Welcome to UCSD! Dear Incoming MS Student, Congratulations on your acceptance to the UC San Diego Master of Science (MS) in Drug Development and Product Management (DDPM) program! On behalf of the program administrators from UC San Diego Extension and the program directors and faculty from UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, we would like to extend our best wishes for a rewarding graduate learning experience.

You were emailed an official notice of acceptance by the UC San Diego Graduate Division along with instructions for completion of additional admissions materials, such as the Intent to Register Form. Once these forms are received and entered in the system by the Registrar’s Office and Graduate Division, you will be enrolled in courses by your Graduate Coordinator, and may then register for the upcoming quarter.

The following pages include information to ensure that you are comfortable with the logistics and details of the program for the duration of your studies. Getting Started About the Degree The Master of Science in Drug Development & Product Management focuses on building the managerial, regulatory, and pharmacoeconomic skills and insight to equip graduates to effectively lead the complex facets of the drug development process from discovery-to-patient.

Communication Between the Student and the Program The majority of the communication between the program administration and the students is conducted by email. Each student will need to set up a UCSD email address and, if needed, students may request email forwarding. Please note that the program and other departments will contact students through their UCSD email account, so please check emails regularly. Please be sure that your contact information is up to date in TritonLink.

TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING TritonLink– Student Portal Upon admission to the program, students receive email from Graduate Division (GD) with instructions on setting up UCSD account information. Note: If you have completed your undergraduate degree at UC San Diego, you already have a TritonLink and email account set up and this process does not apply to you. Students will need access to the TritonLink system for a variety of on-line tools. For the Student PID, check Grad Apply the number starts with an “A.” We recommend to bookmark the TritonLink web address on your computer, http:// www.ucsd.edu/current-students/index.html. This site will also provide grades, academic history, financial aid status, and billing information. Students may also change and update contact information.

Academics Academic Grading Policy Academics You are encouraged to review the UC San Diego Graduate Division website for detailed information on a wide range of academic information and policies pertinent to current students such as definition of good academic standing, UCSD general grading policy and procedures, leave of absence and withdrawal, and grade appeal procedures. This is available at: http:// grad.ucsd.edu/resources/ current.html

Good Academic Standing: MS students will be graded on a letter grading scale and need to maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in order to remain in “Good academic standing.” To learn more go to TritonLink under Academics and click on the “About Grades” section.

Probation Process: Graduate students who do not meet the requirements for Good Academic Standing, are notified of their poor academic standing by a letter from the Dean of the Graduate Division. If it is a student's first instance of academic difficulty and the GPA is above 2.0, the letter serves as a warning and advises of their academic situation, the consequences, and the next steps.

Grading and Reimbursement by Employer: If a student is being reimbursed by his/her employer and needs to provide proof of passing a course, the UC San Diego transcript will reflect the grading option selected. Students are advised to check with their employers ahead of time if a letter grade is required for reimbursement purposes.

Grades and Grade Point Average Students will be graded on a Letter Grade scale for most of the courses in the program, with the exception of the Practice-Based Internship, which will be graded using Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading option. The S/U grade demonstrates that a student has either passed or failed a class. Classes with S (equivalent B-) or U grades count toward the student’s unit requirements for the degree, but do not apply to the GPA. The faculty in the MS program set their own grading criteria for their course, which should be detailed in the course syllabus. This can cover exams, homework assignments, papers, classroom participation, group activities, attendance, etc. If

unclear on the grading policy for a particular course, please clarify with the professor early on in the quarter.

Integrity of scholarship is essential in an academic community. It is each student’s responsibility to become familiar with the University’s policies on academic integrity, in particular plagiarism, which can jeopardize a student’s academic status and may have severe consequences. “For students, this means that all academic work will be done by the individual to whom it is assigned, without unauthorized aid of any

Student Health Insurance Health insurance is a mandatory, nonacademic condition for all active graduate students enrolled at UC San Diego.

All students paying full registration fees to UC San Diego are automatically enrolled in GSHIP and assessed the fee.

Students who are covered by comparable health insurance may elect to apply for a GSHIP Fee Waiver to receive a credit for the mandatory health insurance fee. In order to waive the fee, students need to complete a waiver application one time per each academic year, in the student’s first quarter of the year (typically fall).

Waive Graduate Student Health Insurance

UC SHIP Mobile App Once insurance has been purchased you can use the UC Ship Mobile App, which has replaced the paper ID cards.

