implementing a practice change utilizing evidencebased principles in the last five years.

Additionally, mentors are most successful if they have the time and resources to provide adequate EBP support for implementing a practice change in their clinical setting. Throughout this program, participants will learn the various approaches for leading comprehensive implementation of an EBP project and how to be an effective mentor and coach for clinical staff implementing the change.