UC SHIP member ID cards:  A description of your UC SHIP plan benefits  Anthem Blue Cross – for medical claims and other plan benefits  OptumRx – to manage your prescriptions  Delta Dental – for dental coverage and claim information And much more!

For dental care, you will need your Delta Dental ID card. This is not available on the Student Health app. The Student Health mobile app includes a link to Delta Dental of California's mobile webite: www.deltadentalins.com. The mobile site will provide claim information, insurance card information and the ability to search for a provider once you are registered on the site. 

In order to waive the Graduate Student Health Insurance, an application must be submitted on-line via TritonLink. Once logged in, click on the Health Fee Waiver Tool and submit the form by the posted waiver deadline on the Enrollment and Registration Calendar. Find more details about how to waive the Health Insurance requirements on the Student Health Services website at “How to Waive UC SHIP”.

Students who do not waive by the deadline are automatically enrolled into GSHIP and charged accordingly.

Refer to the Student Health Service (SHS) website at http:// studenthealth.ucsd.edu for more information regarding GSHIP fees, waiver deadlines, online waiver application process, and waiver criteria. You need to be enrolled in at least one course to access the on-line waiver form.

IMPORTANT! It is the student’s responsibility to waive this fee. Be sure to complete the on-line form AND gain confirmation of waiver completion by the posted deadline! The MAS department does not have the authority to complete a student’s waiver nor reverse the charge!!

Health Requirements for Incoming Students Tuberculosis Screening The California Department of Public Health recommends that all incoming college students be assessed for their risk of developing Tuberculosis (TB). Therefore, effective Fall 2010, all incoming UC San Diego students are required to complete a Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire prior to staring classes. This will take you to the Student Health Service Online Services page. From that point, go to Forms in the left column and then scroll down to the Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire

Immunization Requirements The UC is following the recommendations of the California Department of Public Health ( C D P H ) Immunization Branch for Colleges and Universities. The current requirements reflect those in place on March 16, 2016: will be incorporated into the requirements affecting the incoming fall class for that year. Your doctors office will need to complete the UC San Diego Immunization Admission Requirement from. The information will have to be entered in to the student portal. Practice-Based Internship During their last quarter, students will have the opportunity to explore an area of interest pertaining to the program's curriculum. The Practice-Based Internship is flexible by design, allowing students to work with companies of their choosing, or to work with current employers (outside of their daily responsibilities) on a specific project.

Enrollment and Registration e

Enrollment Your Graduate Coordinator will enroll you into your classes each quarter. Please look out for a confirmation form to sign before enrollment.

You will be notified once you have been enrolled into the appropriate courses for the quarter.

Registration Process (Payment) Registration (i.e. paying for your courses) is a separate process from enrolling in your courses (i.e. selecting and signing up for your courses.) After you have enrolled on-line through WebReg, you register for your courses in one of the following ways: 

In Person at the Central Cashier's Office on the campus: The Cashier's office is located in Bldg.

401 in the TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING University Center (on Myers Drive.) Their office hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm. Payment is accepted in cash or check made payable to UC Regents. There is also a drop box for after hours. Unfortunately, Central Cashier does not accept credit card payments.

By Mail to the Central Cashier's Office: You may send payment through the mail to: UCSD, Central Cashier mail code 0009, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093.

Electronic Check: Available through TritonLink with a 75 cents transaction fee. (Please note: If you have discounted fees, the amount owed for payment via E-check may not yet reflect your discounts.)

UC Recharge: If you are paying some or all of your fees on a campus budget number, you must provide the following information to the MAS department: index number, department name, and amount to be charged.

Fees and Financial Aid Below is a table of the fees for the upcoming academic year. You may also want to refer to the Pace of Study sheets which reflect the breakdown of fees by 2-year and 1-year pace of study.

MAS Course Fees (tuition – non-resident/resident): $825.00 per unit

VA Educational Benefits For questions regarding VA benefits contact Lisa Linares. Make sure to enroll into a minimum of 6 units per quarter to qualify.

Merit Scholarship If you have received a merit scholarship by the program contact your Graduate Coordinator after enrollment.

Triton Registration Installment Plan (TRIP)

Students are encouraged to visit the Student Business Services (SBS) web site at http:// www.ucsd.edu/currentstudents/_organizations/ sbs/ for information on paying by installments using the Triton Registration Installment Plan or TRIP. Information on billing statements and requesting refunds is also available on the SBS web site.

Refund Deadlines The refund schedule is based on calendar days starting with UCSD’s first day of instruction (regardless of the date of the actual first class meeting the course.) Refund policy does not apply to UC SHIP, which is not eligible for refund. Students should refer to the Enrollment and Registration Calendar for the official first day of instruction each quarter.

Leave of Absence (LOA) This MS program is designed to be 5-quarters long, and therefore, each quarter has set classes in which students must enroll. Please contact your Graduate Coordinator if you have to take a Leave of Absence. Courses are only

Leave Of Absences (LOA) Graduate students are eligible for a maximum 3 quarters leave of absence with department approval. Your Graduate Coordinator will help you complete forms as necessary, and advise you on your options. A graduate student who is bearing a child, who has primary responsibility for the care of an infant or child under the age of five, and is in good academic standing, may request an additional 3 quarters leave of absence (follow the same procedures below but specify "parenting" or "maternity" on the leave form as the reason).

Additional Resources Academic Resources TritonEd Learning Management System UC San Diego uses an on-line learning management system called TritonEd which offers students additional ways for students to learn, and communicate with their instructor and classmates. Instructors may use TritonEd to post a variety of items, such as course content, PowerPoint presentations, the course syllabus, tests, discussions boards, grades and resources to facilitate lectures. It is also a place for students to check regularly for announcements and reminders regarding their courses. To log in, please visit https:// tritoned.ucsd.edu/.

Textbooks and Class Materials Primarily, Faculty will be using the Harvard Business Review for case studies.

If faculty decide to assign textbooks or other course materials for their class, the materials can be located in the undergraduate and graduate textbook section of the UCSD Bookstore. Information on textbook prices and availability can be found by referring to TritonLink. The UCSD Biomedical Library can also be used for medical materials relevant to your program. They are located on the southern side of the UCSD campus near the School of Medicine.

Graduate Student Advising Student Services & Information ADA Accommodations Students with disabilities engage in all university departments, programs, colleges, divisions and professional schools at UC San Diego.

As a resource for the campus, the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) is responsible for determining eligibility for modifications, adjustments and other accommodations for students and dependents with disabilities. OSD is the point of contact for campus members relating to questions and information about and for students and dependents with disabilities.

Commencement UCSD commencement takes place once a year in June. The UC San Diego Graduate Division requires a GPA of 3.2 for participation in the commencement ceremony. To participate in commencement, graduates and students must register online.

Please check TritonLink for the Commencement Participation Form during your final spring quarter in the program. The graduation regalia can be ordered through UCSD Bookstore: http:// ucsandiegobookstore.com/tgradcentral.aspx.

Counseling and Psychological Services

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapy to registered undergraduate and graduate students.

Services are free of charge to currently enrolled students who have paid their registration fees.

During the summer, students who were enrolled the previous spring quarter and are intending to return in the fall quarter are eligible for services. In keeping with ethical standards of the mental health profession and the law, all services provided by the staff of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) are kept confidential.

Housing Campus Housing: San Diego is known as America’s Finest City, and we are sure you will enjoy living here. UC San Diego provides diverse and affordable housing options just for graduate students. However, the waiting list for on-campus housing is long. Letter Requests If you need a specific letter from your department regarding your current student status, please contact your Graduate Coordinator. Please note that letter requests take about a week, so consult with your advisor early.

Student Health Services The UCSD Student Health Services mission is to facilitate the retention, academic advancement, and graduation of students by maintaining their maximum health and wellness. Student Health Services provides quality primary medical care, including urgent care and support services, such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray.

TritonEd Learning Management System UC San Diego uses an on-line learning management system called TritonEd which offers students additional ways for students to learn and communicate with their instructors and classmates. Instructors may use TritonEd to post a variety of items, such as course content, PowerPoint presentations, the course syllabus, tests, discussions boards, grades, and resources to facilitate lectures. It is also a place for students to check regularly for announcements and reminders regarding their courses.

Veterans Services UCSD Student ID Card All students enrolled for the current school quarter or session are entitled to a UCSD Student ID Card. This is your official university ID card, and you are issued just one active card for free. Any replacement ID cards thereafter will cost $15, unless your old ID card meets one of the conditions in our Wear and Tear Policy.

How to Get Your Card: Take your photo at the UCSD Campus Card Office (map) and receive your Graduate ID Card. Please be sure to bring a second form of identification with you to our office, such as a driver's license or a passport.

The Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) is committed to ensuring that military affiliated students successfully make the transition from the military environment to campus life and are assisted in their progress toward completing their academic degree. The Center also provides opportunities for peer-to-peer support, mentoring, and social networking. The SVRC is the primary campus resource and advocate for military affiliated students.
